Yes he would. Ifidelities to the original books aside, it's still a compelling and wonderful tale, and that's what Tolkien was in it for. He'd love it.

I don't see how the LotR movies come across as "unimaginative". I'm all for reading, but seeing a visual masterpiece in action is a good way to spend an evening, too.

i read the books and saw the movies, and i love them both. yeah, the movie does change some stuff, but it's not too bad, mostly stays true. and the visuals are awesome. and pretty much how i pictured it when i was reading. so i think tolkien would like them.
kind of like how JK Rowling works with the Harry Potter movie people. (prisoner of azkaban movie= disappointing. off topic)
