Is it my imagination or are teachers and professors the most influential political group? In Canada all our leaders seem to be former teachers or married to teachers, as well teachers are the largest union in Canada. In the United States the First lady is a teacher, the vice presidents wife is a teacher, and a great deal of bush's cabinet is former teachers. Why are educators so active in politics opposed to other typed of work? Its confuseing because most people I ask resent teachers, but if Im right the teachers are the ones pulling all the strings.

Those that can do; those that can't teach.

That explains it.
But seriously, if teachers really had such a pull...why are teachers such poorly paid?
My mom is a teacher so I know how the pay goes. So one should ask do teachers forget their teacher freinds when they stop being teachers?

If by "teachers" you mean "lawyers" and if by "Canada" you mean "America," then I'm with you all the way.

Those that can do, and those that can't teach is what a conservative says before locking a teachers union out, theres no truth to that at all seeing as if you ask an teacher they will probably have several different jobs thoughout their lives. In Ontario where I live the last two governments to fool around with teachers usffered major defeats, I suspect at the hands of the teachers unions finacial backing, and a pro teacher government is now in place. And pay is indexed so any teacher wanting a raise is a jackass in my oppinion, they make more as inflation rises. Being a teacher would be awsome, getting an 80% of regular pay pension until you die is an alright deal to me. My MP is a former professor, my MPP is married to a teacher, and my PM is married to a teacher. They're in there alright.

this i do not

i also live in ontario

weather or not people in power are teachers really hasnt given them any more rights. Most conscessions made by the Harris government (which got re-ellected by the way) were to end the Strike or prevent another. us students are good bargaining chips

I have no reason to believe that McGuinty would be any better (i saw him speak like 6 years ago and was even unimpressed then) especially after the Oak Ridges Morain fiasco.

bottom line is, that if teachers are to get what they "deserve" taxes need to go up, or beurocracy needs to go down... either are unlikly.

They don't really have that much influence. Why? The vast majority of US college professors are incredibly liberal, yet we all saw how the election turned out.

I wouldn't know, my political views were formed before my teachers went into politics.

this is too dangerous to have that strong group in your countrey.
that why in my state, we limited them by stupit laws, let the violation and vandalism spread in school, make them life harder by minimum vage salaries, and rise tne number of kids in class while the number of learning hours is droping.
that way the teachers power decrease, and only the ones who can't get other job become teachers. and then we fired 15000 of them, and knock down their unions.
the eduction system never become strongest group in Israel.

wait, that already too much sarcasm. the problem is that the program who come from the minister of eduction.
never mind, until the next year they blame the teachers, again.

Oak ridge morane will get is golden hose shoe, but thats a side note. The harris government lost about 20 seats that election. An the liberl party that urged greater respect for government employees esspecally teachers, closed that gap in 2003.

Most people don't know this in Ontario but the Eves government wanted all teachers to attend educational workshops every few years at the cost of the teachers own salarie. The teachers Union said no to this and last feburary there would have been another province wide lockout but since the teachers wouldn't have their licences anymore because they refused to take the insulting re education workshops then the government couldn't even legislate the teachers back to class without backtracking on themselves. McGuinty's wife is a teacher by the way.

In Ontario the teachers pension fund is 350 billion. If all the teachers in Ontario were to be fired, Canada would face a great depression. But the former government was obvioulsy was going to back them into that possition, and them blame the teachers for their own misfortune.

ok, but you see, if teachers had any power, eves would have never been in a position to make said changes

i dont think conservatives are right, i also dont think teachers should be treated poorly, they just dont have the power you are thinking of

If teachers were that powerful the U.S would have more Liberal Legislation/Representation because it seems many many teachers are liberally bias.

teachers like policemen, soldiers and others never get good words from the public.
always, everybody blame them for anything, see them responsablity to all the bad thing, and then some thousand from them has fired, their budget cut down, and every body blame them again. that is unstopable circule.
