Free time?

What do all you guys do with your free time? Besides this of course. What are your hobbies and what not. I have no free time because of my hobby, so I guess you could say I use it all for my hobby. I am a musician and spend several hours a day going to school ( you would be amazed how much classwork there is for a music major), practicing, and listening, all to become a better musician. What are you guyses hobbies?

listening to music, posting here, watching tv & movies, smoking weed, reading... pretty boring stuff really. used to play guitar but my housemate this year is honestly amazing at it, and it just makes me feel totally inferior & crap when i play now.

Various random art projects that never get finished (over-complicated board games, comics, novels, customised toys... the list just goes on and on).
Playing Morrowind (yay Morrowind) or Pharaoh... or UT2k3. Or, um, other games. I like computer games.
And when I want a change from computer games, I play GameCube games. Yes, the system may suck, but hey, two words: Eternal. Darkness. Makes it all worth it. Mmmm.
Rereading my Discworld books. Over and over. Occasionally rereading my Artemis Fowl books. Eventually I'll start reading properly again... probably.
Online comics (8-Bit Theatre, Platinum Grit, Sinfest, Queen of Wands, Something Postive and Absurd Notions currently).
Wondering why lipstick and eyeliner hate me so. I assume it's because of some horrible crime I committed in a past life.
Boring people with long lists (or occasionally online-diary entries)

Oh, yeah. Free time.

Way too much of it is spent on this forum these days, but aside from this it goes a little something like this:

Sleeping - I love to sleep!
Studying for my TEFL certification
Reading
Writting
Watching TV
Listening to music
Hanging out with the love of my life
Some PS2, but I still prefer my PC

Occassionally I get out and do some hiking, backpacking, fishing, cross country skiing, target shooting and photography. But no where near as much as I'd like.

Dang it... I had a nice, long post typed up, and when I went to submit it, I was hit with the "You are not logged in" business, and my post got lost in the shuffle...

So, here goes again...

Anyways, my free time is fairly limited these days... Between work, sleeping, and my fiancee (who always seems to find something for us to be doing with every free minute we have together... not that I'm complaining per se...but sometimes, I'd like to just sit around peacefully and do as little as possible...lol)

However, the free time that I do have is currently mostly spent on the computer...

The lion's share of my PC time is spent in creating online video games through the BYOND (http://www.byond.com) game creation system... Two of my biggest projects thus far are DBTC (A Dragonball Z fangame) (http://www.geocities.com/supersaiyangokux/DBTC) and Murder Mansion (http://www.geocities.com/supersaiyangokux/MMcaps.html)... Note that virtually all work on these games is my own handiwork... Including design, programming, and graphic work...

While working on that stuff, I surf the net in between (obviously)... My list of regularly visited sites includes the following:

BYOND.com (the developer forums, mostly)
BobAndGeorge.com (Mega Man sprite comic)
Sluggy.com ("Sluggy Freelance", and excellent online comic)
DragonballToys.com (I frequent the forums there as well)
NationStates.net and the forums (my most recent addition to the lineup)

I'm a wordy person (in text, anyways), and enjoy typing lengthy posts on the forums I visit, including this one... I also enjoyed debating/discussing various topics, like the ones that are hot around here...

As for non-computer hobbies, I have a few, but they've all taken a major backseat to this vile machine...lol

One of which is that I enjoy tinkering with LEGO... The only one of my creations which I have up on a page is my Voltron (http://www.geocities.com/supersaiyangokux/lego/voltronindex.html) model...

I'm also somewhat of an artist, and I enjoy sculpting things with Sculpey III polymer clay (mostly little animals and such, which I've actually done quite a bit of recently, since my fiancee asked me to make her a bunch of things to give her friends for Christmas), but unfortunately, I don't have any pictures to show...

I also enjoy drawing, even though I haven't taken time to sit down and do it in a long while... The only example of my work that I can show is a semi-recent fanart drawing of Brolly (http://www.geocities.com/supersaiyangokux/brollycontestpic.png), a DBZ movie character...

I also dabble in pixel art every now and then (outside of the 32x32 tiles used in my BYOND games)... Here's (http://www.geocities.com/supersaiyangokux/untitled.bmp) a set of TMNT pictures I drew in MS Paint at work a few weeks ago (long story... suffice it to say that I got stuck for a 12 hour shift sitting in front of a computer running tests on some of our finished product... this testing consisted of scanning a barcode, plugging in a wire, closing the test fixture, and wating for the next 2-3 minutes for the test to finish... gotta fill that waiting time somehow...lol)

I'm somewhat of a TV junkie, even though lately, all it consists of is having a TV on in the room while I'm sitting at the PC... I hear a lot of TV without actually watching it...lol

I also enjoy reading now and then... But only the major-title types of books from the Fantasy and Sci-Fi genres (like LoTR Trilogy, Dune series, Hitchhiker's Guide, etc)

I used to be an avid Magic: The Gathering collector and player, but after High School, I lost contact with most of my playing buddies, so my fairly large collection of cards is sitting on a shelf in plastic card boxes...

