I am no fan of racism. That someone could be so narrow-minded as to judge a person based entirely on their backround is ridiculous. Though the majority of people hold beliefs along these lines, the fact that organizations such as the KKK are still in existence is proof enough that the problem has not been solved. Chances are, it's never going to be solved.
But what certainly doesn't help defeat antiquated racist philosophies is the importance placed upon race itself. Of course you should be proud of your heritage, but you shouldn't allow it to define who you are. In order to take power away from those who embrace hate, the importance placed upon race and the differences between us must end. The idea must be taken lightly. Look at swear words; 50 years ago, the word 'fuck' would have had a much more dramatic effect than it would today. I hear it at least once in my morning drives to school alone. And most people would think nothing of this. The word is taken lightly, and it's power is gone.
To take power away from racists, the solution I see lies within humor. Racist or otherwise bigoted jokes are told with proliferation amongst me and my friends. And, no, we're far from all white - blacks, mexicans, asians, I've more friends that would be identified as minorities than I do white. I myself am a mutt, though primarily Irish. I find Irish jokes hilarious.
This may not be your personal opinion, and that's fine. I don't tell these types of jokes to people who I think would be offended by them. I keep it restricted to my friends, people who I know hold similar beliefs to mine. If you believe I am wrong, that's fine. But read no further.
So, to contribute to the weakening of true racists philosophies, I propose a racist joke thread. Keep in mind that I am fully cognizant that any racist jokes I tell are humorous exaggerations, and in no way reflect the truth. That said, I'll start it off with a white joke.
What do you call a white guy who's not gay, a psycho, or a racist?
A liar.
