I don't believe they charged for the sodding stamp!

I just got a list of damages from the Uni halls I stayed in last year, in total they went above the £20 room deposit I put down. Now the mildly annoying thing is that I was responsible for none of them, however I don't doubt there was a clause in my contract to say their arses (all the damages I was billed for came under 'collective block resposibility' or 'collective hall responsibility'). There are some mildly amusing ones, like "Cleaning pond of both and other assorted detritus" (I have no fucking idea where the bath from, as far as I know there were only showers) and "Window cracked by people passing."

But the more annoying part of it is the fact they charged for a sodding 2nd class stamp, I realise that it is a none for profit place n all likelyness, but really, I am sure they could scrounge anouth for a few stamps. Maybe I should help them out and pay the remainder in 2nd stamps.

Just needed to get this off my chest

And the moral to this tale is: Live in the hall they're going to knock down anyway. You can treat it like shit and they can't be arsed charging you at the end of it.

Unfortunately they can't be arsed fixing anything that goes wrong through the year either...

I wish I did now. So many wasted opportunities *sigh* :(

They did seem to go to great effort and expense to get the fountain working.

Broke the next say though.

Was it dye or washing powder?

Seriously though, we had a leaking floor in my flat in first year. Ruined two carpets - the original one, and the one they replaced it with (this after them saying it would be stupid to replace the carpet before fixing the leak).

They also replaced the boiler first of all (nowhere near the actual leak), but didn't actually install the new one properly, completely flooding the already-damp carpet.

Neither, broke under its own power. No one had the time to get to Asda and back before it broke.

You had it good, one of my friends in another block had the septic tank leaking into his sink. Which they ignored for half a term (until he threatened legal action). One of the few people I know who could honestly say their room smelled of shit.

My Grandpa's got a great story about someone he knew who owed a penny to the Inland Revenue. They wrote a letter to him. He thought it was pointless, as it would cost more in processing/posting the payment than the single penny it was worth.

Then he got more letters, and more letters, until they sent a final demand threatening court action. So he wrote a cheque and posted it. He never heard about it again.

Yeah, but the city was a building site the whole time I was there. They basically rebuilt half the city centre, finishing it just after I left. I'll see if I remember to let you know what it's like when I go visit friends in the New Year (haven't been back since graduating in 2003).
