Well sadly they do.

They primarily hit the elderly.

Definitely! When someone gets one of these they should go out of there way to fuck with/back hack the bastards! I got one claiming that my Ebay info needed to be updated. I almost fell for it beacuase it was so slick, but quickly realized something was fishy and contacted Ebay to report the scam. Unfortunately there are a hell of a lot of people who use the Internet that are just too damn easily suckered. Like the people who say "but I read it online, so it must be true. Right?" Christ humanity scares me sometimes!

How would that work? Would they ask for your account number or something?

Yes, they give you a link. You then "verify" your financial information with them so they can "re-activate" your bank account.

I thought of just sending them a bunch of fake crap back, to make them waste their time. (And possibly alert people to what they are doing.)

Curiously enough, they seem to based out of Germany.

I see, I had read something about that stuff.

Hell, they might have gotten me, if I had any money to lose.

Would have pissed 'em off, to get someone to fall for it and still not get any money.

Personally my favourite scams are the ones involving exiled high ranking African polititions/generals who have billions tied up in an African bank, if only someone could give them access to a western account they could get at the money.
