The religious views about Hermaphrodism

I grow tired of people saying that Homosexualism and similar issues are "unnatural" or "God made us" or "God intended to"

So, I'm very curious what the Church nad other religions have to say about Hermaphrodism, where a person has sex organs and other signs of both genders and are capable of both giving birth to a baby or being father to one.

Should they be forcefully "cured", live in celibacy or do the obvious thing "God intended", which is to choose to have sexual intercourse with any or both genders?

Obviously it is a sin to be born a hermaphrodite.

It took them three hundred and seventy-nine years to get over Copernicus.
Over time social pressures will take their toll and they'll be forced to change their views.

Really? God, I hope not...

Actually, it didn't say anything in the Scriptures about the Earth being flat, it was just the pride of the priests. Whereas it does state specifically in the Bible about homosexual acts, so we might not get over that one. It doesn't seem to say anything about hermaphrodites though… hard times ahead….

Somebody's probably already pointed this out, but hermaphrodites are almost without exception sterile. They are also almost without exception impotent and frigid at the same time. They are not capable of fathering a baby or giving birth to one, due to the fact that neither set of reproductive organs is fully developed.

None of which of course would prevent a hermaphrodite from choosing to have sexual intercourse with any or both genders, except for this supposed frigidity.

I had not heard that hermaphrodites were almost without exception frigid before reading this. Excuse me for doubting the veracity of this claim.

let's minimize the mocking until we can get an answer as to why.

Oh, bloody hell, read the Lancet, for crying out loud. If you want to doubt, then check it out. There are a great many sources, all of them very reliable medical journals, that back up the fact that most hermaphrodites do not have fully or even partly functional sexual organs. Some do, but the vast majority do not.

tell that to chimerics born with both sets of working sex organs.

also, i don't see what being "frigid" has to do with anything.

i also don't see hwo this preculdes them from having sex (being unable to reproduce)

Does it really matter what the religious views are?

If God is omnipontent, he wouldn't have brought these people into existence;

Either that or some "miracle" would have occured where they suddenly weren't hermaphrodites anymore.

I didn't say that it never happened, but it's very very rare.

by that logic god wouldn't make gay people or people who want/need abortions. Which apparently are both sins

Chances are in most Christian communities they just 'modify' the kid at birth and never tell them. Doctors sometimes do this without even informing the parents.

I'm not sure if they even acknowledge the existance of other than Adam and Eve replicas in your average church. They're probably judged as being some sort of sin-creature.

It's usually done with the best of intentions, but god can it be devastating to both the child and the parents when the wrong choice is made.

Imagine being raised as a boy, but never feeling right that way. Getting treatment to fix a 'hormone imbalance'. Finally after great deal of depression, giving up and deciding that you're a transsexual.

Then, due to something you never expected, learning that you have a underdeveloped uterus.

Having to come to terms with your doctor hiding this from you. That he 'lost' your medical records when you turned 18 and you can't find those important details. Having your parents feel guilty that they made a choice that caused their child that much pain.

My family hasn't recovered from it.

Far, far too common a story, unfortunately. Oh for a society that actually accepts people for who they are, instead of trying to jam them in to one role or another.

Doctors did modify hermaphrodite babies with the best of intentions. They felt that society had a lot of trouble accepting them the way they were, so they decided that parents should choose which they felt the baby should grow up as. It was under the assumption that it would give the child a gender identity that they would not otherwise have if nature were allowed to take its course.

It's sad that it has failed so far, and caused as much grief as it has.
