Belle and Sebastian
If You're Feeling Sinister

Anthony walked to his death because he thought he’d never feel this way again
If he goes back to the house then things would go from bad to worse, what could he do?
He wants to remember things exactly as he left them on that wednesday
And if there is something else beyond, he isn’t scared because
It’s bound to be less boring than today
It’s bound to be less boring than tomorrow

Hilary walked to her death because she couldn’t think of anything to say
Everybody thought that she was boring, so they never listened anyway
Nobody was really saying anything of interest, she fell asleep
She was into s&m and Bible studies
Not everyone’s cup of tea she would admit to me
Her cup of tea, she would admit to no one
Her cup of tea, she would admit to me
Oh but her cup of tea, she would admit to no one

Hilary went to the catholic church because she wanted information
The vicar, or whatever, took her to one side and gave her confirmation
Saint theresa’s calling her, the church up on the hill is looking lovely
But it doesn’t interest, the only things she wants to know is
How and why and when and where to go
How and why and when and where to follow
How and why and when and where to go
How and why and when and where to follow

But if you are feeling sinister
Go off and see a minister
He’ll try in vain to take away the pain of being a hopeless unbeliever

When she got back, her spirituality was thrown into confusion
So she got a special deal on renting
From the man at rediffusion
"look at me! I’m on tv
It makes up for the shortcomings of being poor
Now I’m in a million pieces", picked up for deliberation
By the people listening at home
By the people watching on the telly
By the people listening at home
By the people watching on the telly

But if you are feeling sinister
Go off and see a minister
Chances are you’ll probably feel better
If you stayed and played with yourself

Any song that says you will get more out of masterbation than church rates high on my list

Smiths, I know It's Over:

Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
And as I climb into an empty bed
Oh well. Enough said.
I know it's over - still I cling
I don't know where else I can go
Oh ...
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
See, the sea wants to take me
The knife wants to slit me
Do you think you can help me ?
Sad veiled bride, please be happy
Handsome groom, give her room
Loud, loutish lover, treat her kindly
(Though she needs you
More than she loves you)
And I know it's over - still I cling
I don't know where else I can go
Over and over and over and over
Over and over, la ...
I know it's over
And it never really began
But in my heart it was so real
And you even spoke to me, and said :
"If you're so funny
Then why are you on your own tonight ?
And if you're so clever
Then why are you on your own tonight ?
If you're so very entertaining
Then why are you on your own tonight ?
If you're so very good-looking
Why do you sleep alone tonight ?
I know ...
'Cause tonight is just like any other night
That's why you're on your own tonight
With your triumphs and your charms
While they're in each other's arms..."
It's so easy to laugh
It's so easy to hate
It takes strength to be gentle and kind
Over, over, over, over
It's so easy to laugh
It's so easy to hate
It takes guts to be gentle and kind
Over, over
Love is Natural and Real
But not for you, my love
Not tonight, my love
Love is Natural and Real
But not for such as you and I, my love
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my ...
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can even feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my ...

The cure - just like heaven

'Show me, show me, show me
How you do that trick
The one that makes me scream,' she said
'The one that makes me laugh,' she said
And threw her arms around my neck
'Show me how you do it
And I promise you, I promise that
I'll run away with you
I'll run away with you...'

Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face and kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways
I had to make her glow
'Why are you so far away?' she said
'Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you,
That I'm in love with you?'

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water, you're just like a dream
Just like a dream

Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
I found myself alone
Alone
Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Just like heaven

In Spite of Ourselves
Performed by John Prine and Iris DeMent

She don’t like her eggs all runny
She thinks crossin’ her legs is funny
She looks down her nose at money
She gets it on like the easter bunny
She’s my baby I’m her honey
I’m never gonna let her go

He ain’t got laid in a month of sundays
I caught him once and he was sniffin’ my undies
He ain’t too sharp but he gets things done
Drinks his beer like it’s oxygen
He’s my baby
And I’m his honey
Never gonna let him go

In spite of ourselves
We’ll end up a’sittin’ on a rainbow
Against all odds
Honey, we’re the big door prize
We’re gonna spite our noses
Right off of our faces
There won’t be nothin’ but big old hearts
Dancin’ in our eyes.

She thinks all my jokes are corny
Convict movies make her horny
She likes ketchup on her scrambled eggs
Swears like a sailor when shaves her legs
She takes a lickin’
And keeps on tickin’
I’m never gonna let her go.

He’s got more balls than a big brass monkey
He’s a wacked out werido and a lovebug junkie
Sly as a fox and crazy as a loon
Payday comes and he’s howlin’ at the moon
He’s my baby I don’t mean maybe
Never gonna let him go

In spite of ourselves
We’ll end up a’sittin’ on a rainbow
Against all odds
Honey, we’re the big door prize
We’re gonna spite our noses
Right off of our faces
There won’t be nothin’ but big old hearts
Dancin’ in our eyes.
There won’t be nothin’ but big old hearts
Dancin’ in our eyes.

This is a song from a band in which I play washboard. The original lyrics are in Dutch, but I translated it so you can all enjoy it. Heines is our singer. (any bands that want to cover it: play A - G for every line of the song)

Verse:
Heines is 2 monkeys
Heines is 2 monkeys
Heines is 2 monkeys
Heines is 2 monkeys

Chorus:
Thanks you

All Along The Watchtower by Bob Dylan (he was going to have to appear sometime!)

"There must be some way out of here," said the joker to the thief,
"There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief.
Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth,
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth."

"No reason to get excited," the thief, he kindly spoke,
"There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke.
But you and I, we've been through that, and this is not our fate,
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late."

All along the watchtower, princes kept the view
While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too.

Outside in the distance a wildcat did growl,
Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl.

Franz Ferdinand- Jacqueline

[Verse 1]
Jacqueline was seventeen,
Working on a desk
When Ivor
Peered above a spectacle
Forgot that he had wrecked a girl.
Sometimes these eyes
Forget the face they're peering from
When the face they peer upon
Well, you know
That face as I do.
And how in the return of the gaze
She can return you the face
That you are staring from...

[Chorus]
It's always better on holiday!
So much better on holiday!
That's why we only work when,
We need the money!

[Verse 2]
Gregor was down again,
Said come on, kick me again,
Said i'm so drunk
I don't mind if you kill me.
Come on you gutless,
I'm alive,
I'm alive,
I'm alive...
And how I know it!
But for chips and for freedom,
I could die!

[Repeat Chorus many times]

I can think of heaps. But i'll mention just two.

Supa Scoopa - Kyuss

Don't try to take me away
Like I can't live without you
Today, makin' love tomorrow
Some way, swooping your so fragile
Died today, you disgraced the mortal

Fight me lately, tried to someone
We've been laughing since you've been gone
And I want to know, did you all enjoy the show?
It's so sad to see you go

And you know, you're my home
Alone, always on his own

Hangin' low today, I replace the highway
Love the only way, linking hands the wrong way
So unfair to see you go
It's so sad to see you go
I just thought I'd let you know

And you know, you're my home
Alone, always on his own

---------------------------------

Powerful. That whole album has to be heard to really appreciate it.

----------------------------------

But here's a classic:

Good Times Bad Times - Led Zeppelin

In the days of my youth
I was told what it means to be a man,
Now I've reached the age
I've tried to do all those things the best I can.
No matter how I try,
I find my way into the same old jam.

*Good Times, Bad Times,
You know I had my share;
When my woman left home
For a brown eyed man,
Well, I still don't seem to care.

Seventeen, I fell in love
With a girl as sweet as could be,
Only took a couple of days
Till she was rid of me.
She swore that she would be all mine
And love me till the end,
But when I whispered in her ear
I lost another friend, oooh.

* Chorus

I know what it means to be alone,
I sure do wish I was at home.
I don't care what the neighbors say,
I'm gonna love you each and every day.
You can feel the beat within my heart.
Realize, sweet babe, we ain't ever gonna part.

A Change Is Gonna Come - Sam Cooke

I was born by the river in a little tent
And just like that river I've been running ever since
It's been a long time coming
But I know a change is gonna come, oh yes it will

It's been too hard living, but I'm afraid to die
Cos I don't know what's out there beyond the sky
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change is gonna come, oh yes it will

BRIDGE:

And then I go to see my brother
And I ask him to help me please
And he just winds up knockin' me
Back down on my knees

There were times when I thought I couldn't last for long
But now I think I'm able to carry on
It's been a long, been a long time coming
But I know a change is gonna come, oh yes it will

Poe - Haunted

Ba da pa pa ba da pa pa...
Come here
Pretty please
Can you tell me where I am
You won't you say something
I need to get my bearings
I'm lost
And the shadows keep on changing

And I'm haunted
By the lives that I have loved
And actions I have hated
I'm haunted
By the lives that wove the web
Inside my haunted head

Ba da pa pa ba da pa pa...

