Let's play... The Blame Game!

Our "experts" all seem to have a different reason as to why so much of America's youths are becoming "screwed-up". They've blamed comics, rock music, video games, movies, the media, the break up of the family, lack of education... and the list goes on and on.
My question is simple: What do you think is the reason why America's children are becoming "more violent"?
I think that it's stress. Life is so hectic in this modern age that, sometimes, we just break down and totally lose it. That's my opinion.

OK, here's what I think: It's parent's fault. For lack of proper parenting and discipline. Today's "parents" want everyone else to parent their kids...everyone from the public schools, to government, to churches, etc. They don't want to actually parent their kids.
Maybe they are afraid to discipline their kids in this day and age, because of the evermeddlesome folks at Child Protective Services (what a fuckin joke these people are...they punish good parents, and so often, the really BAD ones go under CPS's radar...)
Too many parents today don't seem to want the responsibility of actually raising thier own children. And kids push and push to see how far they can go. It is the nature of the teen years, to test the limits. And if no limits are set, which is too often the case, you end up with teenage hooligans and thugs and criminals running the streets, with no respect for themselves, others, or the law. Because too often, kids today are not made to face the punsihment for the actions they commit.
My opinion: the reason is because no one is willing to hold anyone accountable for jack-shit anymore. Hell, when I was a kid, if I fucked up...I'd better HOPE the cops got to me before my folks did...I'd be safer in jail! My folks had no qualms about kicking my ass if I got out of line. And that is what a lot of these teen hooligans need and never have gotten...a good, swift kick in the ass.
I blame Bush.
Right. Because the youth of America wasn't screwed up before that? *scoff* Sure.
I think stress is a pretty good reason, but there really is no ONE answer to this question because soooooo many things contribute to the breakdown of America's youth.

let me start by saying that i think the vast majority of todays kids are just FINE. the problems are exaggerated. we focus on the bad kids instead of the good ones.
so whats to blame for the bad ones? i do think its parenting. the parents of todays kids were raised badly themselves. raised to take the easy way out. raised to think that being LIKED is most important.
so when it came to raising THEIR kids, they couldnt bear to hurt little johnny's feelings, couldnt BEAR the thought that johnny might not be the best, couldnt bear it when johnny was mad at them for not letting him do and have everything he wanted, couldnt bear to take the TIME to do things right.
after all if its VIDEO GAMES, then its johnny's parents fault for letting him play them, if its bad food, johnny's parents fed it to him, if its bad friends, johnny's parents let him play with them.

I blame the censors and the child protection agencies.
If you can't give a brat a smack upside the head, it'll grow up fucked up.
Censors are making matters worse because they are warping the "world" view of the kids.

To those who want to know the REAL problem with today's youth...the bad ones, anyway...I suggest listening to the song "Johnny Can't Read" by Don Henley.
Football, baseball, basketball games
Drinkin’ beer, kickin’ ass and takin’ down names
With the top down, get-a-round, shootin’ the line
Summer is here and Johnny’s feelin’ fine
But Johnny can’t read
Summer is over and he’s gone to seed
Johnny can’t read
He never learned nothin’ that he’ll ever need
Well, Johnny can dance, Johnny can love
Johnny can push and Johnny can shove
Johnny can hang out; Johnny can talk tough
Johnny can get down and Johnny can throw up
But Johnny can’t read
Summer is over and he’s gone to seed
(you know that), Johnny can’t read
He never learned nothin’ that he’ll ever need
Well, is it teacher’s fault? oh no!
Is it mommy’s fault? oh no!
Is it society’s fault? oh no!
Well is it Johnny’s fault? ohhhhh nooooo!
Couple years later, Johnny’s on the run
Johnny got confused and he bought himself a gun
Well, he went and did something that he shouldn’t oughta done
F.B.I. on his tail
Use a gun-go to jail
But Johnny can’t read
Summer is over and he’s gone to seed
(you know that), Johnny can’t read
He never learned nothin’ that he’ll ever need
Well is it teacher’s fault? oh no
Is it mommy’s fault? oh no
Is it the president’s fault? oh no
Well is it Johnny’s fault? ohhhhh nooooo!
Johnny can dance, Johnny can love
Johnny can push and Johnny can shove
Johnny can pinball; Johnny can talk tough
Johnny can get down and Johnny can throw up
Well, recess is over
Recess is over!
Sitcoms, t.&a.
Johnny’s mind is blown away
Cop shows, horror flicks
Johnny’s brain is full of bricks
Rock show, video
Boob tube, rubik’s cube
Game fools, sunday school
Wonka wonka wonka
There’s a new kid in town...

I agree the greater majority of teens in the US are wonderful young people. I think however in large part it is the disintegration of limits; young people in particular need to be taught that there are limits to what behaviour is acceptable. I also think that teen popular culture is very responsible for replacing community – the interaction of older and younger generations – with the idea that very young people should be ‘little adults’ isolated, independent, sophisticated and all-knowing. When in fact people need to learn their own lessons, to mix with their peer group, get outdoors and have FUN.
If you present being a teenager as a time to withdraw, coupled with the ordinary stress of growing up, school work, love, jobs, family etc as well as peer pressure it can be very difficult for those who need to work through their problems to approach the people they need to. I think teen pop culture mistakes independence for isolation…
