It wouldn't be the craziest thing the US or Israel intelligence services have ever done (see Castro assassination plots with poisonous/explosive cigars or the kidnapping of kindnapping of Modechai Vannunu ). I thought someone on another post though said they were mostly just a bunch of ex BBC employees though. Have you ever heard of the Bush administrations failed plans to create a "Office of Strategic Influence"? IT was basically a plan to creat a global US propaganda network to spread intentionally untrue or misleading stories across the Muslim world to support the US but they were too embarrassed to go through with it and canceled it or so they would have you believe.

It is not that implausible. Obviously Al-Jazeera is not a CIA or Mossad run operation, a five second look at its content will tell you that. But that doesn't mean that the US psyops isn't trying to influence Arab minds via the air waves. The US set up a TV propaganda network in Iraq called "Al-Iraqia" to broadcast pro US news, why wouldn't they do that elsewhere in the Arab world? Do a google search of "Office of Strategic Influence" the US is always up to all kinds of crazy schemes to manipulate world opinion.
