1) Dogs would usually go on your floor, rather than in a litter box.. so... yeah, evil cats.

2) We live in the country, so our cats keep the gopher population down, and as of yet, we haven't had any rodents in the house.

3) Our cats are also extremely useful in keeping the family from killing each other, keeping us from getting depressed, and keeping us entertained. Our cats are endless little balls of amusement. Heck, the latest batch actually softened my dad up. Ever seen a man who loves telling you about how he knocked some idiot at work down with a single punch play gently with a smallish cat?

Our cats make the family -work-. And they're not even all that friendly compared to some.

Only useless in certain households, with certain personalities, I assure you.

Yes, I adore cats. Except when they sleep on my face and I wake up thinking someone's smothering me. Or when they find their squeaky mouse-onna-string at 2 in the morning and both chase it under my bed, and I wake up thinking WWIII has started. Or... oh look, there's a cat gnawing on my hair as we speak... hrm.

I still love 'em though. They suit my personality much better than any dog ever could.

I love cats, especially big ones. Working at a Veterinary clinic that does wildlife rehabilitation is so much fun. We once had a cougar kitten in, and she was the coolest cat I have ever seen. Not just in the way she looked, but her personality was awesome, and there is the whole intimidation factor if anyone threatens you.

I'd be a little nervous at first around a cat that could actually kill you if it got moody and not just want to. But I'm sure it'd pass. :)

I love em, even though I'm allergic to them. (Dogs I'm OK with ... no allergy problems.)

Though my Howie Cat has kidney failure. :( It is so sad to see a cat that will come running to me if I drum roll my tummy and that was once so full of energy waste away. Now Howie has to get saline shots and eat special food, and he spends much more time just chilling out. This means I do as well. He has been like a shadow to me, so I guess it is my turn now.

I'm going to miss the little guy, but I'm hoping with a lot of care and attention that he'll be comfortable and able to hang in there.

We have a 3 year old dog, who requires a ton of attention. The cat is likely ignored and feels bullied (the dog tries to chase him), but he eats too much and I'm worried he'll become diabetic. He is 8 years old now, although he's slowed down alot since we moved.

If you are in the U.S. Iams makes some weght control cat food. If you can't find that, check with your vet. They often have special food for cats (and dogs) with weight problems. It isn't uncommon for an 8 year old cat to become a little puggy, especially if he has been neutered.

Actually my cat doesnt own me, although that's not necessarily how he sees it. Why would I make sure he 'knows who's in charge', since I know, it really doesnt make any difference what the cat perceives. If he's happy to think he owns me, no harm done.

However, I dont believe that there is not more to my cat's affectionate behaviour than that. My cat frankly adores me. Yes he's bossy, but that's actually part of his charm.

My cat adores me, whether or not he also thinks he owns me does not detract from the affection he feels for me.

yes, I had one black fat cat. he is nice, when he don't sit on your sensetive parts.
by the way, you know that reserches prove that cats had no system that tell them when they eat to much?
you could gave them one spoon of cat food and they don't want more food. or you could gave them much food, and then they eat until it was to much and puke.
my cat even eat the things he puke. it really good you don't had to clean after them too much.

We used to have a dog: I was a dog person. As we ave no mice, I see no call for cats...

I didn’t think we had mice either until Whiskers I brought me one she had killed one morning. I told her she was a good cat, praised her for getting the mouse, and disposed of the dead rodent. Two mornings later, while I was sitting in the bathtub she brought me another one. When she dropped it on the floor, I noticed the mouse was still alive. I told her she was a good cat and when she was finished "playing" with the mouse to bring it back. She did.

Moral of the story is; "Only the cat knows if you have mice or not."

Dogs are good too, but I prefer the purr
