The US and Canada

Sorry this thread is not like what you might think where I would be comparing the two, I just wanted to say that Canada is like a brother to us, and no, not like a cute little brother or anything, I think Canadians and the US share a kind of brotherhood. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BUSHS STUPID SPEACH. In fact its the opposite, because all you in the US who else is going to be anti-Bush and at the same time not anti-American? Europe is anti-Bush but they are also mostly very anti-American, Im deeply saddened when I see a thread about Canada invading the US, just so you know Canada, at least 48% of US citizens like you, another 35-40% dont have any feelings, and the remainers dont like you, that may be how it is up there, but all Im saying is where isolated here in the middle of nowhere basically, if we dont have each other who do we have? Maybe we'll take Mexico and you could take Greenland, but I could never see that happening, basically we are the only two nations over here that speak English, and that dont have completely different cultures and social levels, so basically to wrap it up, we have to stick together, even if the election did tick you off, it also ticked us off.

Actually, those of us up here in Canada see it more as a Big Sister (Canada) / Little Brother (America) situation. You love him, even if he does do stupid things from time to time.

"He invaded who now? <Sigh> Oh, that little rascal."

Should Canada
join an economic, political and social union
with the USA similar to the European Union or
should it join the European Union?

Which is it closer too in
economic, political and social terms?

An economic, political, and social union with America? You mean "Should the States annex Canada?" Because that's about what it would amount to. And I'm not saying that as an 'anti-American' statement either, just take a look at the difference in our populations or our GDP's and tell me if it's realistic to expect that the two countries would exert equal influence in that relationship. And if they did, that wouldn't be fair to the people in the United States. The truth is, Canada and the USA are already extremely interwoven in almost all areas of society already, it's just not overtly noticable. We don't really need a 'NAU' to recognize that fact.

Besides, a 'union' between Canada and the States would be kind of like incest anyway. ;)

most Canadians understand our relationship to the Americans, even if its the fact that they are the main source of our nation's economy are we are dependant upon exports to maintain our standard of living.

I think it's a little embarassing to us that we have to be so dependant on someone, especially when they do something we dont like.

Most anti-americanism is just out of that resentment. We dont agree with what you agree with, but we cant do anything or else we become a thrid world nation.

if only you were progressive in your neo-conservatism....

(is that an hypocrasy?)

We've had NAFTA, and NORAD and lots of stuff like that for decades that would make a NAU irrelevant

Exactly my point. As I said, we're so completely interwoven already that we really don't need a kind of 'NAU' to recognize that fact.

Canada can't join the European Union. It's on the wrong continent.
