What you value in people.

What sort of things do you value in people?
I value conviction, but only to the point that you will change it if you are conclusively proven wrong. I value intelligence, the more the better. I value altruism. I value peacefulness and uninflamatoryability. And finally, I value people who hold LOGIC above freaky things like random beliefs based on a book of fairy tales compiled several thousand years ago and mistranslated until it became unrecognizable.

Sounds like we are fairly similar … add the usual since of humor and compassion and general civility … respect for fellow humankind that sort of thing we are fairly close lol

I value:

Wit
Humor

Integrity
Loyalty
and
Experience.

Pretty much in that order.

I value thinking for oneself, conviction and confidence, curiosity, selflessness, creativity, and intelligence.

Edit:
Spontaneity as well.

I value common sense, a sense of humor, and honesty. Also, I think a person should be openminded enough to accept other people's beliefs even though you don't agree with them. I value people that do not attack something because they do not belief in it and call it logic. That is what I value.

Loyalty for one, being a good friend is also very important.
I value a sense of humour, a willingness to laugh at oneself.
Honesty and Trust are more valuable than all that money can buy.
Acceptance of others, and the need to improve who you are are essential.
Most of all, appreciation of what life has given you is the most precious gift of all.

I agree with you on everything but the conviction part. I don't think it is possible for a person to ever prove anything absolutely consclusivly wrong off of any self righteous belief. I value willingness to be whoever you truly are by doing what you want to do over any other person's wants or who they want you to be.

Honesty first. I have a deep seated hatred of liars of any kind. Frauds are the worst kind of people.
Also at the top would be a good SOH, creativity, intelligence and openmindedness. Hospitality and civility are way underrated these days.
I also respect individuality, but nonconformity for it's own sake is a bit pathetic.

Sense of humor
Support of gay marriage
Environmental concern
Kindness to animals
Tolerance and interest in cultures and beliefs different than their own
Support of peace
Not doing away with their beliefs when it's more convenient not to have them
A desire to learn - I don't mind when people aren't all that intelligent, but I sure as hell mind when people have the potential to be smart and don't try for it
A respect of history

I reckon that's about it, although there are of course other things I value in people that I shan't bother mentioning because they're not as important.

Humour seems to be a recurring theme here...which I don't get. I appreciate humour in people, but I don't respect it all that much, per se...

Well, it doesn't matter to me if someone not's constantly cracking jokes all the time... but I think a certain amount of humor is important. Don't misunderstand my post, though... it may have been first on my list, but that list wasn't mean to represent order of importance.

I value those who lead an examined life, who go their own road in spite of (fill-in-the-blank), who question authority, who in life enrich the lives of those they touch, and who in death leave this place better than they found it.

I value courage and recklessness. Good perception. Belief in one's worth. Above all, when a person has something they protect.

Ahh, I see now. I would regard it more as general amiability, but I see and agree with your point now. Though I still might not call it something I "value", perhaps "prefer".

I suppose you're right. "Value" should be something a bit deeper, you think?

I value humor, honesty, loyalty, logic, intelligence, and the spontinaity and guts to do something like scream "I love _____" in the middle of a crowded city.

Having spent way too many years working in customer service jobs, I value silence, self-reliance, and common sense - which often seem to be in short supply with the average person.

But the traits mentioned in the other posts are all nice too.

Honesty (even if brutal)
Clear thinking (even if I don't think that way)
Sense of Duty (even if I don't believe in their concept of duty)
Moral Conviction (even if I don't agree)
Motivation (I hate people who quit or fall out)

Basically, if you believe in something, stand by it, have thought it out rationally, and won't quit in supporting that idea, I will tend to like you, even if I think you're all wrong. At least you're not wasting my oxygen.

If you're an uncreative slug who pontificates online in your underwear, eating Twinkies and drinking Cherry Coke, while decrying the destruction of the <fill in the blank> and lamenting the oppression imposed by <fill in another blank>, and yet you're still living with your parents and have never been anywhere, then I despise you.
