Reaffirmation and Pointless Babble

Alas, from my small amount of experience with these forums, I would just like to note some negative observations of my own.
A large number of posts are put up simply to concur with the author of the thread. They often add absolutely nothing to the debate at hand, and, in fact, only serve to take up space and waste time. I think it would be nice if certain individuals (not naming any names) would kindly refrain from posting unless they have something at least mildly interesting to add.
As interesting as it may be to see 10 people all consecutively agreeing with one another that Republicans and right-wingers are stupid (or the other way around, for political balance), it begins to wear on my nerves when my beliefs are abused by dimwits and nincompoops lacking the capacity to compose a sentence above the level of kindergarten English (those whose first language is not English, of course, having at least a reason for occasional mishaps).
Jokes and general fun is understandable. So are a few grammatical errors and supporting evidence for a point.
However, I feel it necessary, in the name of common decency and hopes for a better future, please cut down on posts full of straight up nonsense, idiocy, and pointless babble.
Thank you, and good night.

No offense, but I shall use your post as an example.
This is a good post. Not only is it concise (AKA really short), but it indicates a point of humor not already supplied in the conversation.

Actually, I think the OP understood what I was doing.

In fact, I'm willing to bet he was at least smiling when he typed his reply.

Upward Thrust is right too. I knew exactly what I was doing. Sometimes, I'm just goofy and scatterbrained. But sometimes I use humor to try to deflect hostility and tension. If you look at some of the more controversial threads, you can see my attempts at this. Sometimes they work, often they don't.

I felt your thread could lead to tension and maybe even hostility(many people are very sensitive to criticisms of their debate skills). So I thought a little deflection was needed. :)

This is an excellent point. It is nice for others to show appreciation for something you have put a lot of effort into. However, I would rather they send me an e-mail or telegram and leave the forum open for debate, unless the have something new to add. At the very least, the number of concurrences should be held to a minimum.

My recommendations for the long term ( I don’t care personally what you sound like) but go for just intelligent and logical … the extra time usually turns out to be a waist when you come up against the

1 idiot

2 line by line poster that will take every sentence out of context and roast you for it

Too much effort for what it is worth sometimes on this board

Yeah what drive me nuts is usually to refute them you have to do the same damn thing! Because all their logic usually fits into a line … which is a argument against a line you made

Correct spelling generally helps make your thoughts seem to have more validity

I definitely agree that people should invest more time (occasionally) to type something longer than a sentence. But you haven't seen any republican posters yet that do the same thing? Don't overgeneralize. It's pandemic on this board, regardless of their political affiliation.
Glad to have you though, now follow your own advice and create a topic that contains a well written post. That would be more effective than this one, and might help by example.

I'm not going to quote your entire point, but I do want to use this portion

However, I feel it necessary, in the name of common decency and hopes for a better future, please cut down on posts full of straight up nonsense, idiocy, and pointless babble.

If you don't like such things then why are you using the Internet? In fact, one of the things I like most about this forum is the (general) level of intelligence and wit shown in the threads.

Obviously there are those who post purely for shock, flame-baiting, and/or nonsensical reasons. Such is life. Don't like it, don't tune in. There are times I check my nation, visit the forums and don't se anything of interest and move on to surf the web for other purposes. Other nights I'm in here for hours at a strectch.

Next, what's wrong with a group of like minded individuals agreeing with eachother on topic fill-in-the-blank? Again, don't like it, don't tune in. Sometimes it's nice to feel like your not the only one who feels a certain way about a given subject. Plus this is a place where you DO get to express your opinion (unless the mods det the post/thread). It might be in lockstep with the original thread post, it might vary slightly, or might be radically diferent. It's called freedom of speech. If that means that the given thread looks like a bunch of yes men/women all complementing themselves for their shared wisdom it probably won't last for very long and will just fade away.

I do agree that some posts can get rather sloppy, but so what. Is the idea getting across? Then good enough for me. No one's getting graded on grammar and spelling here. And thank God for that! I'm pretty type A about my posts but regularly miss things. If I was going to take the time to cut and paste this into a Word doc and check it I'm sure there a few errrors here and there. I'm guessing you might also like everyone to refrain from profanity, but that ain't gonna happen either.

And lastly, choice. We all have the choice to be here or not. To contribute or not. To flame/spam or not. Those who provide a sufficiently negative experience to the community as a whole are dealt with. But it is always up to the individual user who isn't a complete and regularly, flamingly hateful person to join in or not. In the end, isn't this what is best in a community? I probaly wouldn't have stayed this long and had this much fun if this forum was wholely populated with only mensa smart, gramatically perfect, single minded politically and socially individuals. But for some strange reason I keep coming back. Go figer.

Please don't do that! It makes you look like a pretensious dickweed. (You're probably not, but I don't know that yet).
It's just the internet, not Lit class. Everyone is typing too fast to proofread, and the point is the context, not the execution.
Nobody is getting graded, and if you spell well, you don't pass anything.