However, not all of my hobbies are as sedentary as the above list seems to suggest... I enjoy swimming (with a pool in the backyard, this is a must), bicycling, and the occasional game of backyard football... However, seeing as this is the middle of winter here, and we're currently buried under over a foot of snow, these things are on hold...lol And besides that, with my nocturnal sleep cycle, I'm often sleeping during most of the light hours of the day... So I don't get to these hobbies as often as I could even in the summer... But oh well, at least I get enough exercise at work (it's a factory job, operating a line of machines, which is about 25 paces long, which I have to walk up, down, and around for 12 hours a day...lol) to keep myself from turning into a blimp...lol

And, last but not least, as you've probably noticed by now, I've mentioned Dragonball Z a couple of times... I'm a huge fan... In fact, my NationStates name is an acronym for SuperSaiyanGokuX, which is the username I use on pretty much everything I sign up for on the net...

I also have a small DBZ collection (http://www.geocities.com/supersaiyangokux/roompics.html) which you'll either find incredibly impressive, or incredibly creepy and sad...lol But oh well, I've got the obsession mostly under control...lol

And that's a "short" list of my free-time hobbies!

Well, Dragonball Z (DBZ for short) is an anime (Japanese cartoon series) that was brought over to the U.S. in English dubbed form a few years back ('97-'98, somewhere in there... I was already "too old" to be watching cartoons, let alone collecting toys and stuff, but meh...)

I was instantly hooked, and have been a fan since...

All of that stuff is various action figures, posters, cards, etc from the show, which I've collected over the past 6-7 years (through eBay, in stores here, some online retailers, etc)...

The story is your average super hero, good vs evil, save the world/universe type of story... Goku, the main character, and strongest of the warriors, is an alien from a race of evil planet-pirating warriors called "Saiyans"... He was sent to Earth as a child to conquer it, but a bump on the head scrambled his memory, turning him into a good guy...

His life was spent in training his already super-human powers, and facing off against threats to the world... [In fact, DBZ is preceded by Dragonball (no "Z" suffix), which is the story of Goku's childhood and how he meets all of his friends, etc... but this series isn't as action-oriented as DBZ, so I prefer the latter], and as an adult in DBZ, he faces off against the universe's worst bad guys with the help of his allies (most of which are former bad guys, that have converted to the side of good through their meetings with Goku)

Now, to understand the scope of these guys' powers, think of Superman on steroids... Even the weakest of the DBZ fighters is stronger than Supes (this point is argued by Superman fans very adamantly, but the only thing any of them can counter it with is to bring up "Pre-Crisis" Superman, which is a lot more powerful than the more modern incarnations, but I still don't think can match the DBZ guys)

Anyways, I like it so much because I'm drawn to heroic stories such as this one... Plus, I really like a hero that can easily destroy pretty much anything he wants to, yet he's as gentle as they come (the Superman "boy scout" type of personality, but pushed even further)...

In those pictures, the guy you see the most often, in the orange uniform with the black, wildly spiked hair, is Goku, my favorite character (hence, my choice of username)...

Now, you see a guy who looks similar, but has blonde hair sticking straight up? That's Goku as well, only, he's transformed into "Super Saiyan" mode... This is a higher level of power, which the warriors break through to eventually... Which is where the "Super Saiyan Goku" part of my username comes from (the "X" is just in lieu of adding a string of numbers or whatever to the end to make it a unique username, as many people do)

There's much more involved, but that covers the basics...lol

Wow! Sounds like you're well and truly hooked on DBZ. Heh!

I've been considering buying an X-Box so I can play Halo2 with my sons whenever they're on, but that's about the only concession I'm making to online games, etc. I've been known to play The Conquerors, and back when it first came out, Alpha Centauri, but I tend to lose interest fairly quickly. Oh yeah ... I played Diablo until my character got to such a high level that he could kill Diablo with his bare hands. Heh!

I think so too. I keep hoping they'll come out with a "new, improved" version, but nothing so far. I loved that the different "nations" were based on ideology rather than geography or economics, etc. All other things being equal, the nation first to develop the Space Elevator usually won the game. :)
