On a scale of 1 to 7, one being the most liberal, 7 the most conservative, where would you rank yourself? i'm probably a 2 or a 3--a moderate democrat.

Should have done it like the PH scale ... 14 with 7 being the midpoint

I would say on a scale of 1-7 I am a 3 (depending on the topic) MAYBE a 2 on some things

I wanted to do 1 to 10, but the maximum number of options IS 10, and then I couldn't have included libertarians and authoritarians

I'd say a 5, maybe 4 because I'm fiscally Conservative, although still quite socially Liberal.

hard to say. i'm all for bush's policy of not bending over backwards to please every other country in the world, and i tend to be more pro-life, but i do believe in taxes.

don't vote for me ever. i'd be like the politician from hell. ;)

so prob a 4 or 5

what a bizarre combination. I've heard worse though. My friend likes pre-emptive policy, but is a staunch gun-hater. He likes low taxes, but is in favor of gay marriage. I don't get him

Your poll is fundamentally flawed. Visit politicalcompass.org to see why. You will se that in the overall scheme of history and world politics right now, liberal dems. are on the right overall. They are only on the left in the US. It is slightly less flawed due tho the fact that you have a category for authoritarians and libretarians, but still, that part is flawed. Nevertheless, I will vote anywhere from 1 to 3 (unsure yet).

Depending on the definition of the words liberal and conservative, I'm either a 7 (using the American definition on a world scale) or somewhere lower when using other definitions.

I know that British and American political maps are different in the left-right scale. That is why I asked for how LIBERAL one is, not how far left or right they are. It is impossible to do a 2-dimensional poll using only text, so I did the best I could.

Would a 7 in Britain be different than one in America? Are Britons generally more moderate or extreme in their views? Ugh, this is why we hould start using the metric system.

A 7 in Britain would probably be less in the US. But the definition of liberal in Britain might be different than the one used in the US. I know in the some of my stances (less taxes, less gov't) would be considered Conservative, where as in many other countries such free-market stances would be defined as liberal.

Economic: 5
Social: 1
Justice: 3
Military: 5
Taxes: 1

i dont think this scale is very representitive

it has no place for people looking for serious reform to major governmental institutions

Want to know exactly where you stand?

Take this:

It won't take too long and even comes with a nice graph.

The US is widely regarded as the most conservative of the Western nations.

I voted for extreme liberal (1), as I have many extreme liberal views, though I'm beginning to think the word "liberal" may also have other connotations now that don't apply to me. I wouldn't describe myself as a strict libertarian, however. Perhaps "socially libertarian".

This quiz is incredibly inaccurate. It is on a libertarian web page and the questions are intentionally designed to make you tilt towrds libertarianism. Go here (http://quiz.ontheissues.org/Quiz.htm)

I put 1, but if an American Democrat is in the 2-3 range, I would be in the negatives...

Politicalcompass.org has done a good job, but lately I've been wondering if there are actually 3 axes, not 2.

Namely, foreign policy.

There are socialist liberals who are for agressive military action.

And there are capitalist authoritarians who are against any non-self defense military action at all.

Is supporting agressive military action "liberal" or "conservative"? Lately, it seems the self-described coservatives have been in favor of it, with self-descrived liberals against it. But then you have paleo-conservatives like Pat Buchanan who are vehemently against the Iraq War, as well as numerous tax-loving liberals strongly in favor of the war. Pacifism versus hawkishness is not necessarily "right" or "left".

A 3 dimensional political graph may soon be necessary.

I'm a 2.

Very liberal as a whole, but there are some things I am quite conservative on. Nothing comes to mind yet, but I'll think of something. I have before.

This poll is a wonderful example of how the NS general forum population is so skewed politically as compared to everyone else. In the real world, you typically would get a bell curve, with most people being three or four, instead, we get larger numbers on the end.

We also have a disproportionate number of libertarians.

I've noticed this on practically every forum I've been to. I believe liberals and libertarians (especially) are just drawn to political forums more than conservatives.

And also, I believe the U.S. is overall more conservative than Canada, Europe, and Australia.

So what counts for a 2 in America is probably a 4 or 5 in the Netherlands, for instance.

I'd say 2 because while I believe in political and civil freedoms and rights, I also believe that we have to have laws that govern us. Without that it'd be total anarchy.
