Sigh. Sounds like another case of postpartum depression. I really wish people would take it more seriously. I'm honestly surprised this sort of thing doesn't happen more often. What a tragedy for everyone involved :(

Can a woman suffer from post-partum depression after a misscarriage? I realize I may be reading between the lines, but it seems that this may be the case with this woman.

I hesistated at using the term too, since dictionary.com uses it strictly in the case of 'depression that occurs after birth'. But there have been other legal cases where women have used 'post-partum depression brought on by a miscarriage' to justify crimes they've committed, so I think it's the right term.

Biologically, wouldn't everything be the same (for the mother) for a miscarraige as for a regular birth?

I'm not certain... it might depend how late in the pregnancy the miscarriage occurs... this woman's occured at 6 months, I think, which I'd imagine could easily be the same hormonally as if she'd given birth. But then, I'm hardly an expert on the matter...

I didn't read anything that seemed to suggest she's a sociopath... imbalanced, yes, but nothing sociopathic. But then, I haven't looked at her past history, so I might just not have enough information.

I'm certainly not saying that. But if she's going to be incarcerated, she *also* needs psychiatric help. I'm by no means saying she shouldn't face punishment of any sort.

From what I know from speaking to someone I know who prison visits, unless she is insane her biggest punishment will be living with what she has done, being locked up helps concentrate the mind on it. Imagine having done something this awful and you had to try to hide it from yourself and then think what it would be like to live like that all the time.

From my experience from working in a prison, every one there is innocent. Of course that was a male prison (Well not the prison but the people inside were male). It may be different with women.

One guy wasn't guilty because he was drunk when he burned his family to death as they slept.

One guy wasn't guilty because he was found not guilty of kidnapping so how could he be guilty of the rape that occured when the girl was kidnapped. (If that makes no sense then you understand perfectly)

You get the point, either they flat out didn't do anything or there is some sort of legal loophole they believe should result in a not guilty verdict. So therefore they are innocent. Either way they don't feel anything for the victim(s). They only regret being caught.

The placing of blame is an important part of this living with it. Otherwise sane people who have done something terrible need to blame someone/something, anything else rather than confront their own responsibility. They don't so much live with it as fail to I suppose. If they accept the act they have committed they accept how low, how evil a person they became (very hard to do) or they can pretend to everyone that there is an excuse, a reason, or even another culprit. in order to cling to the idea of themselves they used to have.
I know of one guy who is in prison (not for the first time)and it's his dog's fault (if he hadn't taken the dog for a walk he wouldn't have met his old mates and they wouldn't have talked about...etc.) In general for more minor crimes of course all of them say they are innocent. Maybe in part a prison culture thing but also perhaps because if these people were mature and responsible they would be less likely to be there.

I'm absolutely amazed that the baby survived this. The Post called Montgomery a "butcher," but it seems almost surgical.

But anyway, this lady needs to go. Postpartum whatever. You don't pick a pregnant victim and carry out a killing like this in the heat of the moment.

Strange ... normally this sort of thing only goes on in Texas. Anyway, we didn't kill Andrea Yates, I wonder what MO will do ...

Sorry, my bad.
Lets see. Your absolutely crazy if you truely believe that theory. How can you stand yourself. God says this is wrong...no wait...I'm an athiest or an agnostic, I forget which.
Um, Think, Think, Think.
You see criminals are like apples...no not apples...I like apples...Rotten apples, yeah thats the ticket. Criminals are like rotten stinking apples!
Mmmm Apples! I'm hungry.
Damn it! I lost my train of thought.
