Why do we care?

Texan Hotrodders

Does anybody else ever wonder why we care enough to post here? Do we even care? Is it that we like to make other people look bad so that we feel better about ourselves? Do we simply enjoy the anonymity and social interaction of the forum? Do we honestly think we can be of use to others and aid in their critical thinking? Do we just like to post because we have little else to do?

So what do y'all think?

Well, I originally got drawn into the forums by the debates (mainly the endless evolution, abortion, and gay marriage ones). Then I burned myself out to the point I couldn't debate anymore and started playing around in the spammy joke threads.

Now I stay because of the people I've come across in the two different types of threads. The amazingly good debaters, and the wacky amusing spamming people (good spam, that is, not the bad kind... if that makes sense :p ). I need to stay because I am a fangirl, and us fangirls have a responsibility to support and entertain our idols :D.

Oh, and I also stay because the NS forums is where Sdaeriji and Myrth are. Can't forget that. Well, actually, I should really leave that out, because it's not actually a major point (since I talk to Sdaeriji off the forums anyway...) but I'm waiting to see which one starts worrying about being stalked first, you see. Because I'm strange. And haven't had my daily cup of suga... I mean, coke cola... yet.

Though I guess the underlining pattern is that I have way, wayyy too much time on my hands.

In some cases it's all about running ideas by other people.

In other cases it's all about winning.

In all cases it gives me a chance to sharpen my debating skills.

Also a great waste of time. :-)

1) I have no life
2) It gives me something to do while I train my jedi powers (see 1)
3) I like to argue (see 1)

See now that just opens up a whole new set of questions.

Why does an alcoholic drink?

A. Self-medication/painkilling
B. Genetic predisposition
C. Both A and B

So are you suggesting that it is the equivalent of A,B, or C?

Quite honestly, I am here because I have nothing better to do with my time this morning while I wait for my bus. Now I shall include a silly emot to finish this post off. :gundge:

No, I don't mean "why is an alcoholic an alcoholic?", I mean why does an alcoholic drink? The answer is: because he is an alcoholic.

We are NationStates posters. Why do we post? Because we are NationStates posters. If we ceased to post, we would cease to be, and you would cease to have the ability to ask the question, because there would be no-one left to ask. To put it simply, someone has to do it.

What your question might have been was: "why do you post?"

My answer is: to waste the time of anyone stupid enough to read what I write.

I like to learn what other people think and often I take away things I didn't know.

I also like to correct other people's misled opinions. ;)

I care enough to post in this thread. However, right now, I can't care to think about what to post. I care, though. I'm just not sure what I care about.

No, I don't mean "why is an alcoholic an alcoholic?", I mean why does an alcoholic drink? The answer is: because he is an alcoholic.

It's a bit more complicated than that. I might ask, "Why does a killer kill?" Now a killer does not kill simply because he is a killer, it's quite different actually. A person is labelled a killer because they perform the act of killing. The label we apply to the person performing the behavior is irrelevant to the root cause of that behavior.

My answer is: to waste the time of anyone stupid enough to read what I write.

Now that's a good answer.

I'll go along with that, but also, because I research and try to back up my points with facts, I often end up learning a little something about different topics that I otherwise might not bother with.

I usually post here for the social interactions when I have noone else to talk to in person (i.e. late at night). You can see that I rarely get involved in politcal/religious/abortion debates. I feel like I will not change anyone's mind with my stupid opinions there.
