Non-forum tagging

Our Earth

Just briefly, the idea behind the tag game is to create a swarm system. The game works simply enough, there are a certain number of people who are "it" and they can pass their "itness" on to others by tagging them. In a forum tags are accomplished within the posts. My hope is to create an e-mail based tag game coordinated by a central server. The game would work like this, each player would register an e-mail address with the server, then whenever an "it" player got the e-mail address of another non-"it" player they could send an e-mail from their registered account, to the server with the address of the player to be tagged either as the subject, or in the body of the e-mail. The server would then check the e-mail address against the database and if it matched, would change the state of each player and send an e-mail to the new "it" who could then tag others. Aside from the fact that it would be easy and would take very little time to tag other players, the server could host a web page with a ranking of all the players by the most tagged/tagging to give people a little motivation to participate, and another page with a few random e-mail addresses of non-"it" players from the database each time it was refreshed.

So what is basically needed is a form in which the person puts in an e-mail address and an alias and those are stored with a simple binary variable (it or not it) and then an automatic e-mail reader to read the addresses of the taggers and their targets and match those with the e-mail addresses in the database to change the variables.

If anyone is interested in exploring this idea, send me an e-mail at ajprax@yahoo.com especially if you have some experience with web forms, internet databases, or e-mail readers.

sounds like fun--for that reason alone the mods would never allow it
