Has Iraq's Civil War begun?
The blood of the 1,273 American and countless Iraqis dead is on George W. Bush' hands. The body count grows faster and higher and there is still no plan to stabilize the country and get the U.S. out.
Now the question is: Has civil war begun?
Mayhem in Iraq Is Starting to Look Like a Civil War

AGHDAD — Common wisdom holds that if American troops withdraw anytime soon, Iraq will descend into civil war, as Lebanon did in the late 1970's. But that ignores a question posed by events of recent weeks:
Has a civil war already begun?

Its hard to believe that iraq won't fall into civil war.
Even if the january elections go well (which is very, very, very doubtful), Iraq as no democratic traditions. Its quite likely that the losing parties wont accept the winner legitemacy, even if its some unifying religious zealot: The thing is, the Shias wont accept a shiite leader, and since shiites are 80% or something of the population, it is likely that it will be one of them to be elected. And even many of those that have chances to win, have little credibility next to the people, since many left the country, having returned only recently. The people of iraq dont know these man, and/or may associate them with the US invaders. We are then left with men like al sadr, which though unifying, are total nut cases. They may turn Iraq into another iran.
Well, at least the Kurds are having the time of their life.
Or the US may play a stunt, by supporting a candidate that wins, but obtains no popular support (if by any chance, the elections arent recognized as free and fair, or even if a large minority, like the shias, dont accept the result). Then, it will be supporting a de facto dictator.

The problem with the Iraqi elections is, the wishes of the majority of the people are rather inconvenient for the occupying powers. It is going to be a tricky thing to reconcile, the people's desires and Western strategic expediency.

Actually, it would be nice for the US to have an anti-us candidate to win, and then asking them to leave: It would be a great excuse to leave Iraq.
OFFCOURSE.. the anti-US candidates are also the extreme religious zealots.. :p

How's that?
 Flamebait trash.
No, flamebait trash would have been if I made reference to that coke-head AWOL coward, with the blood of 1,273 Americans on his hands, never even bothering to attend the funeral of ONE of the kids he has killed.
I think Iraq was left with some kind of democracy after this, not that it ended up too well for them.. funny feeling of deja vu coming up:

search for the word 'election' in this page, all sounds horribly familiar doesn't it? I don't suppose Bush or his administration ever read any history so it's not suprising that they have no concept of history repeating itself.
