This perfectly illustrates the way that Christian are intolerant of other people! The Amalekites were just a normal group of people who wanted to live their lives by themselves, and the Old Testamint Christians (yes, I know, whateveryournameis) thought that their "YHWH" wanted to spread his kingdom and get rid of evil! It's true that some Christians today use such passages from the Bible to justify their actions, taking them out of context and warping them for their own purposes. Some white supremacists identified Ham as a justification for slavery, claiming he was cursed by his father and condemned to servitude, and all his descendents (apparently all of Africa) were doomed to slavery as well. This isn't even factually accurate, reeks of gross bias, and has a lot of holes in it. Anyways... the Bible isn't just a collection of mandates specifying appropriate behavior. It's literature and should be interpreted with this in mind. Just because someone a loooong time ago wiped out some other people with the purported consent of God doesn't mean monkey-see-monkey-do is justified.

That said, the modern Christian that isn't INSANE doesn't do this. There's often a distinction between the Old Testament (w/ the Amalekite incident) and the New Testament, with many Christians more occupied with the 'softer side' in the New Testament. After all, it's where Jesus appears. There seem to be almost two different Gods for each book: the hardass, vengeance-is-mine Hebrew Yahweh and the more forgiving, compassionate Christian God (particularly through his apparent son Jesus). A lot of fundamentalists, supremacists (including Nazis), and otherwise assholes take the older perspective, then warp it. It's great. *note sarcasm* ;)

First of all, it seems that a lot of you have fallen for the myth that Nazis are Far-right-wing, and therefore conservatives or something. That is not true. I don't know where the idea that Nazis are right wing comes from, but the fact is that Nazism comes from the same root as Communism and Socialism. The only difference between Nazis and Communists is that Nazis are way more extreme in their dealings.
Now, there seems to be a lot of animosity towards Christians out there. A lot of you are saying that Christians are all bigots who force their beliefs on others. I suppose there are some who do that but the fact is that this belief goes against Biblical principles. The Bible teaches that we cannot change people's beliefs, that can only be done by the Holy Spirit (I'm also wondering how many of you Christian Bashers have studied the Bible) One post said something like Christian Fundamentalists are crazy people who want everyone to conform to their ignorant worldview. I won't deal with the validity of Christianity right now, but this type of thinking shows extreme historical ignorance. It was not until Christians came along that human rights were established. Look at whatever city in which you live. I bet there are probably several ministries such as the Salvation Army around, and not even you could say that they are enemies of civilization (if you do then I'm just wasting my time on crazy people). Women were given dignity by the spread of Christianity, and we got Chattel slavery when Christian principles were abandoned. True Christians have been the voice of tolerance throughout the ages. True in some cases, heretics and other people with incomplete understandings of the Bible have done bad things in the name of Christ, and even true Christians sin! No one is perfect, but the Bible teaches a message of love and hope that all men (used in the sense of 'mandkind' or all humans, for those politically correctnazis) are created in the image of God. I would challenge you to open your history books, but most of the modern History books don't say anything about this, because they are written with people with your kind of worldview. However, the truth is out there and I'm sure that if you want to know it, you can find it.

Hi, this seems like a very intresting topic that you guys (and gals) are talking about. I hope you would allow me to add my two cents as well. I think its funny that this thread starts on the topic of Nazisim and ends with Christendom. The two are very interlocked. The Nazi's (you know hitler and them) weren't even christians actually. They hated christianity because it was a detriment to the basic principles of Nazisim, which is Facisim, or the immense love and pride of one's country and it bieng better and superior to all others. So Christanity taught equality, and Nazisim taught superioirty, obviously this leads to strife. This brings up two pointsa i want to futrther discuss upon.

1) Nazisim, theoretically is both a good and bad political ideology. Its good because it allowed order and a sense of national pride to fill the German people after the long dpressions and slumps caused by WW1, (and yes Europe had two great depression). It's bad when you have a political leader and co-leaders that take the ideology too far. The Holocaust was bad, and i hope nothing likes it happens again, but the Nazi's did not kill off the Jews because of any real intense conspiracy to kill everyone. At the Time, Jews were a minority throughout Germany and Most of Europe, and they had no home country to aid them when they become persecuted. So the Jews became the scapegoat and catalyst to Nazisim.

2) Christanity is a good religious belief. I will say that i am a christian. But i also am quarter Jewish. The old Testemant is not all about kicking the crap out of people in Yahweh's name (Jehovah in english). It's about God, a higher power directing his people in what they do. And for the Records the Amalekites were not peaceful people, they were a warrior society. It may not seem logical to preach peace and tell people to go to war, but who are we to question what has happened in the past. In the Old and New Testament, God is always loving. He lead the people of Israel out of Eygpt, he fed them and healed them in the wilderness. He gave them land, but there were people on it, so he commanded the israel people to clear them off. Hypothetical situation: Its like you have a dog, and you are walking it around on your farm. When out of nowhere you find that a pack of loose rabid dogs are on your land. The begin to attack your dog. Do you stand there and let your dog be killed, or as a higher bieng do you step in and lead your dog to take back the land you obvioulsy gave it to do it doo-doo on.

and on an ending note, the bible was not written by romans, it was wriiten by different apostles and divine prophets who wrote in Hebrew and Greek, not roman. But yes many Christian holidays have Pagan routes, and the Cross was originally a pagan symbol representing tameluk the sun god, who by the way Constantine of Constantinople had placed on all christian shields to represnt the power of god. Oh the word Yahweh or jehovah comes from the original Hebrew text, its not something people just made up, Heck its even in Indiana Jones...