Don't cry,
There's always a way
Here in November in this house of leaves
We'll pray
Please, I know it's hard to believe
To see a perfect forest
Through so many splintered trees
You and me
And these shadows keep on changing

And I'm haunted
By the lives that I have loved
And actions I have hated
I'm haunted
By the promises I've made
And others I have broken
I'm haunted
By the lives that wove the web
Inside my haunted head

Hallways... always

I'll always want you
I'll always need you
I'll always love you

And I will always miss you

Ba da pa pa ba da pa pa...

Come here
No I won't say please
One more look at the ghost
Before I'm gonna make it leave
Come here
I've got the pieces here
Time to gather up the splinters
Build a casket for my tears

I'm haunted
(By the lives that I have loved)
I'm haunted
(By the promises I've made)
I'm haunted
By the hallways in this tiny room
The echos there of me and you
The voices that are carrying this tune

Ba da pa pa...

Mary Prankster - The World is Full of Bastards

He said, “Mary is the rarest gem
And she’s the wildest flower.
I’ll make my Mary merrier
With every passing hour.”

So I made a certain sacrifice
As soon as we were through
I said, “Your Mary loves you, lad.”
And he said, “‘Mary’ who?”

You don’t know if an apple’s rotten
’Til you take a bite
You don’t know if there’s breakfast comin’
’Til you spend the night

And I’m sure I’ll kiss my share of frogs
Before my time is done
The world is full of bastards
And I’ve dated every one

Eh, the lad was oh-so-generous
Much more than you would think
He didn’t have a license
But he still drove me to drink

And I had no insecurities
So he gave me some of his
But I didn’t need his sorrow, man
I’m Irish as it is

You don’t know if the beer is bitter
’Til you buy a glass
You don't know if your peace of mind
Is just a piece of ass

And I’m sure I’ll kiss my share of frogs
Before my time is done
The world is full of bastards
And I’ve dated every one

Thunder Road Lyrics

The screen door slams
Mary's dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside
darling you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty, but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me

You can hide `neath your covers
And study your pain
Make crosses from your lovers
Throw roses in the rain
Waste your summer praying in vain
For a savior to rise from these streets
Well now I'm no hero
That's understood
All the redemption I can offer, girl
Is beneath this dirty hood
With a chance to make it good somehow
Hey what else can we do now
Except roll down the window
And let the wind blow back your hair
Well the night's busting open
These two lanes will take us anywhere
We got one last chance to make it real
To trade in these wings on some wheels
Climb in back
Heaven's waiting on down the tracks
Oh oh come take my hand
Riding out tonight to case the promised land
Oh oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road
oh Thunder Road
Lying out there like a killer in the sun
Hey I know it's late we can make it if we run
Oh Thunder Road, sit tight take hold
Thunder Road

Well I got this guitar
And I learned how to make it talk
And my car's out back
If you're ready to take that long walk
>From your front porch to my front seat
The door's open but the ride it ain't free
And I know you're lonely
For words that I ain't spoken
But tonight we'll be free
All the promises'll be broken
There were ghosts in the eyes
Of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
In the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets

They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on
But when you get to the porch they're gone
On the wind, so Mary climb in
It's a town full of losers
And I'm pulling out of here to win

or perhaps this...

And... "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Oh my god! There was this guy,
and he came over and he was like "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Oh my god! i went over to my mom and she'd be like,
"weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Thats so funny. Cause i went home and i said,
"Hey, Dad, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Oh my god! And then there was this guy, and he goes,
"Hey, i gotta knife" and i go "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Yo, i went up to a thug gangsta, and he was like,
"Yo, muthafucka! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Yo, i saw R-too-D-too on the street, and he was like,
"weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" "BLEEP!"

Yo, I saw this kid in a wheelchair going over a hill really fast, and he was like,
"weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Yo, I was watching a movie, and this guy, he was like,
"oh, i got popcorn" and i was like "Oh my god! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

When you're a kid and you wanna go "weee!",
but you ain't got drugs yet....
you hold out for your life...
hold on to your little gonads...and strife

Gonads and strife
Gonads and strife
Gonads and strife

Gonads and strife
Gonads and strife
Gonads and strife

Gonads and strife
Gonads and strife
Gonads and strife

Gonads and strife
Gonads and strife
Gonads and strife

Gonads in the lightning
in the lighing
in the rain!
weeeeeeeeeeeee!

Yo, i saw a squirrel run across the street and he didn't get hit by a car,
so he was like, "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

You're my favorite
Of my saviors
You're my favorite
Who knows?

You're my favorite
Of my favors
You're my razor
Oh, no.

-----=====MASTERS OF WAR=====-----

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

Mad Season's River of Deceit. Lyrics by Layne Staley

My pain is self-chosen
At least, so The Prophet says
I could either burn
Or cut off my pride and buy some time
A head full of lies is the weight, tied to my waist
The River of Deceit pulls down, oh oh
The only direction we flow is down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
My pain is self-chosen
At least I believe it to be
I could either drown
Or pull off my skin and swim to shore
Now I can grow a beautiful shell for all to see
The River of Deceit pulls down, yeah
The only direction we flow is down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
The pain is self-chosen, yeah
Our pain is self-chosen

It's easy to resort to personal attacks in your little internet chatroom.

I made no comment about his ability to procure one night stands or by everything I own a thousand times over again. I just think he is dumb as a brick.

I especially like it when he screams "I am a virus!" or moans this classic:

"I'll wait for you,
Like a stone.
I'll wait for you there,
alone."

Utter brilliance.

Sunday morning, praise the dawning
It’s just a restless feeling by my side
Early dawning, sunday morning
It’s just the wasted years so close behind

Watch out, the world’s behind you
There’s always someone around you who will call
It’s nothing at all

Sunday morning and I’m falling
I’ve got a feeling I don’t want to know
Early dawning, sunday morning
It’s all the streets you crossed, not so long ago

Watch out, the world’s behind you
There’s always someone around you who will call
It’s nothing at all

Watch out, the world’s behind you
There’s always someone around you who will call
It’s nothing at all

Sunday morning

The Gathering - Eléanor

underneath the mask you've buried yourself into
it's coal-black
i am tired of the gulping that you do
every day a new face
what if i unscrew
your own identity
wouldn't you guess there's nothing left of you?

the quicksand of life drags us
down into the circle
one day. we might not catch you

i feel sorry for what you try to do
breaking others down. to try and to pursue
your own selfish interests
i am starting to get sick of you

whatever happened ever since you left
you make yourself and me look like fools

U2 - Bullet the Blue Sky

In the howling wind comes a stinging rain
See it driving nails
Into the souls on the tree of pain
From the firefly, a red orange glow
See the face of fear
Running scared in the valley below

[Chorus]
Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue
Bullet the blue

In the locust wind comes a rattle and hum
Jacob wrestled the angel
And the angel was overcome
You plant a demon seed
You raise a flower of fire
See them burning crosses
See the flames higher and higher

[Chorus]

This guy comes up to me
His face red like a rose on a thorn bush
Like all the colors of a royal flush
And he's peeling off those dollar bills
Slapping them down
One hundred, two hundred
And I can see those fighter planes
And I can see those fighter planes
Across the mud huts where the children sleep
Through the alleys of a quiet city street
You take the staircase to the first floor
Turn the key and slowly unlock the door
As a man breathes into a saxophone
And through the walls you hear the city groan
Outside is America
Outside is America

Across the field you see the sky ripped open
See the rain through a gaping wound
Pounding on the women and children
Who run
Into the arms
Of America

---------------------------------------------

Pink Floyd - Fearless

You say the hill's to steep to climb, climbing
you say you'ld like to see me try, climbing
you pick the place and I'll choose the time
and I'll climb the hill in my own way
just wait a while for the right day
and as I rise above the tree-line and the clouds
I look down, hearing the sounds of the things you've said today

Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd, smiling
mercyless the magistrate turns round, frowning
and who's the fool who wears the crown
go down in your own way
and every day is the right day
and as you rise above the fear-lines in his crown
you look down, hearing the sound of the faces in the growd

You never walk alone, you never walk alone
walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
and you never walk alone, you never walk alone

------------------------------------------------------------------

Opeth - Bleak

Beating, heart still beating for the cause
Feeding, soul still feeding from the loss
Aching, limbs are aching from the rush
Fading, you are fading from my sight

