Some may have noticed that I am mocking the "weed" thread. Yes, I am.

Remarkable how quickly the "no, because I am not stupid" people chimed in in that one... and where are they here? I have seen far more lives destroyed by booze than by grass. It's just amazing to me how so many people fall into the party line and repeat the same old cannards. Well, booze DOES slay brain cells, so maybe it's not really such a surprise...

So these golf clubs walk into a bar. The bartender is a bit confused by this, but business is business, so he asks the first one, "What'll ya have?"

The golf club says, "Nothing for me, thanks. I'm the driver."

Beer, yes tried the stuff. Under it's spell currently, not proud, but not ashamed either. Beer has in one way or another led to some of my most pleasant memories, or made me feel like a complete jackass. I think the question is what does beer bring out in people?

I skipped beer and moves straight on to hard spirits... the average proof of something I drink is about 40%

luckily for my organs, I don't drink that much; being of a tender age and unable to purchase the stuff consciencely, I save it for special occasions

Yeah I did it once... vomited though. In my defence I say that I was 11 and a ½ and it was a really strong beer so... I´ve stayed away from alcohol since then (am 16 now). And keep in mind, I´m a metal guitarist and DON`T drink beer.... it´s like... wrong! ;)

Hmm, reasonably tipsy on beer right now (Chimay, for those curious about the brand) and considering going out to the (opened till late) grocery to get some more. Pro: would appreciate some more. Contra: would have to get dressed again, cold outside, don't want to have a hangover tomorrow.

Pot kills brain cells as well. It can also cause gynecomastia, (man boobs.)

Put it this way; I know a number of pretty successful people who are fairly heavy drinkers; but very few successful pot smokers. Most pot smokers I know are dropouts who work completely menial jobs. Weed completely sucks ambition out.

I'm not advocating heavy drinking, either, but I'm getting really sick of the "alcohol is worse than weed" argument. No, it isn't. Some people simply can't handle it. However, humans have been drinking so long that most of us are actually genetically programmed to be able to handle alcohol. Are there any studies showing that moderate pot smoking actually increases longevity? There is with drinking. You know that inhaling smoke into your lungs is unhealthy, right? Especially the unfiltered sort.

Actually, there's an interesting point on human tolerance to alcohol. We haven't been drinking alcohol too long actually - 5000 years, at the very most, with mead and that sort of rubbish. And trust me, that's way, way too short a time to devolop complex mechanisms of metabolism. The reason humans (well, the lucky ones) can deal with alcohol so effectively (we can consume enormous amounts of the stuff considering what wonderful effects it has on our nervous systems) is that the bacteria in our gut generate rather large amounts of it as a biproduct of fermentation. All mammals are exposed to alcohol as a general rule for much of the time, and so the metabolic clearing mechanisms developed (oxidation up to ethanal and acetate). What this means, is that some people ARE DRUNK ALL THE TIME, whether they've been drinking or not. Seriously though, I think you most certainly have a point with regard to the lack of ambition of pot smokers (although I'd like to see a more detailed study as to whether it actually affects there capacity or probability of getting on in life ... it may just be that certain social groups are more likely to get menial jobs, and also more likely to smoke pot); on the other hand I know a good handful of people that have had their lives ruined, or been killed by alcohol or its consequences, and none that have suffered serious catastrophy through pot smoking. And I'm only nineteen. Incidently, I was even drunk when writing this (although you'd never guess ;) ).

That's interesting. Many of my friends smoke; half of them including myself are honor students at private college. So...are you sure these people you know weren't already un-ambitious and then smoked weed, or rather naturally un-ambitious people are attracted to weed as opposed to weed making people un-ambitious?

Anyway weed can be dangerous; it takes responsibility like with any other intoxicating drug.

But you got me on the unfiltered smoke thing...yeah that sucks, so make brownies instead. :)
