Normally, I try to stick with Black Velvet if I'm drinking Canadian, although I'm currently drinking some Crown Royal(the Velvet is MUCH better). If I'm drinking bourbon, usually JD or Jimmy Beam. Had some Old Granddad the other week that did wonders for a sore throat (which is why I bought the Crown). Southern Comfort, like most liquor, is OK if you stay away from the stuff they sell in grocery stores. As for the European side of the pond, I've not had very much whiskey from there. 1 sample bottle each of Chivas and Curvoisier(sp?). Both were pretty good, as I recall. I'll not even try to describe the cheap scotch I tried...

Never tried Porero. Should I?If you can find it. It's from a very small distillery in San Francisco, located in the brewery where I work. They've only been distilling since 1993, and it's only distributed in a few major cities for now, but I think you can go to the Anchor Brewing website (http://anchorbrewing.com) and find a link to the distillery, and you may be able to purchase it there. It's a bit pricey, but it's damn good.

Isle of Jura is the best whisky I've tasted in my very limited experience. I'll be noting down the others mentioned which I haven't tried (ie most of them except Glenmorangie and Orkey Isles which was too bitter for my taste). I'm currently most of the way through a bottle of Aberlour. It's damn fine, similar to Isle of Jura in many ways, but that could just be because my perception is somewhat skewed; living in a medium sized Chinese city single malt isn't exactly abundant and what there is costs about a quarter of my monthly wages. I think I'll start rationing soon.
Oh, and I'd like to make the modest suggestion that anyone who proposes any bourbons or ryes be shot. It's modest in the sense that my first instinct was slow hanging. Those who propose Irish whiskies may get away with a light whipping.