Break of morning, coldness lingers on
Shroud me into nightmares of the sun

Moving, I am moving closer to your side
Luring, you are luring me into the night
Crying, who is crying for you here
Dying, I am dying fast inside your tears

Plunging towards bereavement faster yet
Clearing thoughts, my mind is set

[Chorus]
Devious movements in your eyes
Moved me from relief
Breath comes out white clouds with your lies
And filters through me
You're close to the final word
You're staring right past me in dismay
A liquid seeps from your chest
And drains me away
Mist ripples round your thin white neck
And draws me a line
Cold fingers mark this dying wreck
This moment is mine

Help me, cure you
Atone for all you've done
Help me, leave you
As all the days are gone

[Chorus ]

Night fall again
Taking what's left of me
Slight twist, shivering corpse
Ornated with water, fills the cracks
Clasped in my lims by tradition
This is all you need

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The Smiths - How Soon Is Now

I am the son
And the heir
Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
Of nothing in particular

[Chorus]
You shut your mouth
How can you say
I go about things the wrong way ?
I am Human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does

I am the son
And the heir
Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
Oh, of nothing in particular

[Chorus]

There's a club, if you'd like to go
You could meet somebody who really loves you
So you go, and you stand on your own
And you leave on your own
And you go home, and you cry
And you want to die

When you say it's gonna happen "now"
Well, when exactly do you mean ?
See I've already waited too long
And all my hope is gone

[Chorus]

Heh, this song is awesome.

Insect Nation - Bill Bailey

We must stop the destruction of the planet,
We need trees, not fac-trees.
Otherwise the creatures of this earth will take back what is rightfully theirs.
You know of whom I speak.
They are listening. They have ears.
Some of them have ears on their knees.

They will rise up, and reclaim this world.
They will take us and they'll make us,
human slaves, in an insect nation!
Arr-arrrr-arruuaarrrr!
Human slaves, in an insect nation!
Arr-arrrr-arruuaarrrr!
Human slaves, in an insect nation!
Arr-arrrr-arruuaarrrr!
Human slaves, in an insect nation.

The locus squats upon the leaf.
He's just biding his time.
The human world that he surveys,
he thinks one day all this will be mi-ee-i-ee-ine...

The spiders, are not insects,
but in a war they will side with the insects.
Traitors, traitors, spider traitors,
they'll betray us, and they'll make us...
human slaves, in an insect nation!
Arr-arrrr-arruuaarrrr!
Human slaves, in an insect nation!
Narr-arrrr-arruuaarrrr!
Human slaves, in an insect nation!
Arr-arrrr-arruuaarrrr!
Human slaves, in an insect nation...

Where did we all go wrong?
The insects used to be our brothers.
Along came pesticide,
and on that day our friendship died.
And pouring boiling water down ants' nests,
couldn't have helped.

We have betrayed the trust,
of the bee and the locust.
Out there are some angry bugs.
Too many salted slugs.
When will the madness end?

We can find, if we look inside,
a different world we thought we'd lost.
But if we look we're sure to find it,
in the place we thought it was.
It must be here, it's here somewhere,
I only put it down just now.
A kind of world that's not unkind,
but if we look we're sure to find it
There it is... no that's not it,
just behind it, next one down.
Keep going, behind the pringles.
Next one down... shelf, next shelf down,
that's it.

Then I know that I'll be free,
Cos I'll have found the insect in me.
The insect in me!

What about the worms?
They're eyeing up your car, yeah.
How can a worm drive a car you say?
Two on the pedals, two on the wheel,
one on the A to Z.
It could happen!

What about the crabs? Forgot about them.
Sideways..... quislings!

They will take us and they'll make us...
human slaves, in an insect nation!
Arr-arrrr-arruuaarrrr!
Human slaves, in an insect nation!
Arr-arrrr-arruuaarrrr!
Human slaves, in an insect nation!
Arr-arrrr-arruuaarrrr!
Human slaves, in an insect na...aaa...aaaa...tion...

This is just an excerpt from Aesop Rock's No Regrets:

"'Look, I've never had a dream in my life
Because a dream is what you wanna do, but still haven't pursued
I knew what I wanted and did it till it was done
So i've been the dream that I wanted to be since day one!'"
(I really like that one)

And part of Murs' I Know:

"I know tomorrow's not promised so handle business while you can
I know a friend's not a friend just because he lends a hand
I know a man's not a man, if he has to beat his woman
I know she'll push you to the point where you feel she had it comin'"

I think part of what makes the lyrics for these songs seem so good is that they are rap songs, and by having a positive message they go against the whole genre in general. I dunno....I certainly wouldn't say "best lyrics ever" about them, but they are good, so I put them :)

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but you’re older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Gets better the older you get. And more depressing....

Opeth - Harvest

Stay with me a while
Rise above the vile
Name my final rest
Poured into my chest

Into the orchard I walk peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
Drained by the coldest caress, stalking shadows ahead
Halo of death, all I see is departure
Mourner's lament but it's me who's the martyr

Pledge yourself to me
Never leave me be
Sweat breaks on my brow
Given time ends now

Into the orchard I walk peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
Drained by the coldest caress, stalking shadows ahead
Halo of death, all I see is departure
Mourner's lament but it's me who's the martyr

Spirit painted sin
Embers neath my skin

Veiled in pale embrace
Reached and touched my face

Into the orchard I walk peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
Drained by the coldest caress, stalking shadows ahead
Halo of death, all I see is departure
Mourner's lament but it's me who's the martyr

Gordian Knot - The Dusk is Always Amber

Forgiveness, at times, in itself, is a sin
There's an innocent man who is prayin'
He wants to find peace, so he signs now a lease
On the field where his brother is layin'

"The years have been hard," he says with a smile
"For the angels do not care to listen
You fell on my blade, but my penance was made
So why can I not find redemption?"

The dusk is always amber
And the dawn is Highland whiskey
He cannot be saved, so he sits by the grave
And drinks 'till the bottle runs empty

I recall times when we both were so young
We'd play and battle 'till morning
The emerald fields were too green to be real
And we began to grow old without warning

"Then came the woman dominating our lives
Pawns for her love we became
We had to be giants with pride so defiant
This fighting for blood was our game"

He holds back his tears, the insatiable pain
Like a man in a desert who's stranded
What began as a game without fortune or fame
Became one where a life was demanded

"We ate our last supper and swam in our ale
And fought to the death for our Laurie
We were drunk and in pain, and t'was you who was slain
As my sword carved your gateway to glory"

The sky becomes black, it's starting to rain
And the emerald changes its color
The crimson will stay, and the sun become gray
But the dusk will always be amber

The Smiths - Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want
Good times for a change
See, the luck I've had
Can make a good man
Turn bad

So please please please
Let me, let me, let me
Let me get what I want
This time

Haven't had a dream in a long time
See, the life I've had
Can make a good man bad

So for once in my life
Let me get what I want
Lord knows, it would be the first time
Lord knows, it would be the first time

Devin Townsend - Funeral
Jesus, here lies my brother
Tortured and blown
Stretch for the heavens and go
...I watch him go
Here it comes

Jesus was a poor boy
Jesus was a poor boy
"It's justa spring clean for the May queen"
I'm coming home

And this one's for the life
This one's for the funeral in the rain
And if only for tonight
This one's for the funeral in the rain

The day's gone and the year's gone
And I don't know when I'm coming home
I can't hold on to what I've had
When what I've had
There's nothing left at all...

So this one's for the life
This one's for the funeral in the rain
And if only for tonight
Close your eyes and try to sleep again...

A world away, you turn away
I'm wide awake, and I don't need your home
Tell me why he went, it seems to be
An element to this mystery
It's so cold today, so I get away, and I'm left behind with nothing but words...

Two other excellent songs with beautiful lyrics and a third with lyrics as funny as hell but kind of serious/sad too:

R.E.M.-Losing My Religion

Life is bigger
It’s bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no, I’ve said too much
I set it up

That’s me in the corner
That’s me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don’t know if I can do it
Oh no, I’ve said too much
I haven’t said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

Every whisper
Of every waking hour i’m
Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool, fool
Oh no, I’ve said too much
I set it up
Consider this
Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I’ve said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
That was just a dream

But that was just a dream
Try, cry, why try?
That was just a dream
Just a dream, just a dream
Dream

David Bowie-The Man Who Sold the World

We passed upon the stair, we spoke of was and when
Although I wasn’t there, he said I was his friend
Which came as some surprise I spoke into his eyes
I thought you died alone, a long long time ago

Oh no, not me
I never lost control
You’re face to face
With the man who sold the world

I laughed and shook his hand, and made my way back home
I searched for form and land, for years and years I roamed
I gazed a gazely stare at all the millions here
We must have died along, a long long time ago

Who knows? not me
We never lost control
You’re face to face
With the man who sold the world

Who knows? not me
We never lost control
You’re face to face
With the man who sold the world

Sublime-Date Rape

Let me tell you about a girl I know,
had a drink about a hour ago.
Sitting in a corner by herself, in a bar in downtown Hell.

