"good vodka" is a contradiction in terms.

Well, better quality then. Anyway...they managed to make a bottle of super cheap stuff taste as good, or bettter, than Ketel One. I am impressed anyway.

Not ten millions brita filters could ever make any kind of vodka taste anywhere near as good as single malt scotch.

But vodka doesn't have a taste...
But vodka doesn't have a taste...
That's the way it should be, and that's how I, for one, like it. Scotch, by comparison, does, and I for one think it tastes foul. Since I have a Brita pitcher, I know what I'll be doing with my next cheap handle of Bartons.

Actually, really good vodka is a treat. It goes down smooth, and you wouldn't dream of mixing it with something to cut the taste, like you do with cheap vodka. You just stick it in the freezer and drink it ice cold.

Yup. The average scotch is a lot cheaper than really good vodka though. I'd definitely rather buy a cheap scotch than a cheap vodka.

Thanks for the info! I will have to try it sometime. Don't know if I would trust the brita method for shots or straight sipping, but it might save me a bit of money if make mixed drinks made with cheap vodka more palatable.

I like the mission statement...
We’re working on more half assed applications of second rate science for the practical slacker as we speak.
Putting vodka from the freezer into a 'waterpipe' is also pretty quality, but everyone who needs to know knows that.....

The only reason to ever drink cheap vodka is if you are a homeless russian dying of hypothermia and you want your last moments of life to be ever so slightly less miserable. If you want to get really drunk for cheap just drink as much of a box of wine as you can stomach before puking and you will probably have a ever so slightly less pounding headache the next day and besides cheap wine tastes a hell of a lot better than cheap vodka.

orange twist vodka. Yum and yuck in the same mouthful. I can still taste it in my mouth after a month just by thinking about it. Ugh.

Cold anything is bad, warm water actually removes more carcinogens (sp?) and leaves more of what you want. I know it goes against popular practice but trust an old hand. ;)

Also very dangerous, since alcohol is not meant to be absorbed by the fastest method the body is capable of (that being respiratory absorption). Just a side note from our psychopharm professor...

Actually, only cheap wine ever gives me headaches or hangovers (well, once or twice, I get hangovers once in two blue moons). I recommend Lambrusco Celia for cheap red wine - very tasty, none of the sleepiness, etc. My friends and I are partial to Lambruska, though...Lambrusco Reunite spiked with vodka. The Reunite has a slightly heaviler taste than the Celia, making it the better mixer. It covers the vodka taste quite well in a large quantity, and we usually use Fleischman's, at best.
I happen to be a vodka fan... but damn, bad vodka really is fucking horrible! All of the lime in the world could not save a bottle of HRD. If I didn't value my Brita as much as I do, or if I cared to consent to purchasing HRD to begin with, I'd test this theory. If it did work well enough, I'd then find a way to buy Britas in bulk and sell them for a higher profit to college freshmen... I'd be a millionare I say!

I though we weren't meant to absorb very much alchohol at all (or do bongs for that matter) :) Plus, I've heard of Welsh kids mainlining it. That can't be healthy..

Mostly it's just because it can get colder than water......(why we do it that way, that is-not the mainlining it.....I quoted the wrong post I think......)

I would think that as well. However, I recently read in a restaurant/bar trade magazine that some Europeans have developed a contraption that vaporizes the alcohol to it can be inhaled. Apparantly it's becoming all the rage in London. Can any Brits testify to this?

Yes, I meant that as in, "you ought not to, because it is a far more rapid means by which to intake alcohol than one would think, or possibly even control." Alcohol is pretty damn dangerous, but people treat it rather lightly, so I posted a sidenote on why that mode is not so good.

Of course mate, I wasn't trying to argue the point especially as you're a far higher authority on the matter. I was just being facetious, and sort of agreeing with you at the same time.
Still, the thing about shooting up Vodka is pretty scary - I'll try to find an article if I can.

A blend of whiskies is only acceptable if all the whiskies blended together are single malts of particularly fine quality.
Like Johnnie Walker Blue Label.

Yeah, I just realized that was a bad choice of words, so I clarified.
Shooting alcohol would be pretty intense...since it's a poison, you'd have to get it just right. What, they can't drink it fast enough or something? As fast as alcohol can hit you the usual ways, and with the horrible sensations that follow when it does even a little too much (I spent a few nights on a cold tile floor with those sensations), I can't even think of why you'd want to shoot it. If you find an article, maybe it could shed some light on that.

I honestly can't taste much a difference between, say, Karkov or something like Absolut. It's got that great aftertaste that says, "Yeah, buddy, it's working."

Since the subject has been brought up, here's some of what I found on intravenous alcohol. Sounds like it's mainly limited to alcoholics and hospitals, so I'd say bad idea.
