On CNN today, there was an article about a Nativity Scene set up in some wax museum in London. Joseph and Mary are represented by David Beckham and Posh Spice, the three wise men are Tony Blair, George W. Bush, and the Duke of Edinburgh, and the shepards are Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Grant, and Graham Norton. Kylie Minogue is the angel, and I can't tell who baby Jesus is. Perhaps Haley Joel Osment?
Apparently, a lot of people are pissed about this, and say it isn't right. Personally, I hope it is a piece of satire, just because it would be a good way to represent how commercialized Christmas has become. Other than that, the only real problem I see is Tony Blair and George Bush being part of the Three Wise men.
My only question is, we represent the Nativity Scene any time a church puts on a play, and I'm sure there are those out there that have played baby Jesus. Why is it wrong when it is represented by celebrities? Heck, even a S'more can be baby Jesus!

Anyone else not really suprised or offended by this? It certainly has been going down this road for a while.

We Britishers used to believe Blair to be a fairly wise leader.
We don't now.
For those of you who live in America, the phrase "arse-kissing" is used a lot, as is "poodle".
It seems… odd… but not sacreligious; not really so.

Hilarious nativity scene and no, it's not sacreligious. I like Bush and Blair, but seeing them in the nativity scene is funny, lol

How about doing a nativity scene with notorious serial killers. If you are going to blaspheme, go all the way.

Alas, our stupid politicians tend to bring out the stupid in other politicians.
For what it's worth, we appologize for making you feel less content in the world. I'd like to say you'll get used to it, but we still aren't...

I bet any money that the vatican's only problem with this nativity scene is Graham Norton as one of the shepards. The vatican source is quoted as saying, "You cannot use contemporary personalities as the central figures of the Nativity ... And it becomes worse, if that were possible, if the people may be of questionable moral standing,". Stick in Mel Gibson, and I bet they would applause the scene.

This is totally stupid. What better way of making these arrogant idiots (which is what all of them are) continue to feel divine than to portray them as witnesses to the birth of a holy prophet. This isn't modernism, this is tackiness.

Whee. Censorship.
At least this time it wasn't meant as a compliment, as it was with that elephant dung Knocked-up-by-a-beam-of-light-out-of-wedlock Mary.

No, this is the kid from 6th Sense and A.I. He's fairly creepy as far as kids go.

No, I mean wouldn't that be a good idea? He still looks like a small child. Not an awful lot like Jesus, though.
