Just wonderin what most people think...

I for one yearn to see the day education is federalized.. as Im entering the governmental sector I may even work for this goal. It is clear (to me atleast) states are unable to adequatly fund edcation on an annual basis and the federal government already provides millions in grants for educational programs.

Uh.. Isn't it already heavily federalized? I mean they can't directly run local schools becasue of the 10th amendment, but the Feds can provide money based on sets of conditions which must be met as in the No Child Left Behind Act.

Yeah, so as long as idiots who will pass crap like that are in office, we definitely shouldn't give them *total* control.

We need to get the federal government out of education and return the responsibility of educating our children to the local school districts. If the feds would quit placing, unfunded mandates on the school districts perhaps there would be more money available for education and less for bureaucracy.

No. The feds should get out of it. So the kids can learn the truth. That God created the world in 6 days. Which is flat by the way. That the Earth is the center of the universe and the sun revolving around it.

If you truly want to work in the government (spending my tax money), then I hope that your general IQ is better than is evidenced by your grammar and spelling.

if education got federalized we might all be forced to learn that abstinence only education crap that teaches nothing about contraception.
among other problems. rich towns/states would be pissed, cuz instead of getting awesome facilities for their students, everyone would get basically the same, and the rich towns would be supporting the less wealthy ones.

to argue extremist view points dosn't seem relevant though, because extreme viewpoints arn't viewpoints held by the masses

By federalizing the education system, you get a set of standards for educational programs.. It would stomp out religious movements to place things like creationism in the classroom in certain states.. It is so clear that the educational systems in the south are far behind those in the north east and west coasts.

States already demonstrate they are unable to adequatly fund their own educational programs.. and you have differing levels of student preformance from state to state primarly because there are no adequate standards for them.

(I would also argue that while abistance only is not a viable option for all grade levels, i think in lower grade levels it can be applied effectivly.. Obviously we shouldn't be trying to pass of absistance only to high school kids, but rather to children in elementary and middle school levels. Children in these grade levels dont have the mental maturity to be engaging in sexual acitivity..a nd by teaching them controception you basically telling them how to stop the down sides of sexual activity. As ive seen statistics are showing upsurges in child sexual acitivity in lower level grades even though with controception we are seeing a decrease in youth pregancy._

the question is, should children be having sex ?

Give the parents choice and let them decide what school is best. Vouchers good for one primary education are the only way to force public schools to be competitive and at the same time reflect their parents and communities standards. Instead of a Texan setting national standards it will be the local communities and their parents.
