Tis the Season

well heres a thread to talk about whatever you want. I shoulda named it chit chat, but named it tis the season , well, because tis the season.

Here.... I'll tell a story bout shopping fun at Walmart

Well of course theres no parking spaces available. None. I drove around for 15 minutes and then fate had mercy on me an one opened up only a mere 1 1/2 miles away. I ran in to Wal-Mart (God I love that place) to get a few last minute items. I walked and walked and walked and couldnt find the things I was looking for. Now I am a professional Wal-Mart patron. I know where everything is. I'm the kind of person that other lost shoppers ask for informationn. I must have that "I know where the scotch tape is" look on my face. So anyway, I asked an employee where something was, and they said "I dont know ma'am, we moved everything around and changed the location of everything." Of course I asked why. He didnt have a clue. So I suggested they offer maps to everyone upon entrance.
Well I finally find my 4 or 5 items and head for the "self check out" lane. I like those little things. I get to scan everything myself and play cahsier for a moment. I put my money in and the machine says "please take change." Which was $68.03. The dang machine was out of money! I had to wait for a CSM to come and assist me, and people were backing up behind me. Complaining. Looking at me as if I'd just stolen all of their presents or beaten their pet. Finally they bring me some money and I'm on my way out. I step in gum, drop my bags, cant find my keys, and then it started to rain. That was my least favorite 2 hours in Walmart.

anyone else have any meaningless stories, comments, thoughts? ;)

Oh -just wondering, do you ever see people standing with signs at shopping centers that say "need help, will do odd jobs, family need food' stuff like that?
I know people can scam you and stuff, but I must be a softy because I can never resist giving them money. I guess I dont want to take the chance that it might be someone who really needs help and not give to them just cause they might be a scammer.

Yeah, I just went to the mall for "kicks" recently (chill with friends, buy a new CD, the usual) and it was nuts. Let alone the fact that the Santa display occupied the entire lobby. That was huge, There was barely room around the edges for two people to walk abreast. Much craziness.

my company is the General Contractor. We sub out most of the work and manage the project ourselves. We are pretty big in the Southeast. We've built a lot of the tall buildings you see in Atlanta, the Atl stadium, we are currently doing the GA Aquarium which is a $200 millioin project. We have divisional offices in AL, TN, FL, GA AND NC. It is very interesting work. Its amazing to see a flat piece of land or a pile or dirt, and watch it become something so big and beautiful. Built by hard working hands.

my company is the General Contractor.

I think the important thing, in this weather, is that it was built by SOMEONE ELSE's hardworking hands? :)

Feels weird saying you 'want' to work for the government, doesn't it?

To be honest, I wouldn't object too strongly to one of those government office jobs... of course, the American government might not want us 'foreigners' working in governmental jobs.... especially not here in the Peechstate.

Everytime I read about one of the new laws that some group are trying to push, or one of the crazy decisions big government is making... it makes me want to go into politics...

Fair enough. So, from an outside perspective, whats the States like? Was considering visiting family out there (if I can ever geth the money!)

Well, the weird thing is... in a lot of ways America really IS like it is in the movies... especially the rural areas.

It takes a while to get used to... it is the familiar (people who look 'English', and speak 'English'... signs that are written in 'English'), but in a slightly alien manner, and a slightly alien context.

I have spent a bit of time in a little less than half of the states... and there are distinct flavour 'differences' to each of them. Some of the things about it are weird... there are about 4 times as many Americans as their are English people, but spread out over a nation that is dozens of times the size of England.

The state of Wyoming would, I think, swallow the UK whole... but only has as many people as, say, Leicestershire.

Manhattan is the spirit twin of London. If you feel London 'in your blood'... you will get the exact same feeling in New York city.

Other than that... well, Georgia girls are (of course) incredibly lovely and sensual... and we are "two nations DIVIDED by a common language"...

That's the 'short version' of "The Complete Englishman's Guide to the USA".

:)

I've got a story.

I asked for this (http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=10030) because, frankly, I'm a giant dork. So my parents went onto Ebay and bought it, $260 including shipping. My mom wired the money yesterday, and today she gets a call from Lego. Apparently the guy my parents bought the set from had been buying them from Lego using a stolen credit card, so Lego stopped giving the guy the sets. So not only are we not getting the Lego set, but my parents are most likely out $260. Merry Christmas to me.

that kind of weather calls for hot chocolate(with x-tra marshmallows), a soft fuzzy blanket and a good cuddling partner

Hey... rats... I have hot chocolate and a fuzzy blanket... but I'm all out of marshmallows...

Damn, so close...

Getting my fix of American culture... well, watching the complete series of "Firefly" on DVD, anyways.

Can't believe Fox (was Fox, I think?) pulled that program - best show since Buffy.

Been having fun... with the frisbees and all? :)

Well lets see.....Sdaeriji was telling us how he used to work in the frisbee industry and how he detests OSHA, UT was gonna show pics of his truck, and then I tried my luck at shopiing again  and then popped back in here to see what was happening.

So, how was the shopping? Less fatal?

My day lacked the excitement of shopping, I'm afraid... but did gain the excitement of "Firefly".

Overall, I think I'm winning.

My computer kind of bit the dust, too... I did TG back, and I've come to see whether the forum is dead for the evening, or if it's going to play nice again...
