I've been reading through a lot of threads.

"Christians suck."

"Anti-Christians suck."

"Jews suck"

"You're anti-semmetic."

We need to stop this. We have religious differences. {deleted because i'm an idiot}

We should respect each other. Not constantly attack each other.

You may not agree with another religion. Fine. Does not give you the right to attack it.

What are you trying to prove? That your religion is better? That another religion is wrong?

All you're doing is starting comflicts that will never end and everything will end up the same. Sure you found perfect evidence to suit your side. I'm willing to bet that the other side will find just as much evidence.

Can we stop the bashing of each other already? Can we stop the constant attacking? We're all humans right? Can't we look at our similarities rather than our differences?

As long as topics like religion and politics are being brought up some of the people who post about them are going to voice extreme points of views and use some pretty harsh language. Religion and politics, two subjects that start lots of wars. Talk about your favorite movies and take part in the lighter threads on the forum and you won't find many vitrolic posts being made. I can't remember the last time two (real world) nations went to war over whether or not Star Wars or Star Trek was better.

For some reason they see themselves as interlectually supiror because they believe their is no God. They point to the fact that "Theres no evidence" and smugly smile and insult Christianity for its lack of logic wherever they go. Of course what they refuse to admit is that their position has no evidence either. Both Christianity and Atheism require a mesure of faith, as both are being certian about what you cannot prove for certianity. I think Atheists need to get off their high horse and realise they are no better than anyone else.

Conflict, particularly the sort of "conflict" we get involved in here, can be very constructive. Even when we're "yelling" at each other, we still learn things, and better cyber-conflict than realtime-conflict, yes? :)

However, I want to add the caveat *some* atheists. I am an atheist who has no problem accepting that my belief system is as unfounded as any theist's. I never try to force my beliefs down others' throats. Indeed, I'm reluctant to argue religion with Christians, especially, unless they are proseltyising (damnit, why is it I can never spell that word?) for the simple reason that the inconcistencies in standard Christianity are so manifest that arguing them can have a devastating effect. Seriously, when I've not checked myself I've had a very damaging effect on previously devout Christians. Personally I would never try to "convert" a Christian unless they were the odious Jack Chick style fundamentalist. Then I'd probably fail but I'd give it a good go.

Nobody's saying that "problematic" issues cannot be brought up (if they wheren't, things would be boring). However, one can bring them up without being disrespectful. I mean, (for example) not liking George W. Bush is one thing, but calling all of his supporters "doo-doo-heads" crosses the line. You want people to attack the issue, not you.

I still disagree, you good for nothing pimple: Using insults, generalizations, foul language, and crude remarks help lighten the situation... or lead things to violent discourse that leads to locked threads (and in the real world, dead people).

Being a complete asshole to people who disagree with you or just to anyone in particular for no apparent reason is an important thing. It teaches people not to take things too seriously, that knowledge and opinions are mutable, and that simply put, noone will ever agee on anything, civility is overrated, humble opinions are a load of crap, and a harmonious society is a facade.

Atheism is not a belief. It is the lack of belief. We have no definitive belief besides the fact that all beliefs are dubious assertions and that organized religion is the stagnation of the mind.

As an existential nihilist, I wholeheartedly acknowledge and accept the hypocrisy and paradox in that sort of philosophy. Nevertheless, to claim I (or Atheists as a whole) believe in something is to say that black is a color.

Actually agnosticism is the lack of a belief. Atheism is a belief. It is a belief in the same way as you believe black is not a colour.

Agnosticism is impossible because human beings cannot not believe. It goes against the very fundamental nature of our makeup. We can, maybe, withold belief about some things. God is not one, though. It is too all-encompassing a concept. It is that upon which all your other belifs stand and fall.

As for nihilism, well I won't go into it here. I'm a nihilist myself, just a different kind of nihilist. I'm thinking of putting up an outline of my philosophy at some later date, though.

OK, anyways. I'm a christian, a hypocrite, an absolutist, and I like to eat raw steaks. If you actually care about the fact that I am any of those things, then you have serious issues within your own life. I don't care what you believe, unless it happens to coincide with what I believe. If that is the case, then I'll give ya a pat on the shoulder. if you disagree, I'll say "Ok," and go on about my happy little life.