She heard a noise and she looked through the door.
And saw a man she'd never seen before.
Light skin, light blue eyes, a double-chin and a plastic smile.
Well, her heart raced as he walked through the door
And took an empty seat next to her at the bar.
"My brand new car is parked right outside. How'd ya like to go for a ride?"
And she said."Wait a minute I have to think."
He said, "That's fine. May I please buy you a drink"
One drink turned into 3 or 4 and they left and got into his car
and drove someplace real far.

Now babe the time has come.
How'd ya like to have a little fun?
And she said." If we could only please be on our way, I will not run."

That's when things got out of control.
She didn't want to, he had his way.
She said, "Let's Go"
He said, "No Way!"
Come on babe it's your lucky day.
Shut your mouth, were gonna do it my way.
Come on baby don't be afraid,
if it wasn't for date rape I'd never get laid.

He finished up and he started the car
He turned around and drove back to the bar.
He said."Now baby don't be sad, in my opinion you weren't half-bad."
She picked up a rock.,threw it at the car, hit him in the head, now his got a big scar.
Come on party people won't you listen to me.
Date Rape Stylee.

The next day she went to her drawer, look up her local attorney at law,
went to the phone and filed the police report and then she took the guy's ass to court.
Well, the day he stood in front of the judge he screamed, " She lies that little slut!"
The judge knew that he was full of shit and he gave him 25 years
And now his hearted is filled with tears.

That night in jail it was getting late.
He was butt-raped by a large inmate, and he screamed.
But the guards paid no attention to his cries.

That's when things got out of control.
The moral of the date rape story, it does not pay to be drunk and horny.
But that's the way it had to be.
They locked him up and threw away the key.
Well, I can't take pity on men of his kind,
even though he now takes it in the behind.
Date rape

She didn't want to take it!

Everybody on NS should appreciate the lyrics to So Says I by the Shins:

An address to the golden door
I was strumming on a stone again
Pulling teeth from the pimps of gore when hatched
A tragic opera in my mind...
And it told of a new design
In which every soul is duty bound
To uphold all the statues of boredom therein lies
The fatal flaw of the red age

Because it was nothing like we'd ever dremt
Our lust for life had gone away with the rent we hated
And because it made no money nobody saved no one's life.

So we burned all our uniforms
And let nature take its course again
And the big ones just eat all the little ones
That sent us back to the drawing board.

In our darkest hours
We have all asked for some
Angel to come
Sprinkle his dust all around
But all our crying voices they can't turn it around
And you've had some crazy conversations of your own.

We've got rules and maps and guns in our backs
But we still can't just behave ourselves
Even if to save our own lives so, says I, WE ARE A BRUTAL KIND.

Cuz this is nothing like we'd ever dreamt
Tell Sir Thomas More we've got another failed attempt
Cuz if it makes them money they might just give you life this time.

Precious Things (Tori Amos)

So I ran faster
but it cought me here
yes, my loyalties turned
Like my ankle
in seventh grade
running after Billy
running after the rain

These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break
Their hold over me

He said, "You're really
an ugly girl
but I like the way you play"
And I died.
But I thanked him
Can you believe that?
Sick, sick holding on to his picture
Dressing up every day

I wanna smash the faces
of those beautiful boys
Those Christian boys
So you can make me cum
That doesn't make you Jesus!

These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break
Their hold over me

I remember, yes, in my
peach party dress
no one dared
no one cared to tell me
where the pretty girls are
with their Nine Inch Nails
and little facist panties
tucked inside the heart
of every nice girl

These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break
Their hold over me

The tree of life my soul hath seen,
Laden with fruit and always green;
The tree of life my soul hath seen,
Laden with fruit and always green;
The trees of nature fruitless be
Compared with Christ the Apple Tree.

His beauty doth all things excel -
By faith I know, but n'er can tell;
His beauty doth all things excel -
By faith I know, but n'er can tell
The glory which I now can see
In Jesus Christ the Apple Tree.

For happiness I long have sought,
And pleasure dearly I have bought;
For happiness I long have sought,
And pleasure dearly I have bought;
I missed of all, but now I see
'Tis found in Christ the Apple Tree.

I'm weary with my former toil -
Here I shall sit, and rest a while;
I'm weary with my former toil -
Here I shall sit and rest a while;
Under the shadow I shall be
Of Jesus Christ the Apple Tree.

This fruit doth make my soul to thrive -
It keeps my dying faith alive;
This fruit doth make my soul to thrive -
It keeps my dying faith alive;
Which makes my soul in haste to be
With Jesus Christ the Apple Tree.

I thought it was time for a slightly different genre...

It may not look much the first time you look at it; it's something you have to work at. And it is definitely one that you have to hear - I would recommend John Rutter's recording. It is sung so high it is impossible to make out the words unless you know them, and it takes a few goes to get used to, but once you have, it is absolutely exquisite - very well worth the effort.

Yeah, I love the Blood Brothers :p

The carnival's glossy ghosts, zebra-painted horses parade,
the cotton candy prostitutes, caramel apple corpses singing,
"Just this way to the neon orange gallows! Tonight we tie noose around the killer's collar! Watch him play his wind pipe organ!"

Just five dollars to see a face explode, to see a man strung up by his throat.
Come one, come all! If you look close enough you'll see death's machinery exposed.

So won't you hold me closer, just one more minute, until the execution's over?
Won't you behead another, c'mon we're waiting, won't you shock and entertain us?

The hangman selling tickets to the sparkling death scene.
Tonight we watch the rope choke a conscience clean. See it up close, see it in person!

Your lips spun like revolving house doors as the hush kisses at our neck nape.
"Any final words for your loving audience?" says the man with the dazzling sapphire cape.

So won't you hold me closer, just one more minute, until the execution's over?
Won't you behead another, c'mon we're waiting, won't you shock and entertain us? Until the end of the world?

Snap, snap, snap goes the neck! "Rah, rah, rah!" the audience! Black, black, black goes his face! The sky spreads like thighs inside lace!

Not sure if anyone already put this...cause I'm not reading over them right now...but...

Slayer
Angel of Death

Auschwitz, the meaning of pain
The why that I want you to die
Slow death, immense decay
Showers that cleanse you of your life
Forced in
Like cattle
You run
Stripped of
Your life's worth
Human mice, for the Angel of Death
Four hundred thousand more to die
Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
Sadistic, surgeon of demise
Sadist of the noblest blood

Destroying, without mercy
To benefit the Aryan race

Surgery, with no anesthesia
Fell the knife pierce you intensely
Inferior, no use to mankind
Strapped down screaming out to die
Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
Infamous butcher,
Angel of Death

Pumped with fluid, inside your brain
Pressure in your skull begins pushing through your eyes
Burning flesh, drips away
Test of heat burns your skin, your mind starts to boil
Frigid cold, cracks your limbs
How long can you last
In this frozen water burial?
Sewn together, joining heads
Just a matter of time
'Til you rip yourselves apart
Millions laid out in their
Crowded tombs
Sickening ways to achieve
The holocaust
Seas of blood, bury life
Smell your death as it burns
Deep inside of you
Abacinate, eyes that bleed
Praying for the end of
Your wide awake nightmare
Wings of pain, reach out for you
His face of death staring down,
Your blood running cold
Injecting cells, dying eyes
Feeding on the screams of
The mutants he's creating
Pathetic harmless victims
Left to die
Rancid Angel of Death
Flying free

Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
Infamous butcher,
Angel of Death

You could say she’s got it all

Doing all the things you do
Ain’t no fairy story

Phantom of the Opera (Michael Crawford)
Music of the Night

Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination
Silently the senses abandon their defences

Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendour
Grasp it, sense it, tremulous and tender
Turn your face away from the garish light of day
Turn your thoughts away from cold unfeeling light
And listen to the music of the night

Close you eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams
Purge your thoughts of the life you new before!
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar
And you'll live as you've never lived before

Softly, deftly, music shall surround you
Feel it, hear it closing in around you
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind
In this darkness which you know you cannot fight
The darkness of the music of the night

Let your mind start a journey through a strange, new world
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before
Let your soul take you where you long to be
Only then can you belong to me

Floating, falling, sweet intoxication
Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation
Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in
To the power of the music that I write
The power of the music of the night

You alone can make my song take flight
Help me make the music of the night

Sam Stone by John Prine

Sam stone came home,
To his wife and family
After serving in the conflict overseas.
And the time that he served,
Had shattered all his nerves,
And left a little shrapnel in his knee.
But the morphine eased the pain,
And the grass grew round his brain,
And gave him all the confidence he lacked,
With a purple heart and a monkey on his back.

