O man that is horrible. It pisses the f$%k out of me that good people like him are paralyzed. Anyways I hope he reaches his 10,000 mark. God bless the fellow and may god give him a great afterlife(if there is one anyway) :(

Thanks for passing that on. I've already filled out a card (from NationStates forum, to include even the coldhearts here) and stamped it. It'll go out in tomorrows mail.
That's really a cool goal. His room will be lined with them by Christmas.

Even if this is true, stories like this have a tendency to snowball, and cause a lot of inconvenience for lots of people. For example, read this snopes.com article (http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/children/shergold.htm), which describes families and charities being swamped with unwanted mail, and even being forced to relocate to different addresses, all because of similar stories being spread over the internet. I'd be careful about spreading this around and encouraging people to send cards to that address: you could be doing more harm than good.

You guys... that's an urban legend... very old. I read it in a book this summer. People do have good intentions but I'm sorry to tell you it's not true!

Yes, and I did see your point. I just feel if this kid wants my card, I'll send it to him. I'm sure he could use that small bit of excitement in his assumably short lifetime.
I'm not scrapping my card, but I'll keep my eyes open for other well-wishers.

i think you missed the point of the article.

the point of the article is that these kids aren't soliciting for loads of mail... their names get put on these chain letters and distributed to people without their knowledge and it ruins their lives and the lives of people with similar names.

Well I'm neither cruel nor heartless but I've been drawn into two of these before and both were scams, tricks on the families. So if you don't mind, I'll not send a card but if the story is true, I hope the poor little sod gets his wish.

No I most certainly did not. I called him a sod. That is not a term of abuse when used the way I did. 'Poor little sod' = 'poor little guy'.

Now I've tried to explain that were I convinced that the cause was real, I wouldn't hesitate to give just a few minutes of my time. Having been burned twice, I'm politely declining whilst expressing sympathy.
