Province in alberta, right wing, lots of oil, almost as much as the saudis do.
10% of the population.
25% (by 2006) of the Canadian economy.
Demonized by eastern press and by scared little people in Toronto.
Craziest weather in the world.
Only 40% of the economy is on OIL.
At $30 dollar oil, manufacturing is greater than oil as a percentage of the economy.
2nd greatest oil reserves in the world behind the saudis.
Calgary is the 4th largest city in canada.
Contributes $9 billion to canada more than it gets back. By comparison Ontario gives $1 billion.
** 9% of the popular vote, voted for the Green party in the last federal election, highest of any province!
*** not everyone likes KING RAPLH and not everyone wants to dismantle the national health care system!

How do you figure. I visited Alberta for 2 weeks without seeing one change in the weather. I think one clould moved the whole time I was there...

alberta also has the biggest mall in the world.
and dinosaur bones.
apparantly there's an astrophysics graduate programme at a university out there... i want to say university of calgary, but that doesn't sound right.

Well the summer tends to be pretty good other than thunder storms.
But I was thinking the winter. Here's a example:
monday it got bloody cold - 20 C, snowed alot blah blah blah
Tuesday ~ wed bloody cold
Today I go to work its still -20, that was 8am, go for a coffee at 10am with all my winter crap on and its 10 C. 30C change in two hours, just crazy.
Thats from the winter chinook winds that blow in warm air....

i haven't done too much lookign into graduate programmes yet... i only even looked at alberta 'cause my bf wanted to go out there to study paleontology. i think he's changed his mind though.

Didn't Alberta refuse to legalize gay marriage even when the rest of Canadian territories made it legal? Seems like I remember reading that somewhere.
Anyway, I think that Alberta should secede from Canada and join with it's neighbor to the south, the US.