There’s a hole in daddy’s arm where all the money goes,
Jesus christ died for nothin’ I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don’t stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.
Mmm....

Sam stone’s welcome home
Didn’t last too long.
He went to work when he’d spent his last dime
And sammy took to stealing
When he got that empty feeling
For a hundred dollar habit without overtime.
And the gold rolled through his veins
Like a thousand railroad trains,
And eased his mind in the hours that he chose,
While the kids ran around wearin’ other peoples’ clothes...

There’s a hole in daddy’s arm where all the money goes,
Jesus christ died for nothin’ I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don’t stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.
Mmm....

Sam stone was alone
When he popped his last balloon
Climbing walls while sitting in a chair
Well, he played his last request
While the room smelled just like death
With an overdose hovering in the air
But life had lost it’s fun
And there was nothing to be done
But trade his house that he bought on the g, i. bill
For a flag draped casket on a local heroes’ hill

There’s a hole in daddy’s arm where all the money goes,
Jesus christ died for nothin’ I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don’t stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.
Mmm....

Speaking of utter brilliance, your original post was fascinating. what was it about? ministers and masturbation? and didn't you end with a comment like "anything that supports masturbation rather than church rates high on my list"?

I think it's obvious who here is 'dumb as a brick.'

Greatest Song ever hands down. Africa by Toto

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in, 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars,
That guide me towards salvation

I stopped an old man on the way
Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say,
Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had, oooh

The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what's right
As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what's deep inside,
Frightened of this thing that I've become

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had, oooh

Hurry boy, she's waiting there for you.

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa,
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa,
I bless the rains down in Africa

Nirvana - You Know You're Right
I will never bother you
I will never promise to
I will never follow you
i will never bother you

Never speak a word again
I will crawl away for good

I will move away from here
You wont be afraid of fear
No thought was put in to this
I always knew it would come to this

Things have never been so swell
I have never failed to feel
Pain
Pain
Pain

You Know you're Right
You Know you're Right
You Know you're Right

I'm so warm and calm inside
I no longer have to hide
Let’s talk about someone else
Steaming soup against her mouth
Nothing really bothers her
She just wants to love herself

I will move away from here
You wont be afraid of fear
No thought was put into this
I always knew to come like this

Things have never been so swell
I have never felt this well
Pain
Pain
Pain
Pain
Pain

You know You're Right
You know You're Right
You know You're Right
You know You're Right

Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah
Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this the fourth, the fifth,
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

You'll say I've took the name in vain,
But I dont even know the name,
But if I did, well, really whats it to you?
There's a blaze of light in every word
It doesnt matter which are heard
the holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasnt much
I couldnt feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didnt come to fool you.
And even though it all went wrong,
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tounge but Hallelujah

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Speaking of utter brilliance, your original post was fascinating. what was it about? ministers and masturbation? and didn't you end with a comment like "anything that supports masturbation rather than church rates high on my list"?

I think it's obvious who here is 'dumb as a brick.'

The song I put in my original post is the story of two people who committed suicide because of a lack of confidence and direction in their life. The first, Anthony has lost confidence that his life is going to be any better in the future, and therefore walks to his death. The second character feels guilty about her own sexual desires and tries to turn to the church for help, but finds that the church cannot actually help her with her guilt since it is the reason for her guilt. So she goes home it complete confusion with absolutely no direction to take in life.

The final line is the best part, as it summarizes the song. With the line:
"Chances are you’ll probably feel better
If you stayed and played with yourself"
the singer states that those with "perversions" in the eyes church, would gain more from continuing on with their lives than reaching out to someone who is going to force you to change yourself.

Chris Cornell ever right lyrics that addressed the inability of the church to reach out to people that have different values?

Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah

Leonard Cohen is another good one.

How about:

Suzanne

Suzanne takes you down to her place newer the river
You can hear the boats go by
You can spend the night beside her
And you know that she’s half crazy
But that’s why you want to be there
And she feeds you tea and oranges
That come all the way from china
And just when you mean to tell her
That you have no love to give her
Then she gets you on her wavelength
And she lets the river answer
That you’ve always been her lover
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that she will trust you
For you’ve touched her perfect body with your mind.

And jesus was a sailor
When he walked upon the water
And he spent a long time watching
From his lonely wooden tower
And when he knew for certain
Only drowning men could see him
He said ’all men will be sailors then
Until the sea shall free them’
But he himself was broken
Long before the sky would open
Forsaken, almost human
He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone
And you want to travel with him
And you want to travel blind
And you think maybe you’ll trust him
For he’s touched your perfect body with his mind.

Now suzanne takes you hand
And she leads you to the river
She is wearing rags and feathers
From salvation army counters
And the sun pours down like honey
On our lady of the harbour
And she shows you where to look
Among the garbage and the flowers
There are heroes in the seaweed
There are children in the morning
They are leaning out for love
And they will lean that way forever
While suzanne holds the mirror
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that she will trust you
For she’s touched your perfect body with her mind.

"I woke the same
as any other day except a voice was in my head
it said sieze the day"

That song has brilliant lyrics!

Soundgarden - The Day I Tried To Live Lyrics

I woke the same as any other day
Except a voice was in my head
It said seize the day, pull the trigger
Drop the blade, and watch the rolling heads

The day I tried to live
I stole a thousand beggar's change
And gave it to the rich

The day I tried to win
I dangled from the power lines
And let the martyrs stretch
Singing

One more time around might do it
One more time around might make it
One more time around might do it
One more time around
The day I tried to live

Words you say never seem
To live up to the ones inside your head
The lives we make never seem
To ever get us anywhere but dead

The day I tried to live
I wallowed in the blood and mud with
All the other pigs

I woke the same as any other day you know
I should have stayed in bed

The day I tried to win
I wallowed in the blood and mud with
All the other pigs

And I learned that I was a liar
Just like you

There are probably songs with more lyrics, but here are a couple short ones:

"Blandest" by Nirvana

You're my favorite
Of my saviors
You're my favorite
Who knows?

You're my favorite
Of my favors
You're my razor
Oh, no.

Hey!

And the situation wasn't quite as intense as I thought.
I need you around to remind me what not to become.

That's a cool song, one of their best IMHO.

I especially like it when he screams "I am a virus!" or moans this classic:

"I'll wait for you,
Like a stone.
I'll wait for you there,
alone."

Utter brilliance.

Ugh, I hate Audioslave as well, but his Soundgarden work was nearly all good.

Skid Row...lol ;)

Ricky was a young boy, He had a heart of stone.
Lived 9 to 5 and worked his fingers to the bone.
Just barely got out of school, came from the edge of town.
Fought like a switchblade so no one could take him down.
He had no money, oooh no good at home.
He walked the streets a soldier and he fought the world alone

Okay...
Heifer whines could be human cries
closer comes the screaming knife
this beautiful creature must die
this beautiful creature must die
a death for no reason
and death for reason is MURDER
and the flesh you so fancifully fry
is not succulent, tasty or nice
it's death for no reason
and death for no reason is MURDER
and the calf that you carve with a smile
is MURDER
and the turkey you festively slice
is MURDER
do you know how animals die?
kitchen aroma aren't very homely
it's not "comforting," "cheery" or kind
it's sizzling blood and the unholy stench
of MURDER
it's not "natural," "normal" or kind
the fleas you so fancifully fry
as you savour the flavour
of MURDER
NO, NO, NO, IT'S MURDER
NO, NO, NO, IT'S MURDER
who hears when animals cry?

America / your head’s too big / because
America / your belly’s too big
and I love you
I just wish you’d stay where you is / in
America / the land of the Free, they said
and of opportunity
in a Just / and a Truthful way
but where the President is never black
or female or gay / and until that day
you’ve got nothing to say to me
to help me believe / in
America / it brought you the hamburger
well America / you know where
you can shove your hamburger
and don’t you wonder
why in Estonia / they say “hey you, /
you big fat pig” / “you fat pig” / “you fat pig”
Steely-blue eyes / with no love in them
scan the world
and a humourless smile
with no warmth within
greets the world
and I / I have got nothing / to offer you
just this heart deep and true
which you say you don’t need
- see with your eyes / touch with your hands
- please
- hear through your ears / know in your soul
- please
for haven’t you me with you now?
and I love you / I love you / I love you
I love you / I love you / I love you

I Hate Myself - To A Husband At War

things are here, and you're over there
and in between: land, sea, everything
i hope you're warm, and i hope you think of me,
and the way things used to be.
yesterday, a telegram said that you had died,
but i knew and i know that it was a lie.
i tried to laugh but went back to my room and cried
i mean our room. i went back to our room and cried
retreat, and come back home.

