I'm Sorry but it has to be Eddie Izzard

Eddie Izzard can be brilliant at times, but sometimes he's a bit crap.
I prefer Bill Bailey.

I've heard Eddie Izzard and he's a mix of blindingly hilarious and oddly dull.

No, but my mum wants it for Christmas, so I'll probably be buying it for her then borrowing it as soon as possible.

I do like some of Eddie Izzard's stuff, btw. Especially his description of why they have the fresh fruit section near the entrance of supermarkets...

90% of Monty Python's stuff is better than anything else before or since. The other 10% is crap. That's why I love it so and shall plug for it.

Friends, I never got myself. Sorry.

The first few series of Red Dwarf were brilliant, but it did get pretty bad towards the end.

Black Books is, and was, genius. Almost as good as Spaced.

Monty Python, is the best comedy ive ever seen, they started the comedy craze off plus they were doing most of their stuff for the first time.

I would add Dead Ringers onto the list.

Dead Ringers is nowhere near the level of most of the stuff mentioned here.

Black Books for me.

Bill Hicks was the greatest comic genius that ever lived.

If we're talking sitcoms:

The Young Ones
Blackadder
Red Dwarf

And friends is like the nosebleed of comedy: it's rather annoying, and you wish it would stop, but it just keeps on coming.

I think its fairly certain Monty Python's Flying Circus is going to win best alternative comedy. It Just has so many classic sketches. Its amazing the comedy has stayed so fresh for so long.

Blackadder looks like it might get best sit-com although it has some stiff competition.

Yes minister looks like best political but I'm suprised that no american political comedies have come up. Its much of a farse it barly needs writing.

Best stand ups a bit too uncertain.

I doubt we're ever going to get any kind of consensus over what is the best comedy, even if we split it into categories.
Why don't we change the thread a bit and just suggest great comedies? You know, have a list of really good comedies in each category, rather than sayng "this comedy is the best, period".

The all time greatest comedy series is was ever shall be "the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy" the radio program. It is a classic example of a show working perfectly in its own original medium being spoiled when it moved medium. The books were good but they dont even come close to the hilarity that the original two radio shows brought. I dont think anything like them had ever been tried before and I think they lead the way for radio comedy that came after. I say 1 episoed of the tv adaptation and refused to watch any more as it would have spoiled the magic. I can only suggest that before you cast your vote you listen to a copy, its great.

Otherwise yes black adder and eddie izzard
