If anyone has said budweiser, stella artois or any variation of a beer with 'lite' after it, I shall kick them repeatedly in the teeth. Budweiser is scum, stella isn't beer and it's secret name is wife-beater, and anything with 'lite' after it is not worthy of being deemed drinkable. Someone doesn't like awful beer, oh my god!

Here's a question for you all (I won't say y'all, for some reason) - When you first started drinking, what was your drink of choice?

I am unhappy to say that I started on those 700ml bottles of WKD blue. It was the most foul and sugary drink known to man, but it was 5.5% and at 14 that is VERY strong

the orange flavoured vodka is similar to WKD, except I think that the blue one was supposed to taste like bubblegum. The other one was worse, though. It was supposed to taste like Irn Bru, except it was a cheap knockoff called Iron Brew. You could make people sick at the site of that stuff

I have heard about that. It was another one of those alcopops like Bacardi Sliver and Smrinoff Ice. They do taste nice and sweet but I will never drink them ever again. Once your alcohol maturity rises, you understand how crappy, and expensive they are.

My favorite is either Killian's Irish Red or Rolling Rock
Also like:
Fat Tire
Sam Adams
Amber Boch
Icehouse
just about any microbrew

For American "yellow" beer:
MGD
Miller "champagne of beer" High-life ;)
Coors
Bud, sometimes

I also like all but the nastiest malt liquors and ice beers:
Mickeys & Mickeys Ice (if I can ever find it again)
Smirnoff Ice
Schlitz Malt Liquor
Bud Ice

Oooh, it's a stretch to call it beer, but I really like hard lemonade and hard cider. I haven't yet found a brand of such stuff that I don't like.

Don't like:
any Lite/Light beer
PBR
"The Beast"
Michelob
Busch
Corona (rather have a XX)
Korean beer
bitter ales... I just don't drink beer often enough to maintain the taste for that stuff anymore.

No-one has put boddingtons up so far. Is it really that hated?

Ahh, all this experimentation reminds me of the days my friends and I used to make the fateful 'shit-mix'. To make this, you basically took every alcohol-form present in each of your parent's houses (whiskey, rum, cognac, cider, beer, sherry, etc.) then chucked some of each in an empty 3 litre bottle and drank it between you in 10 minutes. My god, if you ever want to projectile vomit further than 6ft, this is the drink for you. I'll never forget the day we put my dad's absinthe in it.....

And to answer The Tribes Of Longton's question, I started with wine (What can I say i'm part Fench!!) When I was 11, and I still remember starting to drink wine one evening and then waking up in the stairs of my house with drool on both sides of my face the next morning  Aaaaaaaaaah... the memories :p

Aghhh! I hate best of lists. There is no one best beer. There is only good beer (ignore the others), what you have to be in the mood for. If you are in the mood for a lager, don't have a stout. It doesn't mean one is better than the other, but that they are brewed for a specific purpose.

I also just wanted to give a shout out to North Coast Brewery. They have a stout called Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout which is a little chunk of heaven. They also have another stout called Old No. 38 Stout which is real good. In fact, all the beers I've had from them have been good. Sierra Nevada is another one to check out, as well I think their beers are more available. And now, I leave you with a song:

When I was seventeen,
I drank some very good beer,
I drank some very good beer I purchased with a fake ID,
My name was Brian McGee,
I stayed up listening to Queen,
When I was seventeen.

Here's an out-of-the-box answer: lambic. (My specific favorite -- Lindeman's framboise).

Of the "regular" beers, it would be Shiner "Bock".

I also like the fruit relatives (cider, hard lemonade, etc.).

My wife and I used to homebrew, and the best beer we made was a spicy, peppery lager.

BTW, stout is not separate from ales and lagers. It is a type of ale.

Well, its great beer regardless of whether or not youve tried it, Big Rock... don't get me wrong, they do have some good beer, the McNallys, Black Amber and Traditional are all decent, but Im not about to give them a blue ribbon yet.

And as far as everyone on Granville Island smoking up, yeah, thats a pretty stereotypical attitude. I live here in Vancouver now, and the stereotypes about rampant drug use here, are no more deserved than they are in Calgary or Edmonton.

You poor people, living in ignorance, drinking Bud or Coors or Miller or whatever other enema-water is being passed off as beer.

If you have your heart set on drinking only American beer then at least pick up a Samuel Adams or an Anchor. The Sam Adams Winter Lager is in stores at this time of year and is a damn fine beer. The Sam Adams Ale is a good anytime beer. The Anchor Liberty Ale is delicious and the Anchor Porter is smooth and creamy for those unafraid of the dark.

The Brits and Irish make some of the best beer in the world. And while a hand drawn Old Speckled Hen is always a treat, for me there is no beer that compares with the Devil's Buttermilk:
