Least-favorite NFL teams

Reason and Reality
08-12-2004, 19:27
List your least-favorite NFL teams here--don't need to put down reasons or anything, but you can if you want.

For added fun, see if you can guess someone's FAVORITE team from his list of least-favorite teams--for this I'd suggest you not put down reasons at all just so you don't say anything that might give it away too easily.

Mine are:
New England
Jacksonville
Kansas City
Denver

By "go play rugby", do you mean you're going to sit in front of your computer and badmouth a sport you haven't played and probably couldn't handle to people you've never seen, while secretly wishing you were man enough to play either sport?

First of all, they've got ugly uniforms, obnoxious fans and since they're from New York, they get way more hype than they deserve. You could put the Giants in that category too.

Least Favorite NFL team

All of them.

Any sport where you can go from first, to worst in one year, it sucks.

Dynasties are better. Hell, they are American. And when someone beats a dynasty it means something. The Patriots are the closest thing the NFL has had to a dynasty since the old 49'ers or Cowboys and in the middle of their Super Bowl seasons they didn't even make the playoffs.

And anyone who gives that crap arguement, about fair play, equal playing fields, blah, blah, blah...show me that in real life and I'll take heed to it. When Bill Gates can spend as much money as I can and absolutetly no more, that's when I will believe in football again.

The last real American sport left is baseball. And even though I am a Yankee fan, and as much as it sucked that Boston finally won a World Series title (and any of you out there that are Boston fans, you have to spend the next three decades straight playing catch up before you can even be mentioned in the same sentence as the Yankees) it meant something because they beat the Yankees, and the Cardinals, two of the most storied franchises in that sport's history. Can you imagine the Red Sox beating the Devil Rays in the ALCS? Then beating the Brewers in the WS? Come on now, 12 people outside of the Boston area would have watched those games.

But football...it all went downhill when they implimented the salary cap. Now you've got parody. And parody can only stay popular for so long. Nobody remembers the spin off of a hit TV series if you know what I mean. The Super Bowl used to mean something. You used to be able to debate over who was the best team, and you used to have real rivalries that fans could be passionate about. What's the NFL's greatest rivalry? Bears/Packers? Cowboys/Giants? Cowboys/Redskins? Cowboys/49'ers? Bills/Dolphins? When is the last time a rivarly game actually meant something?
Ogiek

You want a sport that has lost its rivalries, look to the NBA. There used to be great rivalries: The Lakers and Celtics, Celtics and Knicks, Knicks and Bulls, Bulls and Pistons.

Now there are virtually no rivalries in basketball. They have turned it into such an individual's sport that people pratically don't follw teams anymore, but rather players (I think fantasy football is doing the same to the NFL).

Rivalries make a sport.

NFL doesn't live and die with those damn Packers. I'm sick of hearing how great Brett Farve is and this and that. They are overrated but I don't really care because in the end, Minnesota will win the division.

The importance of the Packers has nothing to do with how they are doing from one year to the next or their won-lose record. The Packers are important because they, along with the Chicago Bears (then the Stanleys), are one of the original teams to help found the NFL in 1922. They are also important because they are a big league team in a tiny little town and are actually owned by over 111,000 shareholders. The Packers are the promise of what major league sports could, and should, be - a team with history, tradition, and a connection to place that cannot be severed because some greedy owner gets a better stadium deal in another city.

I'm a Buffalo Bills fan, but to me the Packers represent the best in NFL football.

Those two television spin-offs that you listed, Frasier and Trapper John M.D., I can honestly say that I have seen neither one of them, and the only reason I know that Frasier came from Cheers is that I used to watch Cheers as a kid. But this is also coming from someone who thinks that television for the most part sucks, and has sucked for a long time.

And yes, basketball is beyond repair. Their is no concept of team. There is no concept of anything aside from maybe who can dunk a basketball better. I stopped watching basketball when Jordan hit that shot against Utah. Ever since then, IMO, it's tanked.

The NBA sucks ass, however, David Stern is making a step in the right direction with suspending Artest for the rest of the year. The NBA is a joke, EPSN and the NBA have seen to it by promoting the garbage highlights, taking all concept of team effort and shitting on it. Hell, they made LeBron James a star before he even took his first shot in the NBA, it's garbage.

David Stern fixing the NBA?

He's the one that sent it in a tailspin in the first place by promoting these players, and the individuality that they bring, as being the marquee guys. Now a fight breaks out and he throws the book at the players and tries to play coy like he doesn't know how this happened?

As for making LeBron James a star before he even took his first shot. The guy was a star all by himself. And the league should do everything to get behind him and run with all of their might. He's unselfish. He's a team guy. And on top of all of that, he's better at 19 years old then everyone else in the league. And there are no indications of him being the type of cancer that David Stern has spent the last half decade promoting as the poster boys of the NBA. Iverson. Spreewell. Kobe. The entire Trailblazers team. Artest. The list goes on and on...

*puts on his custom made Raider jersey*

I'm new also, I have my little bio up on the thread for Nation bios. Hi all.

Least favorite teams:
Broncos - because, well, they're the Broncos
Cowboys - Jimmy Johnson & Michael Irvin basically spawned my hatred, mainly because I despised the Miami Hurricanes in college ball, and Jerry Jones just seems like an asshat to me

Yeah, the NFL sucks.

It sucks that fans of all 32 teams can begin each season excited because this really might be their year.

It sucks that we can't confidently predict the Super Bowl participants every year from a field of about 5.

It sucks that the regular season actually means something, rather than just being a way to establish which of the elite teams gets home-field advantage for the championship game.

It sucks that teams can't buy championships and suck the best talent from other teams who simply can't afford them.

It sucks that we can't look down our noses on the fans of the Bengals/Chargers/Texans as perennial losers even before the first game of the season begins.

It sucks that an expansion team can actually be competitive less than 20 years after their inception, and not serve as 2 easy wins each year for their division rivals.

Yeah the NFL sucks, all right. Give me baseball any day (*YAWN*).

How odd to dislike all 4 teams in a single division. Did the AFC West rain on your party in Vegas???

Perhaps odd. But I've grown up surrounded my Chiefs fans and I just can't stand them.

As far as the other teams. I've never liked the Raiders and Broncos I found their fans to be rude, and the Raiders jerseys are horrible. And I disliked the Chargers mainly because of Junior Seau, but I don't even think he plays for them anymore, heh.

And actually I didn't know they were all from the same division until I looked it up, heh....
