American girls like British boy's especially?
Any American girl who I've met hasn't simply liked me because of where I'm from. Some of them like me some don't, I really don't think it has much to do with nationality

and yeah, spike was hot in buffy, but he isn't really british, it's a fake accent.

American girls like accents? Well, gee, that would sure help explain why William Hung got so many marriage proposals...

As for what accents we American boys like, two words: Elizabeth...Hurley...

Seriously, though, accents do accentuate more than speech. A potential boyfriend or girlfriend with an exotic accent seems to come with an element of the mysterious, which is attractive to many. The British accent seems to be particularly preferable to a lot of girls; my suspicion is that there is a subconscious extension to rock/movie stars, who tend also to be highly desirable. But then again, that's just my guess.

And while we're on the subject, what do American girls think of Australian accents? Does such an accent, in the mind of most females, connote ruggedness like Crocodile Dundee, or slightly-silly-but-not-yet-annoying like Steve Irwin?

Come to think of it, I'm frankly not sure why on earth I'm asking this; I'm an Asian with an American speech pattern (no Chinese accent, although my Chinese does have a painfully-heavy American accent) whose only remotely decent impression is probably Elmer Fudd. Gee, dat's attwactive...

17-12-2004, 23:53

Yeah, theres a difference of course but its the thought that counts... I mean doing something like that to be sexier to please me would be the thought of it, even if the accent sucked itd still be cool. My fiance does that sometimes in bed but its just to be silly and all that jazz. so, yes, it is sexy as long as she isnt facking it cause she thinks it will make her cool...

He's not the local lout, he's the imported lout!
Actually I think it's hardwired in both sexes to seek people from further away in order that the family tree will occasionally fork.

During WWII the British males said of American soldiers and other military personel, 'they're overpaid, oversexed and over here' British girls went for American men in those days and there were a lot of British women who became 'war-brides' so it's a two way street.

First off, what does a proper British accent classically imply? In my opinion, it seems to imply (to the vast majority of English-speakers) refinement - not necessarily superior intelligence, although that could be a part of it too.

Sorry for the long delay, but I have to run now. I have saved this thread, and will come back to it tomorrow, okay?

I find that I am mysteriously attracted to guys who talk like either Sgt Preston of the Yukon or to guys who talk like Boris Badinoff. Never had any luck with Canadians, I think I might be too hard core for them but I guess Bosnian guys think I'm hot! I have a Bosnian fiance and his lodger is trying to get my phone number. I'm not giving his lodger my phone number of course...

When I was in the States, I found American girls very easy-going.

My accent was enough and I just had to say "I am from Vienna/Austria" :)
That was usually enough to do the trick.

Most were immediately (and stupidly) fascinated.

But then again - girls in Vienna are just like that with American boys.

It might not be the accent as much as the idea of a change in the populace. People are naturally curious about those who do not come from their societal ilk. It's possible that girls just see it as a way to "explore."

Then again, as an American male, I also note the fact that most guys in the U.S. are incompetent, moronic fools who think the perfect way to a girls heart is a simple, "Hey baby." If you want proof, look to American music such as "Baby Got Back."

Any further proof that the majority of American guys are stupid need only take a glance at our White House. I mean look at the President and his Cabinet. I realize that non-Americans are rolling off their seats with laughter that the "most powerful man in the world" almost offed himself with snack food early in his first term.

I guess the problem with non-American girls likin' us "yankees" might not be that we don't have an accent...it might be that we're just too bloody american! I blame Iraq for the downfall of American attractiveness...Clinton made American guys international playboys....damn Bush.

Yes, I love their accents (even when I can't understand them all the time), and their country is far more interesting than mine, and they're generally a lot less annoying than the guys I know here (well, most of the time).

I also buy into the theory that everyone likes the exotic and "the grass is always greener on the other side".

But, from what I can tell, yes, it is the accent. Accents can be quite the turn-on to ladies, guys. If you don't have one, it couldn't hurt to try to learn one to use every now and then.

I don't know why American girls love the British accents. Maybe its the fact that they are less common. Same reason blondes are generally preffered in the UK, where they are less common, and brunettes are generally preffered in Scandinavia, as they are less common. It's biology that you seek out a mate with different genes rather than similar ones to yourself, to gain most benefits for the offspring. Could accents trigger off that part of the brain? Its certainly feasible...