My turn...
I give to you, the greatest love song ever

Let him roll
Guy Clark

Well, he was wino, tried and true.
Done about everything there is to do.
He worked on freighters, an' he'd worked in bars.
He worked on farms, an' he'd worked on cars.

It was white port that put that look in his eye,
Grown men get when they need to cry.
We sat down on the curb to rest,
And his head just fell down on his chest.

He says: "Every single day it gets,
"Just a little bit harder to handle and yet. . ."
Then he lost the thread and his mind got cluttered,
And the words just rolled off down the gutter.

Well, he was elevator man in a cheap hotel,
In exchange for the rent on a one room cell.
An' he's old: years beyond his time,
No thanks to the world, and the white port wine.

So he said: "Son." He always called me son.
Said: "Life for you has just begun."
An' then he told me the story I'd heard before
How he fell in love with a Dallas whore.

Now, he could cut through the years to the very night,
When it ended in a whore house fight.
And she turned his last proposal down,
In favor of being a girl about town.

Now it's been seventeen years, right in line,
He ain't been straight in none of the time.
It's too many days of fightin' the weather,
An' too many nights of not being together.
So he died.

An' when they went through his personal effects,
In among the stubs from the welfare checks,
Was a crumblin' picture of a girl in a door,
An' an address in Dallas, and nothin' more.

An' the welfare people provided the priest,
A couple from the mission down the street,
Sang "Amazing Grace", and no one cried,
'Cept some lady in black, way off to the side.

We all left and she's standing there,
A black veil covering her silver hair.
Ol' One-Eyed John said her name was Alice,
An' she used to be a whore in Dallas.

So let him roar, Lord, let him roll.
I bet he's gone to Dallas, rest his soul.
Just you let him roll, Lord, let him roar
He always said that heaven
Was just a Dallas whore.

Just you let him roar, Lord, let him roll.
I bet he's gone to Dallas, rest his soul.

[QUOTE=BigRockCandyMountain]My turn...
I give to you, the greatest love song ever
QUOTE]

I'll give you the best gay love song ever:

Hand in glove
the sun shines out of our behinds
no, it's not like any other love
this one is different-because it's us

Hand in glove
we can go wherever we please
and everything depends upon
how near you stand to me

And if the people stare
then the people stare
I really don't know and I really don't care

Hand in glove
the Good People laugh
yes, we may be hidden by rags
but we have something they'll never have

So, hand in glove I stake my claim
Cause you're with me again

If they dare swing a fist at your face, man
I'll fight to the last breath
If they dare touch a hair on your head, love
I'll fight to the last breath

The Good Life is out there, somewhere
so stay on my arm, you little charmer

But I know my luck too well
and I'll probably never see you again.

She eyes me like a pisces when I am weak
I’ve been locked inside your heart-shaped box for weeks
I’ve been drawn into your magnet tar pit trap
I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn back

Hey! wait!
I’ve got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hate! Haight!
I’ve got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hey! wait!

Meat-eating orchids forgive no one just yet
Cut myself on angel’s hair and baby’s breath
Broken hymen of your highness I’m left black
Throw down your umbilical noose so I can climb right back

To the center of the earth
Or anywhere God decides
Full of fever pulling forth
We hear our call as all
To the center of the earth
As if written in
DNA is reaching out
To your frequency

I want to live
Don't want to die
I want to live
I want to try
All in prayer
Prayer in all
All are scared
Scared of all

Black rooms are calling
To men in leather coats
White labs are cooking
Up the silver ghost
The glass migrates under
Her translucent skin
And all are spiders
Wonder what we've got us in

All is you
You are all
All with you
You in all
I want to live
I don't want to die
I want to live
I want to try

"So it's all very obtuse, because it's all, like, I don't know. So, like, I started thinking that everything I operate on is based on what I believe God was telling me to do. God could be my intuition or whatever, but I always assume, I always assume that the voice I hear is the voice of God. Then I started thinking, what if I'm insane? So I'm operating on the premise that I'm hearing the voice of God or what I perceive to be God speaking to me or through me, but maybe I'm completely in...so all my...demagoguery in my life about me thinking that my life has importance, my, my...thinking that my life has importance. My--my--my thought of it and the fact that I believe I'm following my intuition which in and of itself may be completely false. So then I started freaking out, thinking--of itself may be completely false. And again this creature that believes he's acting upon heavenly intuition but meanwhile he's totally rampant. And I started thinking maybe this is the cause of all the negativity against--and I started thinking maybe this is the cause of all the negativity against--and I started thinking maybe this is the cause of all the negativity against..."

So meets the final coda of a vinyl storm
One more cherry cola to lift up her dead arms
A dream of soft focus, sunsets filters through the din
We are losing contact as she dials it in
She can hear glass calling, or is it someone that looks like him?
She eyes TV reflection, and nods a knowing look
She says it doesn't matter, she never liked her looks
I have seen a thousand fractures, I have seen everything
'Cause knowing is its own answer, love something in a book
There's not much left to ponder, not much left to cook

As she counted the spiders, as they crawled up inside her
As she counted the spiders, as they crawled up inside her
As she counted the spiders, as they crawled up inside her
As she counted the spiders, as they crawled up inside her
As she counted the spiders, as they crawled up inside her
As she counted the spiders, as they crawled up inside her
As she counted the spiders, as they crawled up inside her

If you haven't heard it... Listen to it. Then you will have heard it.

And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
And you may find yourself in another part of the world
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself-Well...How did I get here?
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.
And you may ask yourself
How do I work this?
And you may ask yourselfWhere is that large automobile?
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful house!
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful wife!
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.

Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...
Water dissolving...and water removing
There is water at the bottom of the ocean
Carry the water at the bottom of the ocean
Remove the water at the bottom of the ocean!
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/in the silent water
Under the rocks and stones/there is water underground.
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.
And you may ask yourself
What is that beautiful house?
And you may ask yourselfWhere does that highway go?
And you may ask yourself
Am I right?...Am I wrong?

There you are as you always were
In bathing light and naked blue
You're a part of me eternal one
By grand design and setting sun

If you wait I will wait
Taste I will taste
If you love I will love
Run I will run
To my last breath

Last night I turned around and thought I saw myself turning
Inside the strangest dream of life unloved and cities burning

Awake in my arms you cry unshamed
Our age of the hours while they still devour all
So take it all, I doubt if we will know it's gone
'Cause we've been here since time began

Begged God awake and make these plans
Wound opens, reveal this broken man
And soon there's notions of blood on his hands

If you wait, I will wait
Taste, I will taste
If you love, I will love
Run, I will run
To my last breath

Last night I turned around and thought I saw myself turning
Last night I turned around and thought I watched the world ending
Inside the crushing down I felt a pang, the tide was turning

Destroyed in the wake
The jealous ingrates
Who'll tear this world down
To spite God above
With his own love
With his own love

If you wait, if you wait
If you wait, I will wait
Taste, I will taste
If you love, I will love
Run, I will run
To my last breath

Valley Winter Song
by Fountains of Wayne

Hey Sweet Annie
Don't take it so bad
You know the summer's coming soon
Though the interstate is choking on the salt and dirty sand
And it seems the sun is hiding
From the moon

Your daddy told you
When you were a girl
The kinds of things that come to those who wait
So give it a rest girl, take a deep breath girl
And meet me at the Bay State
Tonight

Chorus:
The snow is coming down
On our New England town
And it's been falling all day long
What else is new?
What can I do?
I wrote a valley winter song
To play for you

Late December
Can drag a man down
You feel it deep in your gut
Short days and afternoons spent pottering around
In a dark house
With the windows painted shut

Remember New York
Staring outside
As reckless winter made its way
From Staten Island to the Upper West Side
Whiting out our streets
Along the way

Chorus

Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah
Have you heard the k.d. lang version of "Hallelujah"? Such great lyrics coupled with that incredible voice--just chilling.
Then there's this one that k.d. wrote herself:

Nowhere to Stand

As things start to surface
Tears come on down
Scars of childhood
In a small town

Hurt she pushed inward
Starting to show
Now she’ll do some talking
But he’ll never know

Tables have turned now
With a child of her own
But she’s blind to the difference
What’s taught is that’s known

Numbed by reaction
Stripped of the trust
A young heart is broken
Not aware that it’s just

A family tradition
The strength of this land
Where what’s right and wrong
Is the back of a hand
Turns girls into women
A boy to a man
But the rights of the children
Have nowhere to stand

Memories of children
Are written in stone
Some they get buried
Not to be shown
Still they do linger
Deep down inside
Like a seed that’s been planted
And won’t be denied

Glad to see some Aesop Rock on here.

