Do you even care?

It seems to me that people go around parading statistics of horrible atrocities as if they were nothing, shouting things like, "Look 44 atrocities committed by Country A as opposed to 38 by Country B! Country B is clearly the better nation!"

So let me ask you something: do you actually care about the victims or are you only concerned with stat-whoring to further/strengthen your political causes? (ex. conservatives are evil because 100,000 people died in War A, but only 40,000 died under liberal leader B in War B.. therefore, liberals are better.)

"The death of one is a tragedy; the death of a million is a statistic."

Yeah I absolutely hate people who, when posed with the question. "How do you feel about the Abu-Ghriab (sp) prison atrocities?"

"Well look at what Saddam did to his people! Torturing them! Gassing...

No one cares here.

It is all adolescent angst, self righteous indignation and chain yanking (in no particular order).

Personally I find the self righeous indignation the most irritating.

If you wanted it in order, it would go:

1. Adolescent angst

then

2. Chain Yanking

then

3. Self-righteous indignation

then

4. Kiss and make up

then

5. Exchange of phone numbers

So your saying that the Canadians don;t care about the amount of Americans that're murdered in America, and that they only use it as an excuse to call themselves better people?

Sounds about right.

What I'm saying is people shouting, "ATROCITY! EVIL!" really don't care about the actual victims, just the statistics behind it, so they can say that they're political alignment is morally superior.

Both sides use this tactic.

I care about the victims, no matter who is in power. Just because someone is killed because they're on the other side of some line created by man doesn't make their lives any less significant than someone who is from the side of the line you live on.

A child who dies in Africa is just as upsetting as the soldier who dies in Iraq (to me), no matter who is in power.

But do you really care or do you think you care? It's hard to sympathize without a mental image or personal confrontation sometimes, sad as that may be.

You must cry a lot.

Sounds about right.

Sounds about right to me, including the Euros. To be fair, we do the same.
We bitch about how precious life is overseas while there's people starving on our doorsteps.
Everyone uses other groups as diversions from their own problems.
Canada is FAR from perfect. Same for utopian Europe. Same for us.
