From what little I know of women, and it is very little (no matter how long you're around them, it's always very little), they want someone who's at least in control of themselves. Being an asshole doesn't do it -- there are plenty of nice guys out there with girlfriends -- but if you've got looks, motivation, money, and a will (or preferably a good combination of all of them), you may find yourself attached. But I've none of those, and a generally shitty disposition, and I still have a girlfriend. We both must have been desperate... :)

From what little I know of women, and it is very little (no matter how long you're around them, it's always very little), they want someone who's at least in control of themselves. Being an asshole doesn't do it -- there are plenty of nice guys out there with girlfriends -- but if you've got looks, motivation, money, and a will (or preferably a good combination of all of them), you may find yourself attached. But I've none of those, and a generally shitty disposition, and I still have a girlfriend. We both must have been desperate... :)

Yes and no. Nice guys do get the girls, as long as the guys aren't spineless (as you noted). But jerks do get the girls as well; they just don't always keep them. Reminds me a bit of a Verlaines' song ("Lying in State")... In any case, have fun while you're young, because you'll hate yourself later if you don't, and be good -- but not spineless -- to the girls/women you get, or you'll hate yourself later (if you've a conscience). If things aren't working out, it may be time for you to change, and while that mightn't be easy, it's far easier than changing the world.

I don't have a gf, I am sort of glad because I am in the military and will be getting sent overseas soon. A lot of guys that are married and have gf's have a harder time leaving. I figured I'd be going so I never really bothered to get a gf. It would be cool to have some one special but at the same time its good not to have any extra baggage.

I have no idea who you are/where you are at in life/what you think about things/etcetc. Maybe you are that sweet, nice guy that is friendly to strangers, seniors, and children/smiles all the time/is supportive and kind to friends/enjoys doing things for the community/etcetc. who knows?

I just find that guys that tend to use the "Girls don't like nice guys" tend to be guys that are looking for excuses. They tend to be guys that are sitting at home, feeling rejected by the world and looking at women thinking, "Why don't they like me? It's not like I beat women or am overly ugly"

The reality is that a girl won't come to your house to seek you out or she won't jump on your lap on the subway. People have to put themselves out there - hiding behind the "nice guy's finish last" excuse is just that - an excuse.

As a woman that enjoys being forward, I make the effort to seek out nice guys and chat them up. But if I don't think someone is approachable, I don't go for them and that is simply their loss. He's repeatedly complained about not having a girl, but he's totally unwilling to make any sort of effort. True, men shouldn't be expected to initiate everything, but conversely, a person shouldn't expect everyone to come to them. He's made the statement that he doesn't have many redeeming qualities. So why does he expect women to approach him? All his detractions don't necessarily make him unattractive to all women, but combined with his total lack of effort in approaching women does.