I submit unto thee G. Love and Special Sauce, "When We Meet Again"

Springtime is here, and a wind from the south
Blows strong and warm to clean out your house
The sun has arisen and the lies that were told
Are driven outside with that freezing cold
I can remember a spring just like this
I was 19 years old; now the time's sorely missed
The first year that I left my mother's house
Out to make my way in this world somehow

I can't believe how the times, they have changed
All the dreams that came true still seem so far away
I remember the days sitting on my front porch
With the sun beating down in my neighborhood
I'd sit out all night singing songs to the moon
And try to get some sweet honey back to my bedroom

My friends, they were few, but to me they were true
All we was trying to do was just make it through
Always thought for the future, but we shouldn't have cared
All the best things in life, we shared them right there

So to all those old friends: god be with them
I wish, I wish I could see you again
In the same corner bar where it all started from
Dig your plow so deep now the stars have all gone
So wherever they shine may it be warm and bright
Out to ease my mind on this worried night
It all seemed so simple, and good tidings I send
And I'll never forget that one year that we spent

And I bet no one will read that, much less comment.

Schizoid - Indulgence/Compulsion
why do we subscribe to the hype
just look at ourselves, is this what we're about then?

december 25...
a membership drive by the fundamentalist/consumerist alliance!

it's christmas time... and who fuckin cares?
is it indulgence, or compulsion?

religious economics... imposed on a buying public!
and corporate tactics... eaten up without question
really, just think of the influence and resulting exploitation
now tell me...
what is it!!!!
indulgence, or compulsion!?!

i'll attack what you hold dear
and shit on it every year
you fucking idiots just buy and buy and buy and buy
christmas is just another way to rob you of your money
and we're all smarter than that...
atleast i'd like to think so!

Broken Bones - Decapitated.

It's gruesome but friggin' cool.

Her name was Jane, she lived alone
She had to go out, out to the phone
She had to cross the moor that night
She was all alone, and out of site
She was decapitated (x4)
There was a flash of steel,
And a lot of blood
She could not scream
He had cut her throat
He tore her body, limb from limb
He liked to kill, he loved to sin
She was decapitated (x4)
Her name was Jane, she lived alone
She had to go out, out to the phone
She had to cross the moor that night
She was all alone, and out of site
I saw the girl, the one who’s dead
I saw her walking, without her head
She walked before me, before my eyes
I saw the blood, I heard her cries
She got decapitated
Now I remember, it’s coming clear
I had the axe, she had the fear
She had the body, I had the lust
She didn’t want me, so die she must

Something's In The Bag - Barnes and Barnes

Something's in the bag
Something's in the bag
Something's in the bag

The parking lot
The air was hot
I heard a sound
From the ground
I turned around

Something's in the bag (mommy)

I came up slow
I had to know
A garbled quack
The squirming sack
No turning back

It was alive
It looked right through me
I could feel the veins on my neck
Begin to pulsate and throb
Like a secretary pounding out
A hundred and fifty words per minute
On an IBM electric typewriter

I gasped for breath
I fell to my knees
I was powerless in its presence
How can I describe what I saw?
I can't

Something's in the bag (mommy)
The screeching wheel
Horrendous squeal
I had to see
Could it still be
I looked inside
Softly it cried

Something's in the bag (mommy, mommy)

Yeah.

Any song by The Smiths/Morrissey has amazing lyrics. He's a lyrical genius!

I hope I'm not the only person to think that both the Smiths and Morrisey totally suck. They have the most bland music coupled with [usually] the most self-absorbed and pretentious lyrics ever. Plus Morrisey can't sing for shit.

"Zombie"

Another head hangs lowly,
Child is slowly taken.
And the violence caused such silence,
Who are we mistaken?

But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
In your head, in your head they are fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...

In your head, in your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
In your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, dou, dou, dou, dou, dou...

Another mother's breakin',
Heart is taking over.
When the vi'lence causes silence,
We must be mistaken.

It's the same old theme since nineteen-sixteen.
In your head, in your head they're still fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are dying...

In your head, in your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
In your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, oh, oh,
Oh, oh, oh, oh, hey, oh, ya, ya-a...

Edge of Seventeen Written by Stevie Nicks

(Chorus)
Just like the white winged dove sings a song ...
Sounds like she's singing...
whoo...whoo...whoo
Just like the white winged dove sings a song...
Sounds like she's singing...
ooo...baby...ooo...said ooo

And the days go by like a strand in the wind
In the web that is my own, I begin again
Said to my friend, baby... Nothin' else mattered

He was no more (he was no more)
Than a baby then
Well he... seemed broken hearted...
something within him
But the moment that I first laid...
Eyes...on...him...all alone...
On the edge of...seventeen

Repeat chorus

Well I went today, maybe I will go again tomorrow
And the music there it was hauntingly familiar
And I see you doing what I try to do for me
With the words from a poet and the voice from a choir
And a melody...nothing else mattered

Repeat chorus

The clouds never expect it when it rains
But the sea changes colors,
But the sea does not change
And so with the slow graceful flow of age
I went forth with an age old desire to please
On the edge of seventeen
Oooohhhhhhh

Repeat chorus

Well then suddenly there was no one
Left standing in the hall

Yeah, yeah in a flood of tears that
No one really ever heard fall at all
Oh I went searchin' for an answer...
Up the stairs and down the hall
Not to find an answer, just to hear the call
Of a nightbird singing...
come away...come away... come away...

Repeat chorus

Well I hear you (I hear you) in the morning (the morning)
and I hear you (I hear you) at nightfall (nightfall)
Sometimes to be near you...
Is to be unable...to hear you... my love...
I'm a few years older than you
(I'm a few years older than you) my love

Just like the white winged dove...
sings a song...
Sounds like she's singing...
ooo baby...ooo...said ...(repeat)

Nine Inch Nails - Hurt (lyrics by Trent Reznor)

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that’s real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear my crown of shit
On my liar’s chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stain of time
The feeling disappears
You are someone else
I am still right here

What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

The Johnny Cash Version is cool too

Alice In Chains - Nutshell (lyrics by Layne Staley)

We chase misprinted lies
We face the path of time
And yet I fight
And yet I fight
This battle all alone
No one to cry to
No place to call home

Oooh...oooh...
Oooh...oooh...

My gift of self is raped
My privacy is raked
And yet I find
And yet I find
Repeating in my head
If I can’t be my own
I’d feel better dead

Oooh...oooh...
Oooh...oooh...

The masters: Pulp, Common People

She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge
She studied sculpture at St Martin's college
That's where I....
Caught her eye

She told me that her Dad was loaded
I said "In that case I'll have rum and coca-cola."
She said "Fine,".....
And then in thirty seconds time she said

"I want to live like common people
I want to do whatever common people do
I want to sleep with common people
I want to sleep with common people like you."

Oh what else could I do?
I said "I'll see what I can do."

I took her to a supermarket
I don't know why, but I had to start it somewhere
So it started .... there
I said "Pretend you've got no money."
But she just laughed an said "Oh you're so funny."
I said "Yeah?
Well I can't see anyone else smiling in here

Are you sure you want to live like common people
You want to see whatever common people see
You want to sleep with common people
You want to sleep with common people like me?"

But she didn't ... understand
She just smiled and held my hand

Rent a flat above a shop
Cut your hair and get a job
Smoke some fags and play some pool
Pretend you never went to school
But still you'll never get it right
`cos when you're laid in bed at night
Watching roaches climb the wall
If you called your dad he could stop it all yeah

You'll never live like common people
You'll never do what ever common people do
You'll never fail like common people
You'll never watch your life slide out of view

And then dance, and drink, and screw
Because there's nothing else to do

Sing along with the common people
Sing along and it might just get you through
Laugh along with the common people
Laugh along even though they're laughing at you
And the stupid things that you do
Because you think that poor is cool.

Like a dog lying in a corner
They will bite you and never warn you
Look out.

They'll tear your insides out

`cos everybody hates a tourist
Especially one who thinks it's all such a laugh
Yeah and the chip stain and grease will come out in the bath

You will never understand
How it feels to live your life
With no meaning or control
And with nowhere left to go
You are amazed that they exist
And they burn so bright whilst you can only wonder why.

Rent a flat above a shop
Cut your hair and get a job
Smoke some fags and play some pool
Pretend you never went to school
But still you'll never get it right
`cos when you're laid in bed at night
Watching .... roaches climb the wall
If you called your Dad he could stop it all, Yeah.

