Many people are Anti-American for a simple reason. Ever since it became the worlds only superpower, it has (unintentionaly) pushed its culture across the world with either shear ammount of it or via millitary force on occation. People are angry that their cultures are put down and made weak by the "Americisation" of the world.

What she said. I can't generically despise anything, it's always a bit more specific than that. Same pet peeves as posted above.

On a personal level, anti-isms are a problem and a lot these days are centered around the american people and their institutions. This is wrong to be 'anti-american', 'anti-canadian', 'anti-british, and et cetera. When people post or say such subjective things, it shows their level of immaturity.

Like I said in another thread it's always struck me as weird that the terms anti-British, anti-French, anti-German et al are almost exclusively used to refer to outsiders (eg the French are anti-British and the British are anti-French) wheras anti-American is used as much to refer to Americans as non Americans.

I didn't get a reply in the other thread so I'll ask the same question here, can any Americans suggest why this is?
