"Area 51"

A TV movie on the TLC channel.

It was so controversial that the Anti-Terrorism Task Force raided one of the reporters on the show's house, and took his flat pannel moniter and all his computer hard drives for "evidence".

It exposed that the US tested MiGs and other stolen technology from the Russians during the Cold War against US technology in war games there.

It was funny to see them literarly sitting on the border of the base with a bunch of guards in a SUV watching ontop of a hill with face protection so that they could not identify any of the guards.

maybe not a controversial issue, but one that sure needs adressing: the south park movie.
Take another look at it, at the lyrics of the songs, its not too hard to see how its about parents facing that, when things go wrong, entertainment is not to blame. The kids and the parents are ususally to blame and the whole movie is about that.

This one is probably older than most of the posters here, but it's still a great film--Network, starring Albert Finney. It's all about the news media and the lengths to which they will go to get ratings.

Another film--a bit pedantic, but I still liked it--that deals with the manufactured candidate is Bob Roberts, written by and starring Tim Robbins. It's certainly worth seeing.

Did you? I wasn't impressed. It certainly deals with a controversial subject--high school violence--but it seemed to hit every possible cliche with jackhammer intensity. The self-loathing gay, neo-nazi teenager killers, the bulimic popular girls, the gay, sensitive photographer kid--after about twenty minutes I was just wondering which stereotype the director would pull out next. It got great reviews, but I never understood why.

Schindlers List, for the holocaust portrayal. Spielbergs only film in which he portrayed Jewish life. A must-see, it really made people understand the holocaust in the way that stories never could.

A Clockwork Orange deals with some very deep questions-
Are human beings intrisically bad?
Is it better to be evil than to have no free will?
Is it justifiable to try and kill a killer?
Is it the government's duty to control behaviour?
Duckutopia

A second thought- controversy? MidNight Cowboy, Last Tango in Paris, and...well I just don't "get it". Why is nudity/sex worse than violence in the judeo/christian culture?

Can you call Minority Report contraversial?

Though I hated the movie itself, the controversy I picked up from it was the whole concept of 'Precrime' and basically how it is an rather large invasion of privacy, and then the whole 'slippery slope' argument of then the government becoming totalitarian

(sorry, my apostrophe button is broken)

It,s my party - assisted suicides
Gattaca - Genetic engineering
The Handmaid,s tale - personal freedoms

And I completely agree with the choice of {In the name of the Father}...the fact that it is based on a real story, and it relevant in the shadow of Post-9/11...scary (Canadian examples: Mahar Arar, William Sampson, et al.)

The Celebration

A Lars von Trier film about a father who sexually abused his children when they were young and how one of his sons openly confronts him about it years later at the fathers birthday party in front of all the guests. It also deals with racism as well when one of the daughters arrives at the party with a black man and some of the guests openly voice their opinions about him the...but thats a minor part of the movie.

btgd was so friggin boring though, it may have been the first mainstream porn film but it illustrated why porn can never really go mainstream. it exists to fascilitate masterbation, if that's not what you are using it for its always tedious amaturish badly acted crap.

Maybe, but it doesn't really show the whole story. For example how Schindler massively exploited the Jews by forcing them to work for him in return for helping them.

American History X - Neo Nazi-ism and modern racism.

One of the best films ever made. 'Nuff said.
