The other thread about what Americans think of football inspired me. What is the best football laegue in the world? You can vote based on talent of playes, excitement, speed of the game, whatever you think is the best.

In my opinion it is the Serie A. Poll up in a minute...

Agreed.

But since that is probably not what they are going for, Premiership.

The Italian league. Generally has the best players. People say that the Premier League does, but that's crap. Maybe the best players do come to England, but how many Brazilians can you name who play in the PL and have more than 10 international caps? Or Italians? Or Spaniards? It's just French, Scandinavian, Dutch and random African/Asian/South American (excluding Argentina and Brazil - the decent ones). The one criticism of the Italian league - that it's too defensive - is crap as well. The average goal/game ration is virtually no different to other major national leagues. So yeah, Serie A gets my vote.
Please note - I didn't even consider the Spanish league. Because the standard of football, apart from a few teams, is shockingly bad. Nearly half the teams in the Spanish Primera Liga would struggle to survive in the English First Division (Championship, whatever...it's the Second Division really).

None of that rings true..
people don't like Serie A because it's all stop start because they have one decent referee who doesn't take any crap.

If you had a list of the club origins of every player in the World Cup, most would be in the Premiership.

The Premiership is the fastest league in the world and players from all over the world flock to it.. gota be the Premiership.

and your criticism of La Liga is the best point about it! Anyone can win, the shittest team in the league can beat Real Madrid, i think thats awesome.

Seria A and the La Liga is good, but they don't show it here in my country very often.

I like EPL though, faster paced though less strategic. Thats why teams with foreign coaches tend to dominate the league, like Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal (exception of Manyoo).

But Italian and Spanish is very flair.

Just a point on foreign players in EPL. You notice that when they (expensive brazillians/argentines/spaniards (apart from Xabi Alonso)/Italians) do get here, they can't keep with the pace of the game...Veron anybody? The Italian League is good, but you won't see so many big names going there any more as no-one has any money any more. Spanish league is very good, a little too hierarchical...and the EPL is going that way too...mores the pity. Just a note though...anyone miss Football Italia on C4 now it has gone to British Eurosport. James Richardson is a legend!

I think the poll is somewhat innacurate and weighted in favor of EPL due to the fact that there are many more Brits and English speakers on this site than people of other nationalities and languages.

And although I think Serie A is currently the best, I don't think it will be long until EPL overtakes it due to the enourmous debt of the big Italian sides.

Poll gave the choice of "Other"

Specification:

MLB

Can't say that I've heard of any of the so-called best "leagues" posted. Therefore, by default, I go with MLB.

MLS? Yeah, I suppose I have heard of it. I just didn't know that it still existed. And that is being completely honest. I thought it would have folded by now.

For the record, it's headed in the opposite direction with 2 new expansion teams next year (Los Anegeles and Salt Lake City), and possbily 2 more in '06 (Seattle and aonther city TBD). It also lured Freddy Adu, beating out top European clubs Manchester United and Juventus (if you've heard of them), and is exporting talent to Europe at an all-time high. Revenues are also up and in 2003 average atendances were higher than those of the NBA and NHL, the first of which I am also a fan of.
