I heard that SG-1 is already running for like 9 seasons. To my knowledge no Startrek serie ever lasted that long.

I've seen SG-1, thought it was not too bad. Low-budget and sci-fi/action doesn't usually make for very good programming though. I did really like the MacGuyver jab in the pilot too :D .
I haven't seen Stargate Atlantis, what's the premise?

I find it very cool how almost all people on the other worlds speak English. Or are bi langual. Their own language plus English. At least Starfleet has universal translators to explain that.

I haven't seen Stargate Atlantis, what's the premise?They find a new code... one that is targeted outside the system. (hinted at when O'neill was crammed full of Asguardian Knowledge.) they send a large team over to explore. what they find is a city built by the Ancients... and they awake the creatures responsible for their deaths.

Does anyone else think next season will be the last one? I hear Amanda Tapping may not come back or will only be a recurring character, and that Richard Dean Anderson won't be there at all. I hear Jonas may come back, however.

I was hoping for 10 seasons so it could beat the sci-fi TV record set by X Files.

Well, I don't have zits and I don't wear braces anymore. However, I do live with my parents (for 4 more weeks till my apartment is ready) and I don't have a job (again, for 4 weeks).

Hee. I'm a fan of SG1... it amuses me. It may not be the highest quality show or anything, but it's better than a lot of other shows out there nowadays and well... sometimes it's nice to just settle down with a nice sci-fi, no matter how cheesy it may or may not be.

Actually, the season is still going. They start the season in the summer, take a fall break, and restart the rest of the season on January 21.

I used to love Stargate: SG-1, and then it kind of got long and drawn out around seasons 7 - present... so, I don't watch it as much.

no the ancients were gone long before people started being transplanted by the go'auld, and still, even then the ONLY people from an english speaking part of the world were people on the midevil world everyone else was from non english speaking areas

SG:1's good, though Atlantis is...different. Not bad, but different (though the more I see, the more it grows on me).
Would like to say though, in Atlantis why do all the Scots get their flag, but the English get the Union Flag? I want to see the Flag of St.George!

Huge Stargate fan here. Hell, I like it so much, I watch Proof Positive just to watch Amanda Tapping. I'll be going to Gatecon '05 next summer in Vanvouver and everything.

I'd disagree because, well, Stargate's cool. I mean, c'mon, there were some awesome things about Star Trek, but they never had the P90s and kevlar equivalent of Stargate. Also, the combination of chars is, in my opinion, better than Star Trek, or at least different. The general is also pretty cool.

1. American show geared for english viewers, thus everythings in English. There might be an SAP available, but if it was made in Japan for a Japanese audience it would probably be in, what? JAPANESE!

2. To create a new language, or research the properly evolved language for eah culture shown on the series, would be way too much work for a weekly tv series.

3. Most viewers would rather utilize their ability to willingly suspend their disbelief and just enjoy a show where they can understand what everyone is saying without having to read a bunch of subtitiles.

4. As the aforementioned Geek that I am, here goes. D Jackson does utilize his Archaeological language abilities regularly to read the written records of lost civilizations - less so in recent seasons, but regularly in the early years. Also, Star Trek has made obvious use of the Universal Translator on many occasions - plus they use subtitles every now and then when aliens are speaking in their native tounges (mostly when Klingons are speaking Klingonese).

It is your TV that is doing the translating. That is why they can have people speaking the same language.

Now if you do want to spend disbelief then deal with the truth:
It saves money having everyone speak the same language. Why do you think there is such a push for Everyone to speak the same language in this country? Money and Major Corportations do play a role in that.

Why do you think that transportors were used in the original Star Trek series to begin with? Because it was going too expensive to film a shuttle craft landing every week.

No, Stargate is far funnier. I have watched Star Trek, ST:NG, ST:DS9, ST:Voger, and Enterprise. One of the things that makes Stargate the best is the sense of humor that runs throughout of the whole series in no small part due to Richard Dean Anderson.

I am an avid SG-1 fan... watched a few epi's of Season 8, which looks fantastic but the Stargate Atlantis Series I haven't got into...

Btw, they're supposed to be releasing some books based on the series at some point...

Favourite Character has got to be O'Neill... oh the attitude is great.

I think the humour really comes in from the interactions of the four main characters with O'Neill... best set for humour has be Carter and O'Neill...

Totally agree with you on every point. Who ever started the line about people living in their parents' basement if they like this show has so many issues that they are bordering needing a subscription to "I afaird to deal with myself" and "If I blame other people and act mean no one will notice what I am really like."
