You should sue, or something.

At the very least go to administration and burst into tears about they way the teacher abused you on this very touchy subject. Then laugh when he/she is disciplined.

Sounds JUST like a teacher I had in math class

She had a daughter that had ADHD and told my parents I might want to go get checked out

(I mean seriosly she was so way off ... I can sit for hours reading books ... I listen to every word she or any other teacher said ... and now in collage profs) just rediculous ... what I was , was bored with her horrible teaching

Even without that she was the worst teacher highschool had ever seen (we used to have to tell her what day it was ... what lesson we were on ... the correct page ... and correct her answers when she messed them up)

I am sure this is not conveying how horrible of teacher she was

Anyways
Know where you are coming from

oh, the cheek!!!!!
did you then proceed to ask your teacher if they were suffering an early onslaught of senile dementia? oh well it could have been worse, all things considered...
i actually take that last part back... that was really mean of your teacher/professor, go to the students union and complain loudly

Bah she is no expert … go get tested just to prove her wrong

Just don’t let them force-feed you meds unless you REALLY need it

Or don’t go at all … if you are doing alright in school just work hard and ignore her

It's not their place to make diagnoses.

So they are still well out of order.

adhd is when you CANT concentrate, when you CANT keep to a task

its not when you have lots of energy, when you cant be bothered to sit still in a boring class or when you have trouble sitting through extremely boring classes.

if you have no problem reading a long book, if you spend hours finishing things you are really interested in. if the classes in school that you LIKE you have no trouble putting in the work on. you dont have ADHD.

if you DO have it, you would recognize yourself immediately from what i just said and you might consider going to a professional. if you dont have any problem concentrating on stuff you like, DONT GO. there are way too many quacks in the adhd "business" who will diagnose a bored student as having a disease.

ehm... do you get madly hyperactive and stay that way for ages an ages?
do you have a really short attention span and tend to annoy teachers a lot because you can't concentrate on what they're up to for more that 3 minutes?
eh...does eating sugary foods make you hyper like a little mental bunny as in question 1?
you seem relatively normal to me!

The funny thing is everyone has some form of ADD/ADHD it's just a matter of how bad you have it, and if you want pills shoved down your throat to "fix" it. I have a "really bad" case of ADD yet I choose not to pound down aderol on a daily basis. At best if I have something REALLY important I'll buy a few off one of my friends to give me a little concentration boost.

I've noticed a lot of people who are treated for ADD actually have what I like to call "selective ADD." Which basically means they're pretty much normal but when they get into really boring situations they just shut down/stare at random things/walk away. It's really funny, I'll be watching my friend and someone will start talking to him and he'll just completely zone out and wander off.

I think it all stems from evil TV.

but what if i do have it and she was actually right?

If you want to put your mind at ease (and.or prove the teacher wrong, or right as it may be) then get tested. Most schools will offer to test students whos parents and/or teachers show concern.

You very well could have it, but seeing as you're old enough now where you've pretty much made it through school it probably doesn't affect you that much, or if it does, only to a very small degree.

Don't worry about it Tink, I've suspected for years that I have borderline ADHD. Never got tested though, I just try to muscle through it when I'm having trouble with stuff. Although I must admit, it's quite difficult sometimes in colleged. High school was cake. I'm lucky in that I'm naturally fairly smart, so I usually didn't need to study for anything in high school and still got good grades overall. Of course, there were a couple exceptions (like Calculus, and to a lesser degree, Spanish). But I still didn't study for them anyway.

Was the prof joking or serious? If you think she was joking, at least go and talk to her about it before making a fuss. This could just be a case where the prof didn't know you'd be sensitive about the comment.

In any case, why not see a doctor? At least you'll know then and can make your own decision about what, if anything, to do about it.

That is pretty rude. It is really just a cop out diagnosis anyway. I know lots of people believe in it like a religion, but what it really amounts to is a way to explain people who have little impulse control due to a variety of primarily environmental factors, poor parenting being the most likely culpret. It can be readily cured by a few weeks to a couple of months of Neuro-feedback training, but a licensed professional. Of course, many psychologists and psychiatrists would rather keep someone on pills and in therapy indefinitely and prefer to treat is from a disease model. Sad.

I think you got the answer to why this was said there. She hates you.

Teachers can be really dumb, replace them all with robots, I say.

At school in the old days of CSE & O levels I was MADE to sit the CSE even though I had done the O level course because I pissed one off (by being honest) (Passed with a grade 1, O level equiv of C or over).

So dont sweat it honey, they are short term pain in the asses. When you finissh all your exams, you'll end up earning more than them, that will Piss them off on a reunion.

Was it said in jest?
If not, tell him that those who can't do, teach. Because that's very unethical, and he/she should know better.
(I personally hate that old saying as I think teachers are great, but it applies here).

Hmm, is there something wrong with having ADHD, you all seem grossly offended at the fact that a teacher suggested that she may have ADHD.

Why is it such a big deal? A few of my friends have ADHD, they take it in their stride, and they're great fun to drink with.

It was rediculously unprofessional, bordering more on character assault than professional guidance. I'd make a complaint, but not to the admin... to her.
Let her know that she's setting a bad example, and ask her if she would do the same with one of her patients. That would be illegal as it wasn't group therapy.

The problem I've had with dating psychologists and psychiatrists in the past is that they feel compelled to analyze you, no matter how unprofessional it might be. They don't really notice when they're doing it.

I find Psychologists to be arrogant little pricks. They're priests of a new religion.
Whenever they get too big for their own britches, remind them that it's hardly a science at all, and a rather soft one at that.
That usually shuts them up.
