i was wondering how many ppl actually like the UN. i mean come on. THe UN is more corrupt than the american governmant which in a way is very bad. i feel sry for all of you who joined a thing that takes away rights and freedoms. i heard the other day that the UN planned on taking away all fire arms in 2006. i dont know if it is true and the thought just bothers me. another thing hte UN is also deciding on whether or not they should vote on a bill that will make it so that even if your country was bombed you couldnt do jack crap till they say that you can attack them.
this is all on the real UN.
i like the idea of the UN but it doesnt seem to work in practice.
" i feel sry for all of you who joined a thing that takes away rights and freedoms" dude, it doesnt say you're american but if you are, what about your patriot act?

The UN is good in concept but bad in reality...kinda like communism. It would work but people can't handle it. The UN needs some serious reformation before it becomes relevant again.

i never said that america didnt have its faults and that but the UN is even more corrupt the americans were giving our hard earned dollars to the feds and cuz america is in the UN. the Feds had to give some of that money to the UN. which then funded corrupt dictators.
ps: the Patriot Act sucks!!! thats why im happy they are revising it.

The UN is a primitive form of world government, one that respects the soveriegnty of it's member nations within it's charter. Translation: they can't touch the second amendment.
And what country in their right mind would vote against retaliation?
There is no such thing as a "phantom UN" that isn't associated with any country and rules over the entire world. The UN is simply a place for countries to work out their arguments in an arbitrary environment.
It's a place for the world to work together on tough issues like global hunger, AIDS, environmental issues like global warming/ ozone pollution and so on. The only military connection they have are UN peacekeeping forces that maintain ceasefires.
The UN exists so that countries don't have to go to war over stupid stuff. They can complain in a nice arbitrary environment. Sure it doesn't always work, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't exist.
So why in god's name would you be against the UN? You can be against the countries that levy those type of issues, or oppose your countries policies, but there is no way an educated person could be against the UN's ideology.

Because instead of being a place such as you have described it has become a den full of corrupt politicians. Seriously any place that can put China on a human rights council can't be that good.
Plus, as show in recent events, the UN doesn't matter. Any country can still do whatever the hell it wants to.
there is no way an educated person could be against the UN's ideology.
That's not true at all. An intelligent person could argue that it infringes upon a nation's sovereignty. But the question was not do you like the idea, but do you like the real UN, and the real UN is kinda sucky.

The UN is like a world government without a world to control. It's a bunch of weak countries trying to grow stronger by uniting, but this will just make those nations disapear under the "great" name of the UN.

HOW CAN I BE AGAIST THE UN? laughs continuously till he slaps himself
that is a really hard question.
hmmmmm...
actually it is quite simple i dont like there being a world power of any sort exept with one nation controlling other nations not unting to fight disease and hunger i believe that if you were mean to die you would die. basically if you were meant to starve you starve. or if you were meant to have AIDS you have AIDS. i dont believe in a god or some higher power i believe each nation should be able to talk to another nation without other nations butting in at a meeting of all nations. i think that in bout 15- 20 years the US will withdrawl from the UN cuz the un already controls our waters, it controls half of europe and dont forget austrailia.

Look, you haven't offered any evidence of corruption, and when the ENTIRE WORLD is involved, your "corrupt politicians" have a ton of eyes on them.
Isn't putting China on a human rights council forcing them to look at their own policies?
Any country can do whatever it wants to, then WHY ARE YOU AFRAID that they will instate some crazy laws? The real UN is sucky, well that's an intelligent argument if I've heard one. I stand by my point.

I think that the U.N. could improve, but that it's much better to have the current U.N. than no U.N. at all. Now if we could get the U.S. to respect other countries' decisions...like the Kyōto Protocol, for starters...

Hell yes, I love the UN. Me Encanta el UN. And it would be a damn shame for Kofi Annan to resign for several reasons, one of them being that it would be a victory for Republicans, another being the simple fact that he is doing a kick-ass job as UN Secretary-General.