Never live like common people
Never do what common people do
Never fail like common people
Never watch your life .... slide out of view

And then dance, and drink, .... and screw
Because there's nothing else to do

I want to live with common people like you.

Birmingham Six by the Pogues

There were six men in Birmingham
In Guildford there's four
That were picked up and tortured
And framed by the law
And the filth got promotion
But they're still doing time
For being Irish in the wrong place
And at the wrong time
In Ireland they'll put you away in the Maze
In England they'll keep you for seven long days
God help you if ever you're caught on these shores
The coppers need someone
And they walk through that door

You'll be counting years
First five, then ten
Growing old in a lonely hell
Round the yard and the stinking cell
From wall to wall, and back again

A curse on the judges, the coppers and screws
Who tortured the innocent, wrongly accused
For the price of promotion
And justice to sell
May the judged by their judges when they rot down in hell

May the whores of the empire lie awake in their beds
And sweat as they count out the sins on their heads
While over in Ireland eight more men lie dead
Kicked down and shot in the back of the head

Master of Puppets - Metallica

End of passion play, crumbling away
I’m your source of self-destruction
Veins that pump with fear, sucking darkest clear
Leading on your deaths construction

[chorus:]
Taste me you will see
More is all you need
You’re dedicated to
How I’m killing you

Come crawling faster
Obey your master
Your life burns faster
Obey your master
Master

Master of puppets I’m pulling your strings
Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can’t see a thing
Just call my name, `cause I’ll hear you scream
Master
Master
Just call my name, `cause I’ll hear you scream
Master
Master
[end chorus]

Needlework the way, never you betray
Life of death becoming clearer
Pain monopoly, ritual misery
Chop your breakfast on a mirror

[chorus]

Master, master, where’s the dreams that I’ve been after?
Master, master, you promised only lies
Laughter, laughter, all I hear and see is laughter
Laughter, laughter, laughing at my cries

Hell is worth all that, natural habitat
Just a rhyme without a reason
Neverending maze, drift on numbered days
Now your life is out of season

[chorus]
[fade out with evil laughter].

Fade to Black - Metallica

Life it seems, will fade away
Drifting further every day
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters no one else
I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free

Things are not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost, this can’t be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel
Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me, but now he’s gone

No one but me can save myself, but it’s too late
Now I can’t think, think why I should even try

Yesterday seems as though it never existed
Death greets me warm, now I will just say good-bye

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

Load up on guns
Bring your friends
It’s fun to lose
And to pretend
She’s overboard
Myself assured
I know I know
A dirty word

Hello (x 16)

With the lights out it’s less dangerous
Here we are now
Entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now
Entertain us
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My libido
Yea

I’m worse at what I do best
And for this gift I feel blessed
Our little group has always been
And always will until the end

Hello (x 16)

With the lights out it’s less dangerous
Here we are now
Entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now
Entertain us
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My libido
Yea

And I forget
Just what it takes
And yet I guess it makes me smile
I found it hard
Its hard to find
Oh well, whatever, nevermind

Hello (x 16)

With the lights out it’s less dangerous
Here we are now
Entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now

Lithium - Nirvana

I’m so happy ’cause today
I’ve found my friends ...
They’re in my head
I’m so ugly, but that’s okay, ’cause so are you ...
We’ve broken our mirrors
Sunday morning is everyday for all I care ...
And I’m not scared
Light my candles, in a daze
’cause I’ve found god
Yeah (x6)

I’m so lonely but that’s okay, I shaved my head ...
And I’m not sad
And just maybe I’m to blame for all I’ve heard ...
But I’m not sure
I’m so excited, I can’t wait to meet you there ...
But I don’t care
I’m so horny, but that’s okay ...
My will is good
Yeah(x6)

(x2)
I like it - I’m not gonna crack
I miss you - I’m not gonna crack
I love you - I’m not gonna crack
I killed you - I’m not gonna crack

I’m so happy ’cause today
I’ve found my friends ...
They’re in my head
I’m so ugly, but that’s okay, ’cause so are you ...
We’ve broken our mirrors
Sunday morning is everyday for all I care ...
And I’m not scared
Light my candles in a daze ...
’cause I’ve found god

The Man Who Sold the World - Nirvana (originally David Bowie)

We passed upon the stair, we spoke of was and when
Although I wasn’t there, he said I was his friend
Which came as some surprise I spoke into his eyes
I thought you died alone, a long long time ago
Oh no, not me
I never lost control
You’re face to face
With the man who sold the world
I laughed and shook his hand, and made my way back home
I searched for form and land, for years and years I roamed
I gazed a gazley stare at all the millions here
We must have died along, a long long time ago
Who knows? not me
We never lost control
You’re face to face
With the man who sold the world

Another Brick in the Wall - Pink Floyd

[Part 1]
Daddy's flown across the ocean
Leaving just a memory
A snapshot in the family album
Daddy, what else did ya leave for me?
Daddy, whatcha leave behind for me?
All in all it was just a brick in the wall
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall

[Part 2]
We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers, leave them kids alone
Hey, Teachers, leave those kids alone

All in all its just another brick in the wall
All in all you're just another brick in the wall

We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers, leave them kids alone
Hey, Teachers, leave those kids alone

All in all you're just another brick in the wall
All in all you're just another brick in the wall
[Guitar]

[Part 3]
I don't need no arms around me
I don't need no drugs to calm me
I have seen the writing on the wall
Don't think I need anything at all
No, don't think I need anything at all
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall
All in all you were all just bricks in the wall

[Goodbye Cruel World]
Goodbye, cruel world
I'm leaving you today
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

Goodbye, all you people
There's nothing you can say
To make me change my mind
Goodbye

i have trouble naming a favorite on an album, so im just going to pick a few that are stuck in my head at the moment

Bury me softly in this womb
I give this part of me for you
Sand rains down and here I sit
Holding rare flowers
In a tomb
In bloom

Down in a hole and I don't know if I can be saved
See my heart I decorate it like a grave
You don't understand who they
Thought I was supposed to be
Look at me now a man
Who won't let himself be

Down in a hole
Feelin' so small
Down in a hole
Losin' my soul
I'd like to fly -
But my wings have been so denied

Down in a hole and they've put all
The stones in their place
I've eaten the sun so my tongue
Has been burned of the taste
I have been guilty
Of kicking myself in the teeth
I will speak no more
Of my feelings beneath

anything aic does is perfect... all their songs, this and frogs especially are best on the unplugged album.

Yeah - I made a promise to love myself but somehow I don't think
that I'm gonna make it
Yeah - Is that me behind the screen?
I see some shapes but I can't see any faces

An ego might not be so bad
It could be something I should have
I can't make my mind up
Help me with this while I grip this
I made a promise to myself but I think I need some help
If you see something that is good in me won't you tell me?
- and maybe I'd be something you could stand

Yeah - I made a promise to love myself
I think this could be good for you as well me
Yeah - I know I'm not much fun
The joke I have become doesn't make you laugh

Here comes the doubt again

scott lucas of local h is a little known genious - hes even installed a bass pickup in his guitar so basically he plays guitar, bass and hes the singer/songwriter.

outside there's a box car waiting
outside the family stew
out by the fire breathing
outside we wait 'til face turns blue
i know the nervous walking
i know the dirty beard hangs
out by the box car waiting
take me away to nowhere plains
there is a wait so long
here comes your man

big shake on the box car moving
big shake to the land that's falling down
is a wind makes a palm stop blowing
a big, big stone fall and break my crown
there is a wait so long
you'll never wait so long
here comes your man
there is a wait so long
you'll never wait so long
here comes your man

on second glance, the pixies song is actually about dropping the bomb on nagasaki(sp).. boxscar was the name of the plane that dropped it, fat man was the bomb (if i remember correctly, i might be alittle mixed up)

I am my own parasite
I don't need a host to live
We feed off of each other
We can share our endorphns

Doll steak
Test meat

I won my own pet virus
I get to pet and name her
Her milk is my shit
My shit is her milk

Doll steak
Test meat

Look on the bright side is suicide
Lost eyesight I'm on your side
Angel left wing, right wing, broken wing
Lack of iron and/or sleeping
Protector of the kennel
Ecto-plasma
Ecto-skeletal
Obituary birthday
Your scent is still here in my place of recovery

cobain is pure lyrical genious, theres no arguing that, unless you just cant understand, which makes sense cause his songs are hard to get. i can pick any random song from nirvana and its a classic.

again, i could go on forever with a million songs from a million bands, but i'll stop now.
