This is a rather deep question I have been pondering - if life was a video game, what genre would it be?

I'd go with Simulation. But it may differ from person to person.

i'd say RPG, because you're role playing your own life in a way

Yeah, but I don't think life's "battles" and "random encounters" are turn-based . . .

RPG - because every day, we have to assume a role whether it is in our job or in school or whereever. We have to become someone else...

I voted everything because a copy of reality is just a pigeon-hole.

Strategy. Life is, in my opinion, like chess.
I made an analogy for it.
You're the King. Your dignity is the Queen. The pieces are your friends, of varying importance. The pawns are people who think that they're your friends. Sacrifice them when you need to, but you can always promote them or let one take a fall to preserve your dignity.

Strategy Simulation or RPG seem to be the most obvious. I like some of the other choices though.

It worries me that FPS is getting votes.

EDIT: My life of course is an adventure :D, though I voted for strategy/simulation to be impartial.

Edict overflow!

(probably not too far off, seeing as there're as many humans living now as have ever lived before!)

I think that as this is such an obvious ripoff and waste of money, maybe they'll release the source :)

Pac-Man is a good metaphor for life, think about it: The constant eating, you can't stop moving, must eat the giant pills. And then there are the ghosts. You just know you could make something of your life if it wasn't for those damn ghosts holding you back: making you repeat a year a school, telling you to burn things...
...and in the end, when you die, someone with a rude name gets a higher score than you.

Adventure. You always end up with a ton of crap that you mostly through endless and completely random trying have to combine in ways you'd never have guessed in order for you to continue.

And while there are no game over screens, at times you're going to be mighty tempted to end the game yourself.

If it's an RPG it's a pretty boring one, unless the goal is to overthrow Busch or something - to be honest I can't imagine life outside could be any less fun. I'm hanging back until they let us write client scripts.

To be fair - don't many religious people think this is pretty much a computer game anyway?
