People like bashing the Old Testament over these supposed fake stories...

So since our sages decided to explain what the passages meant so people would not take them literally *coughsyouguyscoughs*

In short quote a passage up to Deutronomy... so from Genesis to Deutronomy, tell me the passage, and i will tell you what the sages explain of it. If it needs explaining.

Ask away. :p

Nah ... given a choice between NS General and looking it up in the Talmud, I'll take the Talmud. No offense, but I've already done all that. :)

True not but not everyone has access to a talmud.

But i have access to my Torah right next to me.

Laziness has arrived in the Torah, we no longer have to learn... just see what the old guys said. ;)

Please tell me it doesn't... otherwise i felt as though i wasted my life...

The reference to the serpent (with Eve). Is that truly serpent as in large snake or is there another meaning?

Well it was a snake... but unknown what variety.

But yeah it is was a serpent.

No ... not all of them.

However, this page (clicky (http://www.jewfaq.org/613.htm) ) lists all 613 laws and has various links and such to all sorts of nifty information.

While we all have our favorite scholars (I'm partial to Hillel, myself) it's often best to look into bunches of them. You may have answers I hadn't thought about or fresh, modern perspectives that the ancient scholars hadn't dealt with.

As the Breslov Chassids are fond of saying: Torah is a process until Messiah.

Yup when moshiach comes we will no longer have to memorize the Torah or try and persaude ourselves to do a simple law like keeping Kosher...

Moshiach will brainwash us to do it.

Sorry but i like using those words, i picked it from from a Conspiratist Jew. heh

Hey;
I would just like to say, that I prefer to try and interpret the laws for myself. I would rather read from the texts and study on my own or with non-biased study partners. Although I am not "Officially" a member of any temple, church or other established "place of worship" that we see today. I frequently visit numberous establishments. Keeping Kosher is reletively easy when your heart is in it. Many people find it odd that I keep Kosher, as I am not "Orthidox", but if one were to put a title on me, I would say that I am a "Born again" (Yes I beleive the Messiah has already come...his name was Yashuwah and not Jesus though), BUT....unlike the "Christians" who so easily threw the sacred laws in the trash by twisting a few phrases from Paul, I try my best to keep all of the laws and commandments, and for me that means reading them and understanding them for myself and not relying on MAN to do that for me. Listening to the Wisdom of elders is wise, but learning to think for one's self is wiser. Enjoyed the reading of others.

Laters;
Joseph

K your welcome to try and interpert them yourselves...

But for the lazy people who want answers... Where are you?!

Oh yeah... your lazy.

Fine, Where are all the atheists that usually point out all the death and rape. Your not making this topic fun with your silence. =(

I Find it interesting that the olny cursed animal (As far as I have seen) is the Serpent. Maybe that is why most people have a discust or fear of snakes.

Egyptians revered the snake... that is until Monotheism came around, then they were baaaaaaaaaad.

Plus look at the Orientals they revere serpents still. A Dragon is a form of serpent i believe

Well, most of the people I know dislike Snakes, except for a few adventurous souls who keep them as pets. I can tolerate them (As in for a summer job in High School I worked for a nature center and had to feed them), but I find snakes to be revolting YUK. They steal my eggs from the chicken house, in the summer I must watch my step (For the poison breeds) and they just generally give me a feeling of YUK all over. I guess the only thing they are good for now is keeping the rats down, or pointing out as a reminder of the story of the Snake tempting Eve.

Snakes rule. I don't think anything else has nearly as much effect-per-gram. By the way, I'm an atheist.

Bah... this thread is going nowhere.

Generally i see lots of people bashing religion and making fun of it... and when i give people a chance for us to explain it. They suddenly don't want to know...

Thanks for the answer. Sorry to disappoint regarding a good argument. Better luck next time.

Regarding keeping kosher. My grandson's best friend is the son of a rabbi whose family keeps kosher. It is easy enough to remember the basics when it comes to meals. The children don't mind as that is how they were raised. Interestingly, they don't much mind that no one else in our household follows the rules & we don't mind respecting their ways and providing meals they can enjoy.

Several of the stories are a load of crap, but it is miles above the NT's quality. =P
