Tell me about Denmark

Someday I plan on travelling overseas to Europe to see the countries of my heritage. Being an American I am somewhat of a "mutt." Danish, Norwegian, Irish, and German. Lucky me!

Anyways-I am very interested to hear what any of you Europeans (or anyone else who has visited these areas) has to say about Denmark....is it a cool place, is it fun, hows the beer, etc? This is the place I wish to visit most. (Unless everyone tells me it is horrible or something).

Denmark is less an actual country than a smell that the rest of Europe doesn't want to be associated with.

Its economy is dependant on American military bases and Lutefisk, a kind of torture with the consistency of jello and the taste of seawater. Their own military's training consists of "how to properly hold signs that say 'Please don't shoot- we surrender" in the language of the invader. All youths are conscripted for one year, as the amazing rate of failure shown in the local populace at this task leaves them constantly understocked.

Finally, Danish men consider it fashionable to wear bicycling shorts and a black turtleneck sweater, enough so that they will wear it every day for three weeks straight, and often cry when you comment on the rancid stank.

There is no hearsay in this - all of this is my experience:

Society-wise, Denmark is a Nordic country. If you haven't been in any, the closest thing would be the Benelux. Clean, organized, technological; very much like USA without the ghettoes and skyscrapers. Bicycles are used more effectively than in northern countries (and of course way better than in the car-fetishist USA.) The people are frolicingly cheerful like the Norwegians or sociable like East Germans. There are few "diet" margarines or such things, and they have good knife-cut slices over pansy cheese slicer cuts. Beer is drank as casually as in Germany.

There are few interesting sights to see, but for kids, there's an unbelievable number of activities. This is the country where you want to go with your kids. Or go bicycling.
