I'm just curious to see. Time magazine ran an article this, as seen below.

He is the US Army deserter that fled to North Korea, and was just released from a military prison in Japan. I have to say that it changed my opinion on him. At first, I thought that he may have bought into North Korean propaganda, and that's why he may have defected. Now I know that he wasn't dangerous, but just extremely stupid, and a bit of a coward. A coward because he was afraid to tell his superiors that he couldn't lead troops in Vietnam, and stupid because he had no real plan to get out of North Korea. Still, the information he provides on the world's most secretive society is intriguing.

He was dumb.

Living 40 years in that "society" is punishment enough.

As long as he didn't get anybody hurt or killed, just give him a DD and let him go.

I agree. He actually did get a life sentence, and was formally discharged this week.

Anyhow, I forgot to mention how good he'd be for providing intelligence. Jenkins was an English teacher at a military academy there, and his Korean-born daughters almost became their spies. He got a lot of perks from the government, and even stared as the American imperialist in a few propaganda films. This guy knows better than any other Westerner how North Korea works.

And btw, I also read in there that there is still a deserter that lives there. I find that a bit hard to believe. I mean, wouldn't he want out with Jenkins?
