As you may know, they have found a wooly mammoth in an ice block. Should they bring it back using DNA? Why or why not?

Yes. So that my friends and I can wear loincloths and hunt them with spears.

Depends. If it tastes good, or the fur is useful, I say go for it. :)
Otherwise, what's the point in defying natural selection?

Okay, that's a valid reason too. *nod*

Definately yes. I want to eat like a Flintstone. It would be nice if they could clone a Brontosaurus too.

As long as they keep it contained. Introducing it to an ecosystem it did not evolve to be in will either kill it, or act as a particularly damaging invasive.
What they actually found one they can clone?
Yo Link Me! O_O
And should they... yes, simply to see if it would protect a human whose parents tried to kill him..
Let's see if Ice Age is as True as they say it is. -.^

Yes they should. Cause it would be cool.

Why not? Were killing all kinds of species, why not recreate one?

Here's some news, it's old, but it tells about that mammoth for those who haven't heard. (http://www.canoe.com/CNEWS/TechNews/2003/07/15/136722-ap.html)

Because taking an animal that has been dead for millions of years and putting it with us is just a bad idea. It would die out as quickly as it came to be. It would probably wipe out other species as well. There are countless scientific reasons not to. That is just the kind of thinking that got us where we are.

A little more up to date and downplays the notion that what the japanese are doing is even possible. (http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/landofmammoth/dispatches/clonezone.html)

Absolutely they should bring it back!
My national currency is the pound of flesh so if we could breed them, and keep them in captivity, then economically I can see BIG things happening!!!

Er...
Apatasaurus.
Brontosaurs were the result of a misplaced skull or something...

researchers have been taking turns using the giant ice block as a sled to skid across the ground

Don't bring it back.
We barely have any knowledge of how to manipulate our own DNA; doing so to a mammoth (whose DNA structure is really messed up) would only open a genetic pandora's box
Roachsylvania

Yeah, a genetic Pandora's box with LOINCLOTHS and SPEARS in it!

this is reading like a dumb webcomic, maybe 8bit theatre with the spears an loincloth thing
They're talking about extracting sperm from frozen wooly mammoths, then using that to impregnate a modern elephant.
Low-tech cloning.

No, its pointless, besides those redstaters are so ticked off by our policies (cloning, stem-cell) we wouldnt want to get them mad for the next election.
(Even though they are just a bunch of whiners who usually seem to get their way.

They have found several almost perfect mammoths. I say we should consider cloning several of them. But possibly only for zoos. They may not be able to survive today's conditions.
I'd say yes, but only a few, for research. They died off, without much of our influence. There was a reason for that.

Ahh, why the Hell not?
Yes, and I'm serious about this. Breed them and then kill and eat them. That way, no enviormental impact, and we get a new delicious form of food.
Oh, and Roachsylvania, I say yes. Loincloths and spears would be the prefered way hunting them. Afterall, what fun would it be just shooting the poor things.
Didn't you read Jurassic Park???? We'll be killed. :D

NO
the minute you recreate a wooly mammoth it becomes an endangered species and we have to bend over backwards to find it a mate and a proper habitat and spend billions of dollars making sure it doesnt go extinct
