A small test of general knowledge, obviously not targeted mainly to the Canadians themselves. :)

It's a trick question...there IS no Prime Minister...nahhh, dammnit, he's our PM. I wish it was Jack Layton instead. At least it's not Stevie Harper.

And it's not us who can't pronounce 'about', it's Americans who can't pronounce hard 'o' sounds, like the word, 'sorry'.

Sorry!

Jack Layton is an idiot. I wouldn't trust him with my lunch box, he'd sell it to the poor because he'd say I had enough already and then accuse me of murdering homeless people in Toronto for not giving to the Toronto Food Bank......

And I've actually been to Edmonton, Ottawa, and Toronto.

Ottawa is an odd place. They roll up the sidewalks at 8 PM, and there are multiple channels showing curling matches.

Toronto was *oddly* clean in the downtown area. Spotless. Gave me the willies.

And Edmonton is the official location of BF. When I was outside of town, I felt like I was going to fall of the face of the earth. Nothing to hang on to.

At least you could convince Bush that is his name.

Not really fair because... well... kind of live in Canada and volunteered during the election campaign...

But yeah, Paul Martin.

However, you'd be amazed how many people even here in Canada don't know that. Alot of people I've talked to (at my own school) think Jean Chretien is still the prime minister.

Didn't Harper's conservatiec party miss a majority by one seat, or something like that?

Also, is it true that Saskatuen is run by communists?

Harper's conservatives are the official opposition with 99 seats. Martin's Liberals formed the gov't with 134 seats.

Saskachewan is run by the New Democratic Party. No communists by socialists.

You know, I have to say, Paul Martin isn't as bad as I had expected. He's certainly somewhat less than a great man, but then again, what politician is these days? Harper scares me ... he's slick, not a buffoon like so many conservatives. Dangerous man, he. Layton is, well, well-intentioned, but a bit foolish. The NDP should've put Tommy Douglas in the deep freeze. Thaw him out every election.

Saskatchewan run by Communists? The NDP are hardly Communists, in fact, they're hardly even left wing. I know, I live in Manitoba. The thing is that American politics are (and this isn't a value judgement, although I don't really like it) very much to the right of the rest of the developed world. A lot of ideas of the 'looney left' in the US (say, universal health care) are taken for granted by all but the most right-wing people.

The political spectrum is just different. Canadians tend towards the middle, Americans towards the right and certain European countries to the left.

Anyways, now that I've rambled ... I'll sign off.

The former Minister of Finance...Paul "what an asshole" Martin.

He's no 'Great Canadian', just a bean-counter and a bully who forced Crouton from office. He's as Liberal as a Mulroneyite, and his political raison d'etre stems solely from living in his father's shadow. Actually, in many ways, he's perfect as Shrub's opposite number.

Funny thing about Canada's parliament... is....

The balance of power is very close...

301 seats in total

CPC + Bloc = 150
Liberal + NDP = 150

I think that's what it was anyways.... I could be wrong.

But anyways, yeah, the point is it's very close.

'tis a minority government.

I volunteere dfor the CPC campaign... (Harper was the leader of the CPC)

I really thought Harper would have made a great prime minister, and hopefully he wins the next election (although with how liberal Canadians mostly are, it's not looking too hopefuly).

I can't believe people re-elected Martin, what with the whole sponsorship scandal crap going around....

I'm not American. I just heard that some province in Canada has consistently elected a government largely composed of the Canadian communist party. Mainly because of the great improvements in healthcare and education that resulted.

Either a mix-up or right wingers trying to equate the NDP with the commies.

There's two Communist Parties in Canada, the CPC (Communist Party of Canada) and the CPC-ML (Communist Party of Canada - Marxist-Leninist). Neither has formed a government Provincially or Federally, at any time in Confederation.

Damnit I said Chretien! I knew he was PM last year, so I assumed he was this year, too
