Should the FCC, MPAA, and ESRB go?

I think so, why should the goverment tell us what we can and can not see on tv and no organations should rate content in what we play and watch. Get rid of them all.

I say ESRB can go **** itself before it tells me that I can't play GTA: SA without my parents buying it for me.

Well, because FCC only has jurisdiction over terrestrial broadcast, they're either going to be obsolete within ten years or they're going to need a new charter.

The MPAA is a voluntary service. Filmakers do not need to submit their work to the MPAA for ratings. History has proven that not submitting your film to the MPAA does not hurt its chances for Academy Awards or Box Office cash.

I think the lot of them should only have the power to rate things, and not be able to fine people or enforce anything.

Although the ESRB was set up by the game companies so that there wouldn't be a bunch of ratings and censorship boards across the country.

"And I'll lead you all in the dance, said he."

P.S. I blame my primary school for permanently etching many hymns into my brain. I've never been a Christian at any point in my life.

It's quite possible that I was only able to recall this hymn because the image of dancing Jesus always made me giggle and I was reprimanded for this several times.

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has seriously got to go. It's funny how bad they are! They don't even play the games they rate, they just watch a short overview movie with the worst content "according to the publisher".

Not only that, but they rated a "Mature" game (Driv3r) and descripted the content as "Violence", but they rated a game with "strong sexual", "blood", and "violence" as "Teen"!

I like how *insert famous pop princesses' name* is pretty much nude on the covers of their CD's, but if I say god damn on my CD i'm getting a warning on it.

Sweet, sweet, hypocrisy.

The FCC should go; it's only a matter of time before a corrupt president uses it to ban the opposition from stating their views on television.

However, the MPAA and the ESRB have to stick around; they're a pain in the butt and tend to rate things incorrectly (they gave Super Smash Bros. Melee a 'T' rating!), but they're the only things keeping the mainstream media from advocating the banning of all video games and all non-Disney movies. They come far too close as it is.

Only 4 Kids and other kid type compinies do that.

ADV, Geneon and Bandai leave theres alone and keep all orgional content in.

At least in their DVDs; since I don't think airing unedited Gundam (a Bandai subsidary) on the Toonami block (or 1 AM in SEED's case) would please soccer moms (but hey, I'm all for pissing them off)

The ESRB is a joke and there is no law prohibiting a minor from buying a M or even AO rated game. It is just to help parents and that is a good thing. Their ratings could be better, but they aren't evil. THat is better than I can say for the other two.

The MPAA has way too much power. They're also stupid. Few theaters will show an unrated or NC-17 rated movie and these movies usualy don't do as well with main stream audiences. The edits required to turn a NC-17 film into a R film often make the questionable scenes even more vulgar.

The FCC is good and its bad. For one, I despise government censorship, but it also makes sure that my TV picks up television stations instead of some random person's cell-phone conversation, and that's good. Recent FCC regulations also require local stations to provide an address where viewers can issue complaints and suggested. This is also good, because I can tell all my local stations that I am disapointed by the lack of bestiality on daytime TV.

All this talk about game cencorship is cute and all, but as long as there are senseless, impressionable younsters and parents who will quite happily shift blame on to the last videogame his son played before committing some crime, chances are the censor will stick around.

Some kids in my town are actually hanging outside stores asking people to buy games for them. Kinda similar to the way theyd hang around asking you to buy ciggarettes for them, only this time its actually worth running away once they give you the money.

The MPAA and the ESRB are essential to the life blood of the Film and Video Game industries.

Some guy makes a film and takes it to the MPAA. This is *completely* voluntary and is not a requirement and his movie will still be shown without an MPAA rating. However, the MPAA says that it's NC-17, so they make some changes and put a PG-13 rated version in the theaters. They make huge bucks on the broad audience, then ... *drum roll* ... 3 weeks later introduce the world to the "Never before seen NC-17 director's cut" version of the film on DVD with "deleted extras", "scenes of naughtiness", and "more boobies than you can count" and the filmmaker gets even more wealthy!

The ESRB works much the same way with "underground", "pirate", and even "director's cut" releases.

The FCC on the other hand is a useless sack of crap that should have been strangled at birth.
