I say either Napolean Dynamite, or A Clockwork Orange. I also like the stuff from Lord of the Rings.

I really like Clint Mansell's music for Pi and Requiem for a Dream.

As much as I love A Clockwork Orange, I wouldn't say that the music was its strong point (synthesised classics just don't do it for me).

EDIT: What is the music for Napoleon Dynamite like? I haven't seen it yet

I'm deep into synthesizers. The music for Napolean Dynamite is sorta discoish. It's not that I'm into that type of movie, bu in Napolean, the music fit perfectly.

Yeah, from teasers I've seen I can understand that.

Some excellent music listed here already.

My favorites?

The Exorcist (Oldfield's Tubular Bells)
Antarctica (Vangelis)
An American in Paris (Gershwin)
Fantasia (the first one is the best, imho) -- well, it's a movie about the music, but close enough?

ive always been into more techno-ish music, like synthesizers, and after seeing and hearing Napolean, i fell in love with that music. it's like easy to listen to, not too hardcore, and its fun to listen to. it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :P

I loved "Rhapsody in Blue" in Fantasia II myself...

Antarctica... a great movie few people saw but probably Vangelis' best work

The Mission (academy award nomination for soundtrack in the 1980s, hell of a cast, great story too)

"Singing in the Rain" (the best of all of the Hollywood musicals in my book)
"Sound of Music" (second best)

"Where Eagles Dare"

"Lord of the Rings" (all three movies)

"Titantic" (especially the scene as the people are panicing, running for the rear as the ships floods more and more quickly)

"Aliens" (great stuff)

"Star Trek II" (best of all the Star Treks for music, either generation)

"The Cowboys"

"Patton"

so many movies, so much great music... I could go on (big soundtrack lover here)
The Land of the Enemy

I would say John Williams' "Star Wars" theme is my favorite.

Another that deserves mention is "Conan the Barbarian."
Iffy movie, unless you like plotless gorefests, but excellent score by Basil Poliduf(I know I mispelled that).

kill bill had a few damn fine songs. especially the main one (the one that plays when o-ren is walking down the hall with all her people behind her)

reservoir dogs was alright too. loved the scene where the maniac dances to the steelers wheel song. classic.

anything quentin tarantino did will do nicely, he uses music wonderfully in all his movies.

oh, and how can i forget the song the end from apocalypse now? i loved that movie, and i am a huge doors fan.

Best soundtrack ever: The theme music to "Bullit"

- Everything Christopher Franke did for "Babylon 5"
- The soundtrack to "Starship Troopers" - especially "They will win!" and "Klendathu Drop"
- The Soundtrack to "Blackhawk Down" - especially "Barra Barra!"
- The soundtrack to "Bladerunner"

Aside from staples like Star Wars, Star Trek and Lord of the Rings, which are going to be forever embedded in sonic culture as "music to play when ever someone evil shows up or short people go on a journey", I'd say that basil Poledouris' work for Starship Troopers was pretty awesome. It suited the movie extremely well, and is pretty good for listening to while playing Starcraft. Also notable: Heavy Metal (Score by Elmer Bernstein) and Maurice Jarre's work on Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

If you don't know the song, you don't know anything.

I was going to post that. Nice to see others have the good taste to recognise genius. ;)
In an interview I read of Eli Wallach, aparently ppl still whistle the tune when they see him in the street.
Ennio Morricone was one of the best score writers ever.

I think 'Kill Bill' whistle theme also deserves an honourary mention. One of Ennio's works also appears in the movie, of course.