Just to let you know, I'm a guy from Yorkshire, and these are my linguistic preferences:

I can't stand the Queen's English accent, or any of the posh ones. I don't like Scouse (Liverpool), Mancunian, Cockney (Parts of London), Scotish but I love girls with the following accents, in order of preference:

1) Dublin
2) Ulster
3) South-West Ireland
4) Geordie (Newcastle area)
5) Welsh
5) Yorkshire
6) Southern USA
7) Suffolk (UK)

Man, I spend one day stuck in bed with a headache, and look at what great topics I miss...

English accents hypnotise me. I could seriously, and literally, be talked off a cliff if the person doing the talking had the right type of English accent.

Luckily I don't know that many people with English accents who would throw away a perfectly good accent-induced-hypno-slave. Or maybe it's just that there aren't many cliffs near where I live.

The annoying thing is I have some sort of crazy semi-Australian, semi-random accent... can't see that being attractive to many people, let alone the English, who I credit with having actual taste*. I'll just have to rely on my half-Italian, half-Irish/Scottish/Welsh/German/mongrel-ness, I guess.

Anyway, enough ranting from me. I need to go get caffeine to try and kill the returning headache.

While we're on the subject of who likes what, are there no American girls that like Chinese guys? I mean, in the movies, you see Chinese women all over the place to whom American guys are attracted (Zhang Ziyi being but one extremely attractive example), but never vice versa, with the exception of the barely-believable Jackie-Chan-flick relationships with Claire Forlani and the like. As a Chinese guy who often finds American girls attractive, the sentiment seems never to be reciprocated. Then again, maybe I'm just creepy...yeah, that's probably it...

I'm new in this thread, but I thought you guys might want to hear about a little experiment I performed after hearing some of my female friends discussing how "hot" British accents were...

To preface this, I'm a decent looking guy, I'm certainly not ugly, I've got nice hair, a decent face, and, since I'm an actor, a rather nice body if I may say so myself.
Now, I went to college in New York, so this was a great place to perform this. I stood on a street corner in mid Manhattan and asked various female passers-by how to get to a certain location while holding a map in my hand. I stood there for about 2 hours total (I took several breaks and such as it was rather chilly). I spent about 45 minutes using a classical English accent. I spent about 45 minutes using my own North Carolina accent and I spent the rest of the time using a french accent (which was quite easy since I was a drama student and I'm fluent in french). I discovered that, when using a British accent, just about every woman rushed to help me, even those who had less idea about where to go than I appeared to. When using the North Carolina accent, people were generally rather rude and pointed me in a general direction or simply said "I don't know"... and when I used a french accent people were either really mean (the whole anti-French thing), really nice...or asked me out for a cup of coffee (that came from two rather attractive woman, one of which had a rather nice irish accent)...well and then there was the one woman who was delighted to find someone who spoke french and talked to me for about half an hour...

Being a Welsh man i'm a bit irritated that once again we get the piss take. As is usual!! However what people seem to forget is that our accent is not from a version of English, but is more suited to speaking Welsh.... However, i'm used to being the butt of the joke by the saes, so I ignore it. Now I'm not fussed with the London accent, and the southern Irish is awfull. However the one accent that annoys me more than all the others, the Birmingham accent. It is the most grotesque sounding thing on earth.

However, i'm not completely Welsh, one grandfather is home counties English and the other is Northern Irish (Welsh grandmothers) so I can switch accents easily. Also i've had 5 years of acting training so can also switch into a neutral accent like other famous Welsh actors....Anthony Hopkins/Zeta Jones/Richard Burton...that Rhys davies who played Gimli the Dwarf in LOTR (grew up 10 miles from me). Tom Jones does not count!!! :)

Also, I would LOVE to get involved with an American girl....or Canadian, though i'm a bit thing of French-Canadian, they seem different.

I feel like a song...

Well, the East coast girls are hip, I really dig those styles they wear...and the Southern girls, with the way they talk, they knock me out when I'm down there...

Yeah, but...I mean....hey, I'm a white guy attracted to asian girls, so I win :p

I dunno about Cymric Tribes, but I personally remember John Rhys-Davies best for playing Sallah in the Indiana Jones flicks. He was cool.

Speaking of which, what do Australian girls think of good ol' Indy, compared to James Bond, for example?
