Something has happened to my desktop, it has like changed to an HTML document and there is no way to get it off. I went ctrl alt delte and ended the explorer.exe process and the regular background returned but all my icons and my start menu vanished. What do I do!? Any help at all would be great.

Hmm .. have you tried system restore ?

or do you not have a start bar ?

put your windows CD in the drive and boot from that

System Restore didnt work

Slap your genitals against it

Go to Control panel -> Display

Click on Desktop Tab

Then the Customize Desktop button

Click on the Web tab

Select the webpage and hit Delete.

This will work for Win2k and XP....for other versions disable Active Desktop.

The icons, were they scattered all over the desktop, or were they all down one or two sides?

If they were on one or two sides, try adjusting the resolution, V-Alignment and H-Alignment.
